In communities across the province, Alberta’s health-care professionals are working tirelessly to keep people alive in the face of the crisis.
Tragically, as a result of the government’s narrow focus on a privately-delivered abstinence-only model, people are dying unnecessarily. This is despite HSAA members having evidence-based solutions for keeping people alive and finding a path to recovery.
In 2023, 2069 Albertans died by overdose. Last year was officially the deadliest year from overdoses on record. It means that six Albertans died from drug poisoning every day on average in 2023.
It's time to treat addictions care for what it is, health care.
