I have this on Vinyl - It's amazing off the real deal - The story attached to my Vinyl says the Producer basically locked these boys in the recording room (That was very hot/cramped) and managed to take a couple of Howdie Doodie 50's clean cut type boys who were making Shoo-bop level music prior to this recording. In the span of some hectic hours being forced to just keep playing the same song, it began to morph & This is what was produced. I guess he could sense there was more in the boys, then what they were presenting and thought with a little pressure he could get a more honest sound from them. Nothing ever came of them, I wonder if because they found this experience a bit exhausting or traumatizing. Re-listen to the song knowing that this was the first time these boys ever "Let loose" in their music style, you can hear the unsure/hesitant sounds in their voice as they are coming up with the lyrics on the fly each time & variation. They get more invigorated & loose themselves in the song as it continues. It makes me feel like I can picture a bunch of boys loosing themselves into a trance like state of creativity, heat, and exhaustion of repetition & adrenaline. I can easily picture them looking at each other like "Did you really just say that,?" "Man this is so silly," "What are we doing - this is so much fun though" energy (especially when you catch their laughter in the track) they really come to life at least for me - Its a unique music moment captured in time for sure.

That's my dad playing bass on this (Chas Madonio). They laid down a cover "He Was A Friend Of Mine" for the A side and came up with this in the studio on the fly for the B side, inspired by the fuzz bass from "Think For Yourself" which had just come out.

Its probably 40 - 50 years since I heard or even thought about this song. Barely recognized it while streaming CBC....until I just as it went into "85 percent of them don't give a ###### damn" I spontaneously sang that in my head when it came up....BOOM. Must have had an impression on a 16 year old. I think it was the censored word that impressed me back then. I think it was censored word that did it...unless I remember wrong.....I have it right, its "fucking" yes?

I heard this today for the first time on Sirius Little Steven's Underground Garage. Palmyra Delran manages to dig up good stuff. I'm old and I had never heard this song before. It's quite the catchy number.

For a David Mann artwork of an outlaw biker sitting on a tight-looking panhead chopper (circa 1965). The words, "Know ye this is the kingdom of kicks - bikes, booze, grass, and chicks" written on a brick wall.

Bunker Hill is the proto-everything of rock and roll. It's a shame his career was so short. In a few years, it would be like starting with Little Richard and jumping straight to Slayer. Musically speaking.
