Future Dog Guide Toppy… Life of a Service Puppy in Training Montage
I got the news today! Toppy will be headed to Dog Guide University on May 23!!! She is ready to be THE CUTEST and THE BEST labradoodle on campus. (FYI she’s the only lab/poodle mix in the program so the competition isn’t high😆). Starting out in the Diabetic Alert Program… we’ll see how it goes! 🐕🦺

What purpose would the "paw" command serve?
You are doing an amazing work.
This is great!!
Make sure you don't go too fast in service dog training, and don't train too much. I've heard a lot of stories about dogs loving to train, doing so well at such a young age, doing great in public access, but then one day they completely shut down because they became burnt out. Then they have to wash out and they don't enjoy training anymore.
How old is she? I just got my male lab, and trying to teach him, but can't get his focus consistently.
So paw means anything but touch me?
How does she not get full and loose interest though?
She's a Labrador
@@AudioFromJapanapparently labradors don’t actually have the thing in their stomach to tell them they’re full. Idk if that’s true but it’s all bout food drive. Good drive is different for every dog
Labs have great temperaments if bred correctly. They love food which is why a lot of them are obese. They love training and they have been working with humans for a long time. They are really great dogs! They have smelly farts though..
This is just a wonderful video for inspiring good early training! It’s remarkable how much can be achieved in a short time with a young pup! Thank you for sharing this-I’ve shared it with family who have a new labrador pup. They have already earned their young pup’s Trick Dog Novice title! Your video shows how much further beyond tricks one can take the training to help create a wonderfully well-behaved dog that’s welcome anywhere dogs are allowed. Thanks!!!
Glad you enjoyed! And wishing them the absolute best with their pup… sounds like they’re off to a great start already!
So adorable 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Little. Baby dog ❤❤❤❤❤❤ XX 😘 tanya

Amazing job !!🐾♥️🐕🦺♥️🐾
Thank you for the visual it definitely helps!
Help please. Does anyone know of any good lab breeders in the UK who have bred previously successful assistance dogs? Hip scoring, genetic tests etc?
Google it? Facebook?
On assistance dogs uk’s website ( I think it’s them i cant remember) there’s a link to a different website that has breeders that you can contact and view in the uk
@@Local_gremlin2009 Thank you very much
Is the vest supposed to say future guide dog? Not dog guide?
No that program out of canada calls their assistance dogs Dog Guides and while they do train guide dogs, they also produce hearing, seizure assist, autism and mobility dogs
Excellent!
Smart and beautiful dog!
So cute
There's nothing like labrador
I’m fostering a yellow lab now and she’s a real sweetie! Not as smart as the shepradork though :)
Thank you so much for your help!
Anytime :)
So cool! Looks like you're both having fun. I have a four month old pup. I've been teaching the usual. I'm interested in learning to do freestyle, but don't know where to start. Did you use a clicker?
It’s definitely a blast! With Bandit I used the marker word “yes” instead of a clicker, but a clicker is definitely a great option. I’d start by focusing on basic obedience and socialization before moving onto dances and tricks. You need your puppy to be able to focus on you under distractions and in different environments. This is the most important thing. If you are already doing this, I’d work on building your dog’s food and toy drive. From there you can work on fancy heeling and teaching tricks. Lure your dog with food or a toy to do what you want them to do, mark with a yes or a click, and reward your dog. Once your dog knows how to follow the lure you can add a cue word and get rid of the lure. Once your dog knows the tricks and heeling you can start asking him/her to do more than one task in a row, building towards a routine. For this dance with Bandit, I started by teaching the last trick and used back chaining to add more tricks on.
Very nice!
Thank you! :)
good girl
That’s for sure!
Go Katie! Awesome!😄❤
Thanks :)
Amazing
The dedication alone is astounding!
Thanks :)
Totally fantastic. I have an Australian shepherd cross puppy, and I'm very motivated to keep her mentally stimulated like this. Did you teach each move individually with positive reinforcement? Do you have any tips?
So much fun and definitely a great way to meet mental and physical needs! I taught all of the tricks individually with positive reinforcement first. Then I backchained tricks together to make the routine. (In backchaining you start by teaching the last trick and then the second last and so on). You might find it helpful to back chain several mini dances and then chain them into one. If your dog is still a puppy I’d start by building up her food/toy drive and teaching her some tricks (just make sure not to teach any jumping ones until she’s done growing so her joints aren’t negatively effected). Make training fun and always end on a good note keeping her wanting more.
@@katie_and_the_bandit5681 Katie, I love this video! Fantastic. Do you always backchain this type of routine? Do you feel it's helpful to backchain, rather than forward chain?
@@kirsteenniven5111 Thanks and I definitely find back chaining a very effective approach for this type of thing. It is a great way to break a complex set of tasks into small increments so you can help your dog build on small successes. Working backwards instead of forwards helps keep the dogs eager and motivated to perform as they know once they reach the last trick they get their reward (and they also know when that last trick is coming). One thing you have to be careful with back chaining is not rewarding sloppy tricks in attempt to reach the end faster. I find with Bandit backchaining vs forward chaining definitely gets us more speed and helps her remember the order better.
@@katie_and_the_bandit5681 Thanks for the reply, Katie. I use backchaining for a lot of basic training but I've never had the confidence to try a trick routine, because my own memory is so bad! LOL. You've inspired me to have a shot! It'll maybe improve my memory. You and your lovely dog are a wonderful team.
@@kirsteenniven5111 Anytime! Thanks and happy training!
Wow! Impressive!
