Quick Update: Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank auctioned off. I mostly talked about Silicon Valley so a quick recap. In the short 16 days from FDIC taking over SVB until the bank was acquired by First Citizens a whopping further $64 billion in deposits ran off (only $56 billion in deposits remained). So from year end deposit balance of $173 billion that represents a 68% deposit run off which is hard to digest. First Citizens bid on $72 billion in loans (with loss share protection) and $56 billion in deposits with a NEGATIVE net asset bid of $16.5 billion and won. So the FDIC delivered the remnants of SVB which already had $16 billion in equity built in (protected loans minus the deposits) PLUS gave them another $16.5 billion in cash to essentially balance the balance sheet. Essentially the FDIC injected free capital in to the new combined entity. Remarkable that this was the best bid received! It is the reason First Citizens stock price shot up an incredible 57% since announcing the deal. Just simple math. Great for First Citizens. I lost an auction to First Citizens back in 2011. They know the loss share system very well and are savvy bidders. With "the winnings" I hope there is a reinvestment into the program to keep key talent and clients. SVB was key in the growth of the US tech industry powerhouse. We don't want to lose that expertise. If First Citizens plays their cards right there is a strong possibility that many of those deposits and clients return. Thanks for watching.

Correction, Silicon Valley Bank had a market cap of $40 billion year end 2021; not Signature Bank. Signature's market cap end of 2021 was $20 billion. Thanks for watching.
