Pinning & preserving a giant flower beetle
Giant flower beetle (M. torquata immaculicolis) this is a large male, much bigger than their female counterparts and easily distinguished by that very spicy horn. They have a gorgeous velvet covering on their shell, which I try to avoid touching as it's easy to ruin with over handling.
I raise these beetles myself, currently I have shelves with tubs of grubs, all different species and stages. The first of this batch of giant flower beetles should be adults this summer. I love them, and can't wait to have to rearrange the entire bug room to accommodate them.

Просмотров 1 тыс.4 месяца назад
A preservation tutorial for the giant katydid, which is also suitable for large crickets and grasshoppers, locusts and similar insects. I explain the tools and techniques to clean the insect, before stuffing and pinning it out. I have been preserving insects for over six years, usually to gild in 24ct gold leaf for contemporary art pieces. This is one of my home raised insects which died a natu...
Found one on my uncles porch. Do I have to do some kind of treatment or I can just let it dry in place?

Okay, so a lot of you don't understand, the butterflies probably died, so she didn't want them to just rip, on the ground, not showing their beauty! She took them home and did this, so their wings were straight! Hope you understand. You can like the comment, so everyone sees this. ❤
What bug is this it's so pretty!!
Even roaches are smarter than those people saying (Animal abuse!)

The Death’s-Head Hawk Moth has already died peacefully before they pinned the moth. This isn’t abuse!

Beautiful work! Pinning is truly an art form!
For the dummies that think this is animal abuse, the moth is already dead.

The moth died of natural causes and the person wanted to honor it's beauty.

Silence of the lambs moth. Awesome 💯
I thought these were called Stag Beetles?
Stag and rhinoceros beetles are two different beetle sorts actually :D Stag beetles have 2 horns on the head while rhinoceros beetles have 1 horn on the head and another on the thorax (some rhincerous beetles have more than 2). Hope this helps :3

Entomologist here if your about to say torture or animal abuse it’s not these insects are bought from insect farms on which they live a natural life and when they die to natural causes they are shipped around the world to be preserved in their glory

WE NEED TO STOP KIDS FROM THINKING PINNING DEAD INSECTS ARE ANIMAL ABUSE ITS DONE FOR LEARNING ABOUT THE ANIMAL
Poor butterflys😢😢

Don't do this to them , let them fly 😢
These are dead, it's for the sake of conservation
This is cool but (no offence) disturbing 😅

It's texidermy, a hobby 😊
How come you didn’t turn it into a cyborg?
The main pin should be placed through the right side of the thorax btw..
she didnt pin through the bee :)
So… this the way of do it, but how it looks the job done ?
I recommend using a relaxing chamber over this method. You can see my work on my IG or website

Why do you rehydrate it? I’m curious because I always thought the drier the better because of bacteria?
Rehydration is needed to set the insect in a display position, after pinning it put I leave it to dry for 1-2 weeks, then unpin when its nice and dry. That way it will hold the new position
What was the needle for?
