My passion is helping students find their unique visual voice.
In addition to making my own art, I love creating lesson content focused on abstract painting, mixed media painting, and printmaking techniques with step-by step instructions. In other lessons, I reference skills associated with various artists and the creative process.

Blot Printing Basics
Просмотров 6 тыс.16 часов назад
Demonstration of Blot Printing using liquid black paint in a squeeze bottle with a fine tip. I began by outlining simple oval forms on a white sheet of paper with liquid paint and blotting the paint with tracing paper to create a compositional structure. Next, I drew and blotted bottle shapes on top of a Gelli print. I painted the surrounding negative space with blue paint to create a new compo...

Open Acrylic Transfer Painting
Просмотров 43321 день назад
Demonstration of using a printmaking brayer to roll out a thin layer of Van Dyke Brown Open Acrylic (slow drying) onto a sheet of tracing paper. I used this paper to transfer random shapes and lines to a sheet of paper. I applied water with a damp brush to activate and darken areas of the Open Acrylic. Transfer paper is like carbon paper with the added benefit of paint manipulation. Transfer pa...
Sculptural Paint with Heavy Matte Gel
Просмотров 21028 дней назад
Demonstration of increasing the volume of paint using Heavy Matte Gel. I began by mixing paint into Heavy Matte Gel and testing its sculptural and dimensional applications on a piece of paper. I used a variety of palette knives, a brush, and some netting to create texture. Next, I applied thick layers of paint to a Gelli print/ painting created previously to create a sculptural painting.
Ink and Stick Study
Просмотров 74Месяц назад
Demonstration of creating a continuous line drawing using ink and stick. Line was continuous until I had to dip the stick in ink and pick up my line where I left off. A stick is a wonderful drawing tool that creates a unique line quality and adds character to your drawing. Variables include the amount of ink, pressure, and the angle at which your stick is held.
Line Study with Ink and Brush
Просмотров 110Месяц назад
Demonstration of exploring India Ink and brush using a continuous line. I did lift my brush once to reload ink, but I continued my line where I left off. The purpose of this exercise is to explore the variety of lines that can be made with ink and brush. Variables include amount of ink, pressure, and the angle at which the brush is held.
Adding Structural Layers of Paint
Просмотров 206Месяц назад
Demonstration of adding structural layers of thick impasto paint to a small study. I used several palette knives and a flat brush to demonstrate how to add thick impasto layers of paint. I intentionally left the original turquoise wash layer showing for contrast. Impasto applications of paint have a low level sculptural effect.
Painting with Texture and Dimension
Просмотров 126Месяц назад
Demonstration of transforming a brayer painting with painted tape, drywall tape, stickers, and thicker impasto and dry brush applications of paint. My intention was to transform the color palette of the painting while still allowing the original pink underpainting to show through.
Abstract Color Study with the Brayer
Просмотров 3072 месяца назад
Demonstration of using a printmaking brayer to roll out a neutral palette of colors (Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, and Naples Yellow) on a fluorescent turquoise background. My intention was to allow the turquoise underpainting to show through in areas to interact with the neutral colors rolled on top. I also used a small palette knife to apply smaller blobs of paint and scrape away areas of paint (...
Layers with the Brayer and masking tape

Demonstration of using a printmaking brayer to build up layers of blue paint on a fluorescent orange background. My intention was to allow areas of the orange underpainting to show through to interact with the lighter shades of Light Phthalo Blue, Light Phthalo Green, and a neutral Titanium Buff. I also incorporated charcoal pencil lines, masking tape, and colored stickers. Some masking tape wa...
Quick Color Studies
Просмотров 2032 месяца назад
Demonstration of doing quick color studies on three different colored backgrounds (cadmium yellow, fluorescent pink, and fluorescent blue). I explored making small marks of cool, warm, and neutral colors on all three backgrounds. I allowed the background wash colors to show through and interact with colors applied. A great way to explore and understand color interaction with immediate results.
Circles and Ellipses
Просмотров 1242 месяца назад
A short drawing demonstration of practicing drawing circles and ellipses with the point and flat side of a pencil in a fluid manner. This warmup will be helpful in laying out foundational forms in a drawing.

I’ll be trying emoodles, looks fun. The coloured ones appealed more than the black one, that seemed angry to me.
@@JinnyCJ they are different every time which is why I love them.
@@lauradenny update. I did one in purple, my favourite colour, loops and circles and it was incredibly soothing. I did another in straight, angular lines and found it less peaceful. I became anxious about filling the space, which was interesting. I’m now emoodling every morning, loops and circles, and it’s a great, peaceful start to the day. Thank you for the lesson.
