Cash Family Farm

I live in Northern California on 16 acres of land bordered by a lovely creek that runs along the length of the property. I live on the property with my husband and our two children, a son who is 18 and a daughter who is 28. Our daughter is married and lives on the property with her husband and 3 children in a somewhat tiny house.
My daughter and I together grow our vegetable plot and we each have our own flower borders around our house. We together take care of our farm of animals which consist of horses, goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and soon to be pigs and a couple of cows.
We long to be as self sufficient as possible and towards that goal we grow 50% of our produce and only about 25% of our meat. As time goes on we hope to provide for about 80% of our food needs here on the farm.
We hope you enjoy our videos as we continue our progress towards becoming as self sufficient and self reliant as possible.

My daughter and I built a new rabbit barn. The old one was small only 8X16 with a 6' ceiling height. It was dark and hard to move around in with all the cages in place. Our new barn is bright and airy. Easy to clean and we have room to move around.

A video on how I build my rabbit cages using wire closet shelving. A 6' long by 32" wide cage uses the following: 2) 6' X 16" Close Mesh shelves 6) 6'X 16" standard Linen shelves, 1 hog ring pliers, and 1 box of hog or shout rings. Yeah this is Jane from Pennsylvania I have 30 gardens at memorial Park I've been doing it for about 18 years now and I love panties my favorite now is the Ito i t o h peony it is the best between the tree peony and the regular peony it's a mixture it just so pretty it gets more flowers on it than a tree pee and he does and it just after a few years it's just gorgeous so if you want to try that it's beautiful you'll never go back okay bye

You installed the bottom upside-down. The heavier metal supports need to be under the lighter metal. They will eventually brake with this configuration.

I’m back. THANK YOU. We will make these cages tomorrow. We have both the linen (wider gaps) and the close-mesh shelving. Question: Will the “poop” of a larger rabbit fall through the smaller close-mesh openings? (Texas A&M rabbits and NZs). I would appreciate your help because I’m torn about putting the close-mesh on the bottom, but realize the babies (when with Mom) will be safer with close-mesh on the flooring.
You’re a good teacher and easy to follow. THANK YOU. I’ve watched quite a few of these shelving videos over the last few years, but only 2 or 3 times have the shopping items been easy to make note of without re-watching a video a half dozen times to listen closely. I drive a considerable distance tomorrow to purchase the shelving. Would it work just as well if I purchase the 6-foot lengths and get the Closed-mesh panels and the linen panels, but get them in the 20-inch high size instead of 16? Will all of this still work just as well? I’m thinking we want our rabbit hutches / cages taller??? Also, my shopping list includes buying squares of floor tile. A second question: To prevent raccoons from lifting our lids, what latch type would you recommend as the quickest / easiest? I will appreciate your insights and tips. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Thank you for your kind compliment. Yes taller will definitely work just fine. As far as something to keep it closed from the raccoons the easiest I can think of would be a short bungee cord. There is a spring type closure and I cannot think of the name at the moment you would attach to the lid permanently and it would stretch down and attach to the side when you close it. But really a bungee is the easiest I think. Someone else may have a better idea.
Do you prune your tree peonies? And how old are these?
I don't trim them. They are about 15 years old but I can resist dividing them so they are not as big as they could be.
@@cashfamilyfarm9637 do you divide Kao? And is it very leggy? The branches look very thin and long, I'd this the style of the plant? Would you happen to have any more videos?
@@emnoi6216 I have divided them all and yes, they are very thin and leggy, I believe due to my interference. I am going to leave them all alone now that they have been planted into their permanent homes. Before when I would dig them up to move them, they all looked easy to divide, almost as if they were already two plants. I don't need to move them now, so they can just get big and hopefully have thicker stems.

Hi Ruth, my aunt grew them in Burlingame and so I should think you could also. They do not need cold Temps like the herbaceous peonies do.

I bought some herbaceous peonies from Costco couple months ago when they were in buds. They bloomed so well. Will see how they do next year. Does your family sell tree peonies? Thank you.
@@ruthwolf7697 we do not sell peonies, just buy for our pleasure. When my aunt moved from Burlingame to Northern CA, she brought her tree peonies with her and I inherited them when my husband and I purchased her property where we live now.

How are these holding up?
They are holding up great except for the rubber type coating that is on them. That got chewed off pretty quick and the wire now is rusty looking, but the cages are sturdy and I am still loving them.

Nice set up. I'm planning to build a rabbit enclosure possibly like this for Angoras and maybe meat rabbits eventually. But I'm planning to keep it small. (like most bunny owners say lol).

Wow! I love these. I have seen a couple other peoples videos on these types of cages but you have explained it as you make them perfectly. Thank you. I think I can do this myself without my husband too now! I would love to see more videos from you on your rabbits. I also have some New Zealands, Flemish Giant, Lionheads and Jersey Woolys. Great cages and I think being an older person, but I think I can make these. And so true when your talking to people, all the animals have to have their input. That was great,
I love the cages and I agree that store bought cages are too small, but if I could make a sugestion, can you make your cages taller? It is really good for rabbits to be able to stand on their back legs, it will mess there spine up after long periods on not being able to stand.
Interesting thought. Thank you for the suggestions. I have thought about having them taller so they have room to jump on top of their nest boxes and maybe have a shelf or almost 2and story.

I think it is called Pink Lemonade. I have 16 acres with flower beds dotted all over. I hope to get them all weeded out soon so that I can do a video for each area of my gardens.

How long does a individual peony bloom? Is it just one time, or is it continuous ?
Each bloom lasts for several days and a tree peony can bloom for about 1 week if it has more than one bloom on it. I have a red tree peony that bloomed for 8 days this year. It has 13 blooms that slowly opened one at a time till they were all open.
Just planted 10 itoh peoney' s bare root and they are already popping up after one week after planting. Your peoney collection is wonderful , Thank You for the tour.

I do sell and ship birds but it incredibly expensive. Usually about $90 for box and shipping plus the price of the bird. I recommend going to The Araucana Club of America Facebook page and seeing if there is a breeder close to you. I am in Northern California.

I have a chick that I think may be rumpless. It is in with Ameraucana chicks I bought but did not appear to have a tail. The feathers have started to come in and instead of standing up like a normal tail they are turned down covering the vent area. Is that what a rumpless baby looks like? I've had chickens most of my life but never seen a rumpless chick only adults.
With tailed chicks their but has a bump that the tail grows from. A rumpled chicks but is flat across or concave a little. You almost have to feel the backside of a tailed chick versus a rumpled chick to understand. But it sounds like you may have a rumpless chick based on your description of the feathers.
