As a kid, I wanted more than anything a toy store shopping spree. If you were a kid who grew up in the late 80s-early 90s, then you know that shopping spree giveaways were a big thing back then, and very popular. I seriously used to make lists of what I would get if I was in one. You know....just in case. lol
Me too lol Now we didn't have toys r us in canada back then. We had one with a purple panda mascott Toy _________ and I remember one year a fake toys r us moved into the old dominion in st laurent shopping center (and they had a glass wall so you could see inside the store from in the mall...and it was TOYS everywhere.... 80's and 90's kids had the best toys...Xanadu was one of these stores, so many action figures...video games...etc etc... Heaven. I did the list thing too, what I'd grab first lol I'll always have this mental image of going on vacation to Virgina and they had a magic kingdom theme type toystore (google has pics if anyone remembers) and there was just - what seemed like - a wall to the ceiling on LJN WWf figures...big john studds for all of the usa almost lol)... I got some Ghostbusters figures and the ghostbuggy and Fangster...it was such good prices my dad bought me a lot. We didn't have that back home...
As an 8 year old kid, I used to watch this show on a nightly basis. Reason being, I used to sit there and literally write down notes in my notebook because I was planning on starting my own identical game show, but for kids and in a toy store.
I always liked this show but could never get into Shop Till You Drop. That was the rebound show because back then...we only got so much channels with cable tv, so if there was nothing else on, I would watch it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but this show went on for a couple of seasons but got cancelled. Was there a reboot of this around the early to mid 2000's? I just have this vague memory of being super excited when this show aired again on PAX T.V.
We can't have any candy in the morning but after eight mint is the last clue Cathy and Neal found 5000 dollars is what they found. Hooray they found the money and the clue
The couple in the bonus round was smart to run to the place where the product would be (i.e. the drinks for Gatorade) and just look for the tag. Too many teams seem to hang around in one spot trying to figure out the clue. What a nice win for them :-)
J Miller Even worse was after Supermarket Sweep was Shop Till You Drop. And man, they were living in the 90s, thats for damn sure! The tucked in shirts, pastel, teal, flourescents. The khakis with the white sneakers. Oh, and those who were stuck in the 80s with the Bon Jovi Groupie Hair, the mullets, and the 80s clothes. Oh my.
I noticed that during the epsodes of Season 2 (late 1990), the $5,000 cash fan was attached to the back of the product. In the next season, the money fan is no longer attached on the back of the product because they added a new rule to the bonus round that the team has to have their hands on the money by the time the time's-up bell rang in order to win the money. I think it happened during the first season.
It actually wasn't that rare. Just had to be wise about your shopping strategy, and hope your opponents spent too much time fishing for bonuses. You know you'll probably only get one cart, so get the health/beauty aids and the smaller housewares, like pots/pans and film.
@@wschmrdrAlso just keep in mind that no matter who you choose as your Partner before the beginning of the Show, communication with your Partner is very important.
Kari2025 Well, for one thing, they didn't have as many bonuses as they did in later episodes (such as the mini-Sweep, the coffee, and the candy). Plus, inflation is another factor.
Not to mention that the carts used for the Fall 1990 season were higher up, shallower, and held much less groceries. Unlike the Winter/Spring 1990 season, when Hughes Markets provided the supermarket contents, and the meat/turkeys were real, this was the first season to utilize realistic, weighted plastic replicas, so the contestants didn't get 'meat juice' on the sweatshirts. Beginning with the Spring 1991 season, they brought back the classic, deep shopping carts, and made the plastic replicas bigger, and more heavier. I could recall that on the first season, only two teams had a total higher than $1,000. Only one team had a total higher than $1K in season two, and three in season three. The all-time record, happened in the final season, when a team who amassed 3:30 (or 4:00 of sweep time), literally snapped up every bonus in sight and amassed a record total of $2,048. Linda Ann Kozlowski, who designed the Sweep outfits was very protective of her sweatshirt/dickey outfits on the show. I heard, from a contestants' interview on the AV Club website, that only the losing teams got to keep their outfits (and consolation gifts), while the winners simply got the cash.
I think teams could do as many of the bonus features as they could, but they would only get credit for one of each type of bonus (one inflatable, one bag of candy, one coffee, etcetera).
Do you have any idea how Neil & Kathy spent the $5K?
April 2024 anyone?
Hey at least someone won the $5000
Hi David
nice
Never waste that much time on the shopping list. Also, team 2 just got too many big bulky items. You can't fit anything around them.
9:34 no one got it but I value it!!!
Barbara do you work outside the house? Lol that question wouldn’t fly these days.
Did this $5000 win mark the debut of the siren?

The totals were low. Even with Barbara’s detergent, diapers and hoses, she only got $204. I wonder why.
Team #2 had a terrible strategy. I'm glad they lost. Also, Gatorade in glass bottles!
that has to be the lowest maingame total that won the $5,000
There had to be some penalties in there or something.
Steve, your dad was a hottie!
Holy inflation
All of,these is making me hungry!
That's the luckiest I've ever seen anyone win the big sweep.
This one was kind of a dumb-off, but good for that couple that won. Those were some hard clues!
I loved this show me and my boys would watch it all the time !!
Also if you went on Supermarket Sweep, who would you choose as your Partner?
The host is the guy who married Janet on Three's Company.
I miss this show!
U can now see it on Buzzr TV.
Jumanji welcome jungle tonight
I woulda kicked ass on this show
Yoooo joooeee

This must be surreal for you to watch, OP.
A year before i was born , i feel old
I always liked this show but could never get into Shop Till You Drop. That was the rebound show because back then...we only got so much channels with cable tv, so if there was nothing else on, I would watch it.
Damn. At 2:03; he just cut her off & did not even pretend to show interest in her. lol.
Tania Jones Ikr? That was rude and awkward.
Tania Jones I noticed that too! It was like “Oh a housewife, NEXT!”
YES! She was like "no, not at...." And he just moved right on his merry little way. You can see she's embarrassed by that

Correct. It came back in the early 2000s till 2003. They had new bonuses including the alphabet game & a jelly bean area.
We can't have any candy in the morning but after eight mint is the last clue Cathy and Neal found 5000 dollars is what they found. Hooray they found the money and the clue
I loved this show
you should do a parents tag and have them talk about the experience :]
The couple in the bonus round was smart to run to the place where the product would be (i.e. the drinks for Gatorade) and just look for the tag. Too many teams seem to hang around in one spot trying to figure out the clue. What a nice win for them :-)
your parents are so dope
"Are you working outside the home?" hahahah NO BITCH I WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK FROM HOME
So, this is the premiere of the $5000 siren in the bonus round.
David Ruprecht's sweaters were the TRUTH! :-D
J Miller lol
J Miller Even worse was after Supermarket Sweep was Shop Till You Drop. And man, they were living in the 90s, thats for damn sure! The tucked in shirts, pastel, teal, flourescents. Yaaaaaaaaaaaasss
The old prop for $5,000 was just a tag with cash.
I noticed that during the epsodes of Season 2 (late 1990), the $5,000 cash fan was attached to the back of the product. ADD flashing graphic.
it was exiting in the end..
wow i didnt think team number 3 would win in the sweep

This is gave Johnny Gilbert talking time.
Look at his nifty sweater
Miss the show
Looks like a Magic Eye poster
$442 was the winning amount? That is incredibly low! Holy shit, these people couldn't shop worth a damn.
Kari2025 Well, for one thing, they didn't have as many bonuses as they did in later episodes (such as the mini-Sweep, the coffee, and the candy). Plus, inflation is another factor.

Woodie B. Every bonus? Probably why they then limited teams to just one bonus
I think teams could do as many of the bonus features as they could, but they would only get credit for one of each type of bonus (one inflatable, one bag of candy, one coffee, etcetera).
Woodie B. You need to get a life
they don't make shows like this anymore
the way this was it felt so peaceful to me
Thank god
i loved this show i watched it everyday
You have very cool parents!
I'll bet whenever your folks go shopping they sing that "Boss Ass Bitch" song to themselves or aloud, maybe?
