Author John Yoder introduces his book about ancestor Christian Nisly entitled "Fragments of a Life"

James Schwarzlose, former Eden Seminary student, describes the "essence" of a young Walt Brueggemann
Просмотров 1133 месяца назад
This moving essay by one who knows personal suffering but has found hope in his Christian faith tradition is profoundly moving. His ability to describe the essence of Professor Walt Brueggemann, without remembering a lot of the content, reveals a deep sensitivity. His reflections also reveal how little Walt (now Walter to many of us) has changed over the years.

I am delighted to interview my editor from Fortress Press about his new book on writing. No one has done more to call out my inner voice as a writer. He will be part of a free webinar this week, February 7 with well-known reporter Mark Wingfield. An excerpt from the book is below. This book seeks to awaken the inner poet. Whether it can remains to be seen. The odds certainly stacked against it,...

I am witness to your journey told in stories on the trail, experienced together along the trail, and shared again as the trail continues to lead me with you as my witness. The bond that walking the trail has opened for healing and keen witness to others wounds, attention to our own wounds, and healing within a community of sharing is dynamic in the written record of your epoc. The white blazes of your AT experience invites my own memories, and the blue blaze side trails enhance the tales told on the trail. I witnessed your journey blessed by crow feathers on the path as you witnessed the pace of my journey while the thunder was laughing. Thank you for bringing this epoc poem to life on the printed page for others to find a voice for healing on their passage through life changing wounds and daily healing events

LOL not the most ethical place to send your children, they at heart have the right intentions but the personality and output from the Chiefs when I was there were not good in any way, they get irritated easily, snap on people and I promise if you tried to leave they would most certainly tackle you to the ground, my mother took me out of this place when they had wanted to keep me longer, it was mental anguish.

Thanks for the interview with a friend I've not seen in decades. Jim mentioned City Hospital - I remember several of us squeezing into Jims VW to go to our fieldwork there. It brought back happy memories of Walt. I was but one of his students, but he always remembers my name on those rare occasions that we see one-another.

So good to stir up memories, like riding to City Hospital in Jim's VW for our fieldwork. Also to recall the impact that Walt has made on son many of us. I was but one of his students, but he calls me by name whenever I'm in his presence. I've ordered your book!

Interesting. Is Christian Nationalism an outgrowth of American Jesus? Perhaps starting with WW I and the idea of "God is on our side." As a Roman Catholic I don't see Christian Nationalism at anywhere near the level I see it among Evangelicals, as with most Catholics the threat is more morality and traditionalism than a threat from the secular or other non-Christian disciplines. I think this is because we have had a culture of ecumenism and reviewing our relationship with Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, etc believers.

There seems to be repeating here....not sure why....words: institutional - seems to be - movement - renewal of pietism? Do not wish to be judgmental so will not go on critiquing this conversation. My fellowship in church has been where I was carried in 95 yrs ago...oldest church in Pequea Valley (PA) affiliated wit Alliance of Mennonite Evangelical Churches (AMEC). Listening to this conversation would raise a simple question: Is Jesus in any way a part of the thinking here? One might wonder if the Reverend Dr. Holland would ever be blessed by singing: "Jesus loves me this I know...for the Bible tells me so." Not meaning to be judgmental....so, good night.
