REVELATION chapter 17 verses 1 to 6 “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and those who dwell on the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication. Then he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold, precious stones, and pearls, and had a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of fornication. and on her forehead was written a symbolic name: Babylon the great, the mother of harlots and of the abominations of the earth. And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I was amazed with great admiration.” .. We can only understand the prophecies of the Apocalypse when we know the meaning of the figures described. Let's study each of the figures in chapter 17. Many waters means peoples, multitudes of people. Beast: This figure is very easy to understand. We know that the beast will mark human beings on the hand and forehead. Since only governments have the power to do this, we conclude that the beast represents the political system of the entire world. Names of blasphemies: Blasphemy in the dictionary: 1. Impious or insulting saying against what is considered sacred. 2. Indecent remark made against a very respectable person. Scarlet or purple color: (Latin purpura 1. Red color to be removed to purple. 2. Upholstery or fabric dyed with the color of purple. 3. Royal garments (which were formerly purple). Babylon: 1. [Figurative] Debauchery. 2. Confusion. 3. Labyrinth. 4. Very large building or house. Now that we know the meaning of the most important symbols in this text, it is easier to comment on their meanings and thus be able to uncover who the “prostitute woman” is, who is the main figure in this text. The text itself reveals something monstrous and satanic, which killed millions of human beings throughout history. A prostitute woman: she drinks wine and offers it to “all the Kings” of the Earth. She is known by “all peoples” and everyone has been involved with her in some way, and her clothes are splattered with blood innocent. The woman sits on the beast. Thus, we understand that when she sits on the beast, both form one body. The beast does not depend on the woman to walk, but the woman depends on the beast to move, horse and rider, the rider can drive the horse. In the past, Babylon was a great empire that ruled the world of its time. The text calls the woman: “the great city that reigns over the kings of the earth.” The word reign means: v. intr. 1. To be king. 2. To govern; to dominate. 3. To be in force. We know that every government can only govern under a constitution, which is a set of “LAWS”. The word “law” means: (Latin lex, legis) s. f. 1. Precept or rule established by law. 2. Norm, obligation. 3. “Religion.” Source of all words: Priberam Portuguese Language Dictionary: Now it is clear as day. The prostitute woman is actually “RELIGION”. The woman and the beast have several blasphemous names, it is something big and spread throughout the Earth. How many names of religions do we have today? Religions fight and speak ill of each other, therefore one blasphemy against the other, that is why they are blasphemous names. Governments, like religions, always speak ill of each other, when they do not end in wars. In this text, the woman is symbolizing the entire religious system of the world and of all times, up to this day and including the evangelical religious system in which I was born. “Her garment is dipped in blood.”: Nothing in this world has killed more than religion. Politics and religion are inseparable partners. Religion depends on the beast (politics) to reign. Both religion and the beast government are empires and their intention is to expand throughout the world. Human religiosity extends throughout the Earth. What human being has never had a relationship with a religion? We cannot forget that the religion of Israel, together with the politics of the Romans, killed the savior of the world... If the prophet John had spoken out against religiosity directly in his time, this text would never have reached the present day... Christians follow the Messiah, the son of God, and religious people follow their religion.
