Why So Many Scale Patterns?
Why are there so many different scale patterns, and what do I do with them?
This was a question someone asked me recently. Well, the truth is, if you learn to look at your guitar in a certain way, you'll realize that it is not a bunch of different patterns, it's a single, small pattern that repeats over and over.
As we change where that one pattern begins on the guitar neck, we end up not with a new pattern but just looking at that same pattern from a new location.
In this video, I'll take you into a deep dive into how you can start visualizing scales in a much easier way across your guitar.
If you have any questions that I don't answer here feel free to ask in the comments.

Then I taped on my book mark and listened to you and I had my strumming pattern within minutes. Thank you very very much. Your the man!!!

The thing you have to remember is all brats aren’t created equal. Meaning every strum will not have the exact same timing. It kind of swings. The main thing with strumming is you gotta feel it. Listen to Stapleton play this…. The 1st strum of every chord is much different. Not only is it harder but the time value is ever so different. Yo me this is a long way to go about playing this song. My mentor and friend travels with Stapleton to a lot of his shows on steel and his first piece of advice for me was simply this; listen. Stop playing along and listen. Listen to your instrument and hear the nuances. If you can’t hear the nuances you won’t be able to play them. The nuance is what makes each player different. The pick attack is a huge nuance in this song. Listen, listen, listen.

This lesson will help every beginner (like me) level up in several skills, not just the barre chord but in general. An example, it's the simplest of things as well, a small change in mentality and thought process when going from the Em to Bm barre. This kicked me up a notch ... helped me with every other chord progression just by applying a similar mentality. That's just 1 example among a heap of others in learning this simple, heart melting song. HIGHLY recommend this lesson to all! Thanks alot mate.

I don't understand why I do this but every time I get a new guitar I find myself surfing songs I either do or don't know and it turns out the person on the video has nearly identical the guitar I just bought. Did that with a white Strat, then a Gold Top Les Paul, a sunburst Thin Line Tele and now a sunburst 335. It's awsome but it's strange.
