He just doesn’t like puzzles. That simple or he has the smallest brain in existence or is a toddler and bought the game with mom or dad money and he died all of them like the first two suck I get it, but the final two are a great game.

House of ashes easily the best. I could not stand the endings of man of Medan or little hope, cause it was all just fake. Makes me feel like so many of the choices didn't even matter. But house of ashes and devil in me at least had real dangers and had more likeable characters, and also Jason and Salim were the best duo I've ever seen. Their whole story line was top notch

Ok, but I gotta say, if you hate all of them, why is House of Ashes overrated? Here’s my opinion on season 1 stories: Man of Medan: cool deaths, scary, interesting choices, and nice setting, but I think it should’ve been longer, made it a bit more obvious that it was just a hallucination, and didn’t explain the whole heart attack thing at the start, no one even died from a heart attack in the story (except one but it still wasn’t explained). Little Hope: first paranormal story in the series, scary, cool monsters, decent characters, had an ok ending, but the characters kept on getting the same death animation, and there wasn’t enough death, and the 2 main characters only died once in the entire story, and this setting was never mentioned in any future stories (so far). House of Ashes: cool setting, great characters, iconic characters (Jason and Salim), gruesome death scenes, funny references, and scary monsters, and gave you a second chance at some points when you failed a QTE, but there was not that much lore behind the Vampires, had side characters that didn’t really make a difference, and you couldn’t even save some of those characters cause they died anyways (Rip Merwin). Devil in me: interesting characters, cool villain, new mechanics, brutal deaths, and decent ending, but the decisions were basically “you chose to go up, and this character dies and there’s no way to save them” I’m saying that the choices were too basic and not obvious, an average of two characters (that I’ve seen) can survive, and the choices on how to keep both characters alive is not even obvious, you just gotta pick the better option (like who was the screwdriver. But the worst part in my opinion, is that all of the premonitions were too short and obscure to even know what’s going on. And you can’t understand what to even do which is annoying.

Man of Medan I didn’t particularly like because the characters at certain points felt too wooden or too obnoxious. But otherwise, I feel the horror would’ve worked better had the game not spell out to you there not being any supernatural element to the ghosts on the ship. Little Hope I really didn’t like. The red hare of the story, that being all that stuff about the Salem Witch Trials, was so much more interesting and better than the plot twist of all of this being in the main character’s head. Plus the writing at times made me ask myself “who talks like this”. Finally Devil in Me, definitely better than the last two. But, still not what I would define as great. One section I recall that especially worked was when you were Erin and walking through dark hall ways that kept changing. All the while you were following the sounds of a child crying and as you down the hallways you became all the more isolated, everything about that section in terms of horror, for that really worked. And none of the characters I recall being obnoxious, but again they all had voice actors that sounded so disinterested in what they were saying in my opinion, plus I didn’t really like any of them in general. Another problem I have with these games is how they all take place in modern day. I hate this because horror only works if you’re isolated. So every modern movie or game with horror elements in it has to explain how you’re isolated, be it having no cell service or losing your phone altogether, it just doesn’t work and is getting annoying. Finally, the killer turning out to be the special investigator who was trying to track down that serial killer I also didn’t like. We know nothing about him, we never really got to see him or see what he’s all about. Making him feel so detached from the overarching story. Which makes for bad writing and an otherwise uninteresting and non-memorable antagonist. The HH Holmes stuff was more interesting and that was only in the beginning of the story which again highlights why I really dislike these games as the red haring of the narrative is more interesting than the actual narrative. Until Dawn had obnoxious characters, but most of them became more endearing towards the end of the story. And the story itself had genuine horror that really got to me. And the setting explained it all for why the characters couldn’t get any cell service, they didn’t need to blatantly come out and say it. And the supernatural elements of the story really made it all the more horrifying to me. The wendigo added to story and didn’t feel forced. The Quarry tried something similar, but again, the characters were not all that great and the werewolves were literally just lamer versions of the wendigo. Down to the models. I don’t know, I’m sure Dark Pictures Anthology can make a good game, they’ve done it before, but I think they need a better director at the helm or something. Hopefully their new horror game taking place in space will be their turning point.
