Being a musician is tough. I usually play about 60 gigs a year doing bars and weddings and whatnot for $175-$500 a show, and then go on a tour or two with my tribute act doing about 40 shows a year for $500-$1000 a show…. The funny part is my bandmates always complain that they’re not getting paid enough, but the reality is compared to most sidemen they are making great money. …Still it isn’t enough due to cost of living out here on the west coast, so I also work full time as a high school English teacher. It’s a lot, and as I get older it’s not getting easier.

Very interesting video! I would like to make an income as a drummer. I'm playing 4-6 times a month on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings at the church I'm a member of. It isn't a paying gig but I do love making music with other musicians.

I’m surprised that backline companies are already stocking the PB12!

Sam, have you ever had a problem (like I repeatedly had Summer '22 and Summer 23 with DIre Straits Legacy) of getting a Montage provided with the wrong OS, and it not being able to load your .X7A (all files) Backup from your USB stick? There were a few times when I tried to do the firmware update to the rental unit so that the .X7A patch would load, but that rarely worked. Maybe the USB stick too big? Any ideas? Thanks for another great video, best of luck. I'm gonna check out the PolyBrute thanks to you. (another keyboard!?? oh no!)

This has to be the best Poly12 demo I've seen. Most people just play the thing the same way they play every other synth... you really squeezed the living snot out of it, showing off its versatility and depth in an incredibly musical way. I was so close to pawning my car to get this right now.

I usually watch RUclips channels where I can learn something new. Music is my hobby, I'm a software engineer. So if your channel only had gear reviews I would probably not watch it. Your touring / travel content was interesting to watch. Also I didn't know how musicians make moneys and how much they make, so that video was also interesting. I would watch videos about AI or block chain or non-music topics if it is interesting to me. Diverse content could bring more viewers.

Favor: When you have a chance can you list your gear? Wow. So neat.

That's a really cool walk-through and set up using the Montage as your midi brain. But, none of them sounded really good for some reason, even in the live shots for some reason. ....For some reason. Playing live and hitting the modulation pitch Bend on the P6 in that one shot, you walked all over the other notes and it was terrible.🤐

I wish your video had some footage from the airport / hotel, some cityscapes, etc. Similar to your videos about Brazil or Saudi Arabia trips. For me it would be more interesting to watch.

This is the video that young musicians need to see, but I'd offer a disclaimer - there are a LOT of full time musicians who don't make anywhere near $50k per year. A real lot. If you go this route, don't assume you'll make that kind of money, unless you can kill it on your instrument and you're fun to be around and everyone likes you.

Few weeks to my 30's , This video just hits so close to home, I'm so grateful to hear this. Started playing music officially at the age of 8. Playing Instruments from blues to metal and everything in between , to full time producing and being a DJ that just couldn't commit to one specific sub genres of electronic music , or any genre for that matter, I can't express how much I needed to hear this. As in recent years, I realized that this music dream (that I convinced myself was Imminent for years under many alias, forms & mediums) was just not going to happen trying to fit a preexisting mould or trying to please contradicting labels & crowds. SO, then Covid happened, while inflation's exploded and so many friend fell around me one after the other, I said fuck that, I'm trying one last ''thing'' and that thing was increasingly worrying as it came under the form of a very expensive midi guitar pickup , MPE controllers and then I switched to Bitwig overnight for it's live capabilities. everything around me was crumbling, but there's this thing in my guts that kept telling me to do whatever In my power to make this project a reality. That ''dream band'' project Is what Pulsar Hunters aims to be and that involve everything that defined us the most (me and friends/ band-mate) over the entirety of our evolution, without exceptions, without rules, So the goal is a fully dynamic hybrid DJ/Band thing that aim to include organics instruments, analog synths / loop machine, Djiing , visuals , story telling and satir. Djentechno ? It wants to be blues but with Zenonesque sound design, and even dub/fusion Psychedelic whatever. one thing's for sure.. it has METAL !! And this project absolutely exist in my reality. I opened this channel just now so that I can salute you and everybody and to remind me to just fucking go for it.

The velocity triggering different samples is very powerful and you could do a lot of cool things. Maybe change the vowel based on the velocity or have a switch or pedal to change the vowel or timbre and velocity to change the dynamics of the sample

Thanks great setup. I was wondering do you have power conditioners or have you every had a voltage spike that turned off the keyboards for a second leaving you to set up the sounds again?

So happy to see the Mellotron there with the rest of the rig!!! Great choice, it will give you a distinctive sound, not all keyboard players are encouraged to use the Mellotron.

The line in the segment on if you had to choose just 1 board made it sound like it depends where you are in terms of what is available. 2. I noticed another keyboard player to your left. Yo! Thank you so much for allowing us into your setup methodology. I love your honesty and energy. I’ve got a few keys that I am trying to learn, not quite as advanced as yours. I need to put my MODX 6 back in my setup to try that MIDI tempo. Give Roland Fantom, or Fantom 07,8 a honest look, when you can. I like the richness of Roland Zen Core over Yamaha MODX engines. The Waldorf Iridium, and HydraSynth have really powerful engines and presets as well. I’ve got the PolyBrute 6 and really love it, but the ribbon on the HydraSynth is way more responsive, and creative than the PolyBrute 6. I haven’t tried the PolyBrute 12 yet, and won’t be able to add it to my setup for a few years. Thanks again for being so honest and real!
