1/2 Day Deep Drop Fishing Ventura Harbor Sportfishing Island Spirit Switched to the Californian
Cousin Jim takes you on a 1/2 day trip on the Californian a 1942 built wooden sportfishing boat that has seen a lot of fish on her deck. The day did not disappoint as the 600 foot water produces some very nice Rock cod. Ruben Castaneda invited Cousin Jim along for a trip aboard the Island Spirit to fish Hidden Reef which just opened after a 20 year closure. Plans Changed and boats switched but many nice fish were caught.

you never know what will come up from the depths tight lines
You need a level wind reel for those long drops. Makes rock fishing a lot more enjoyable. Great content
maybe electric level wind what do you think? tight lines
Even better. My buddy pulled in a yellowtail down in Bay of LA with an electric level wind. They work great 👍🏽
@@rubena6105 the gut with the electric reel caught twice as many fish as everyone else he did not have as much time coming up as everyone else did because the electric reel retrieves faster
in my Florida videos I use Tanacoms a lot

Just to inform that shark was a dog tooth shark. That also has a barb at the end of the tail like a catfish. Once grabbed, it will try and sting you

Great video. Reminiscent of the trip I take to Westport Washington. Deep water Ling cod. When a person. Catches a small rock cod the deck hand will re hook and drop again and hopefully get a big linger. Happy fishing

Check out madame lures. I fish the mackerel one with a trailer treble hook. I tend to fish 50lb braid to 30lb. Slays lingcod and big rockfish

Just found out that the regular captain that had planned to fish the hidden reef have to drive the endeavor for a few days because the captain for that boat is sick, the captain that is filling in hasn’t responded on wear he will be fishing so I assume it’s some regular local deep water fishing and more than likely not that reef that the other captain had planned on fishing, sorry about that I just found out right now
