10 Trading Card Games from the 90s That couldn't outlast Magic The Gathering | Dead TCGs (1993-1995)
I was 7 years old going to tournaments with 40 year olds and saw no problem with that looking back it was probably really funny to be losing to me a child
some interesting titles i havent seen before so thanks. but interms of exploration only 7th continent and Forgotten Waters (which also have a book) seem to be comparable. Spirit Island defenitely not, it is just a puzzly strategy game.
I loved this game but it got to the point where who ever had the most expensive figure would win. Strategy didn't matter. Until I was a dick and made my friend quit. His Solvani character was so powerful it wiped out my army, but my Order of Vladd could move out of range of his attacks. So he couldn't finish me off and we got drunk.
You forgot Tainted Grail which it's most compared to 😂
Still the best game ever !!! Fuck Magic & D&D & Warhammer & Pokemon !!!! Mage Knight is perfect & the coolest characters & the cheapest & its pre painted figures but above all , it has literally the best game play of any boardgame handsdown!!! Its literally every other game i just mentioned but eith Axis & Allies rules 💕
Great video! I had s chance to learn about some games I've never seen before. Thank you!
the click mechanic was fine, and the special abilities weren't outstanding but they weren't terrible.. the core issue was the base combat system .. SUCKED... the way movement worked generally meant that whoever attacked first lost... it was a terrible mechanic. That prevented any meaningful tactical additions to the game. The click base concept and the story of the game were great, but that stupid, gradiant movement system was the worst I've ever seen in a tactical game. It didn't make any sense.
Finally somebody mentioned Doomtrooper 👍🏼👍🏼
I am just learning to play this game and this video has helped a lot, but one thing is not clear to me with the final girls health. Q. Lets say I have 4 health left including the +1 die token and I take 5 damage from an attack, does the damage stop at the token then I flip it and carry on assuming there is at least 1heart on the other side? or is she just dead? this really isn't clear in the rule book
The way I personally play it is that the damage doesn't "overflow". Take 5 damage: you go from 4 to zero, but you still have one last chance.
The damage stops at the token, if there are hearts the phase immediately ends and no excess damage is applied (per page 28 of the rules)
It's 2024 and i still play mage Knight, and I also collect MechWarrior. Sometimes I play with my brother. I was born in 93 but didn't know anything about WizKids figures till 2020. And I still collect em I love WizKids.
I am speaking for myself here but when I click on videos like this I'm hoping for game suggestions that capture the feel of the game, in terms of interaction, intensity, and complexity. I own obsession and love it but it doesn't scratch any of the same itches Dune gives me. Waterdeep, Dwellings, and Wonderland's War seem more apt.
For sure. I tried to cover a variety of games that might work, but depending on your expectations it might be the theme, one particular gameplay mechanic, complexity, the number of players, etc... that you're looking for. Can't make recommendations that work for everyone, but your suggestions would also work for Dune fans!
@@meepleshelter so let me ask you, if I want something that captures the intensity of Dune, what would you suggest? I love that oh. "O it's the last round and I have to do this or else! Feeling"
I just didn't like you recommend way many not soloable games. Besides that, great vid. Subscribed.
Sorry really dislike this kind of video no different to searching the geek
Excellent video. I was looking for this exact topic, and you delivered an informative video.
Best Clix games: #15 SportsClix, #14 Creepy Freaks, #13 Halo ActionClix, #12 Star Trek Attack Wing, #11 Mage Knight 2.0, #10 Heroclix Modern, #9 Mage Knight Conquest, #8 Crimson Skies, #7 Mech Warrior Solaris VII, #6 Heroclix 2009 to 2020, #5 Mage Knight, #4 Mech Warrior, #3 Heroclix 2002 - 2008, #2 Mage Knight Dungeons, #1 Horrorclix.
Great review BTW. Thanks!
There were certainly issues with WizKids, but the housing market crash is what killed MK.
Great list
Excellent summary. I've forgotten #6 most plays, especially the fact that it applies to the killer's health status too. (Never remembered that part.)
I was young and I was told that this new miniature game Mage Knights S1 was going to be the MTG Alpha of minis. I bought a bunch and …..nothing just a waste of $. What a bummer lol.
Great video overview and review, thanks! New sub :)
disclaimer: the game development is still in progress at the time of publishing this video so there might be new features, changes and redesign in the full version.
It's a wonderful world (2019) is the closest one to me
So cool
Review bombed badly. Are people reviewing the game or the company?
The game in itself is pretty good. I think people are pissed at how poorly the kickstarter went.
I used to play this at my local library!! I still have all my pieces!!
was an avid player through my childhood. i only quit because i couldnt find anyone to play with...have always wondered what happened. I came to this video because I would literally go play this weekend if i knew there was a tournament happening. Still have all my dragons and draconums
This is one of the best Top N lists I’ve watched. The overviews of each game were concise and to the point and I love the 3 alternatives for each game. Nice work! 🙂
Excelent list!
Looks like they don't want you to play the game, they just want you to collect everything.......lols 🤣😁 seriously though, I'm more interested in the pieces than i am in playing the game. I have an idea for them
Can Star Wars Rebellion be played solo?
Best mage knight player that ever lived here. I had every click of every figure memorized by heart. 😊 the og game will be continued in spirit in a new game called "pandemonium" Just so you know, you were right about some things but you weren't there so I will make a response video to help you understand
thank you so much 😊
stopped KS order last yr. 2024 goal: wait for retail versions, more play-throughs, reviews then spend wisely 😅
Thanks for similar game recommendations! Just subscribed 😊. Grove, Black Sonata, Maquis, Nusfjord, Food Chain Island, Wingspan, Meadow, Anno 1800, Final Girl, Earth, Floriferous, Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective 😊 Resist is out of stock 😢 Pandemic started the hobby
“You may also like these games” recommendations are simply ridiculous…
They are based on BGG's "fans also like" list for each game, so technically, they are reasonably accurate. However, because of my personal rule to not reuse the same game twice in the entire list, it leads to questionable results for large lists like this one (keeping in mind that this means almost 400 games are mentioned in the video). In my other videos, which typically showcase 15 games (for a total of about 45 including recommendations), it tends to work better. If I skip the idea of not mentioning the same game twice, it's mostly games from the top 100 itself that will keep showing up. Not great either IMO :) Honestly it's a tough call. Repetitive recommendations, or a list with variety but questionable results in some cases...
But it’s a video for solo gamers and then Nidavellir and others are recommended (not to mention that mechanics, theme and everything is just way different) :)
This doesn't address your concern regarding mechanics but fyi Nidavellir has a solo variant from the publisher. Available on their website for free. Look up "Nidavellir solo challenge".
“Ridiculous” is a stretch.

Wanna buy Terraforming Mars base game.Worth it or not?Boring or not?Advices please.Thanks... P.S:Cascadia,Ticket to Ride,Lost Ruins of Arnak or Tm?
Earth does not belong in this list, it was overhyped for no real reason. The game that is trying to mimic the giants like TM, Ark nova, and Wingspan, but ends up being a fiddly mess, an orgy of meaningless decisions.
Yeah we'll need to see how the dust settles for this one. There's always a risk of "over hype" for recent games.
💯
I agree. It got attached to the nature theme bandwagon and got a bunch of hype from DT. The game is average with mostly obvious choices. Same thing happened with wingspan.
Thanks for watching! Board Game sale on Amazon: amzn.to/3NyDdtU (affiliate link)
Scythe on the first place really surprises me. In my opinion Scythe is not even close to the depth of Terraforming Mars. It's way simpler, has less replayability and it gets boring quickly.

No time stamps...
You’re correct, no timestamps. What’s your point?
@awaitingbacklash5043 it's lazy and ruins the vid? Obviously the point.
@@awaitingbacklash5043 It makes viewing 40 minute vids a lot easier. I think I've watched a 100 best off/ top 10 videos lately and since I'm looking for new games to add to my list I want to able to skip through some of the ones I already know. Most, if not all of these vids had timestamps btw. And for some weird reason I also like the go backwards on these type of video's. Skip to nr1 and then work my way down the list.
I don’t really think that’s a problem with this video. Name of the game is front and center for the whole entry. Easy enough to skip manually, especially on mobile.
If you want something big and historical: "Europa Universalis: The Price of Power" is my pick!
Fantastic condensed and 'no fluff' summary. I especially like and appreciate the 'you might also like' comments. Well done, good sir. 👍
Really like the "you may also like" bar on the side. Well done graphics and commentary. Sub'd
Ergo: there is no game like Spirit Island.
It truly feels unique, yes!
I appreciate the time and effort put in the video, as well as the short introductory presentations for each game. The photography, music, and pace of your video are great. Your using of the passive voice is appropriate when you can't provide information yourself but base your statement on other player's viewpoint. Yet I can't help but wonder about your criteria for choosing your suggestions. I can see that theme is a thing, but most of the time (at least for the games I know very well in the list) the mechanics between the suggestions and the original game have little, if any at all, in common. I'm not sure they are a great indicator of similarity.
You're making a good point and I didn't explain that clearly in the video or in the description: the recommendations are based on bgg recommendations for each game, while at the same time attempting to *never name a single game more than once*. This usually works pretty well, but in this case this means a lot of great solo games (for example) are excluded from the recommendation because they're either already in the list itself, or in the recommendations for another game. For example, Sprawlopolis is probably a great recommendation if you like Rove, but it won't be in there because it's already somewhere else in the list (either in the top 100 itself, or recommended somewhere else in the "you might like" section)
Or, in other words, the goal here was to have 300~400 different games showcased in a list of 100. This tends to work better when I make lists of 15 games (which are really closer to 50~60). For more details (and see how weird it can get sometimes), you can click on the "fans also like" links on each game on bgg.
Here's my top 10 list of game that I own and love solo but did not make the list (in no particular order): - Shadows of Brimstone - Yggdrasil Chronicles - Helionox - Goblivion - Ils of Cats - Raiders of scythia - Atlantis Rising - Last Bastion - Dwellings of Eldervale (but with some tweaking of the solo rules to make it harder) - Sub Terra
Awesome list! I've been willing to try subterra, atlantis rising, and shadows of brimstone for a while
