I always loved how the Diablo theme was indicative of a locomotive that's going faster and also cannot stop. It's so manic. You can even hear the demonic [VOICE] during the many subtle musical cues, particularly the whistling. And rightfully so it plays for the first time during the pursuit against the first superboss, Kyoji. The theme of hopelessness is further hammered down by the main score and the electric guitar getting louder and more disjointed suggesting the Diablo drug user is fighting its effects and trying to gain back their humanity, although futile. You know Kyoji was truly doomed. And when this plays again during the battle with the Diablo drivers it's no longer a just race, it's a fight to save your life.
