Seems like a steal for $5. I might see what they have for O Gauge over there.

Great Video My Young Friend, I recently purchased back one of my first of three GG-1’s. It’s going to be nothing more than a self queen at this point. It does still run as well as the day it was purchased. It’s my prayer you have as much fun with yours as I did and will have with mine. Keep on Railroading and Be Safe!

I do think the slow top speed is a bit too slow and is a result of using a 240v (ie. UK) transformer with 120v supply (I assume you are in the US?). But, you are correct in that the Gaugemaster shouldn't give you 350mph scale top speeds the trainset controller from Hornby, Bachmann etc do! Gaugemaster have been available in the UK for several decades - maybe since the 1970s. Not cheap but arguably the best "old fashioned" DC controllers. Their DCC controllers are (I think) rebranded ones from a specialist US manufacturer. In the UK (at least) the DC controller comes with a genuine lifetime warranty; something goes wrong with it and you contact them for an address to send it to. They'll fix it and send it back. That guarantee should give you confidence in the controller. :-)

That is a nice review of the loco and the drive, with shots taken from the inside. Mehano later introduced a two-motor setup for their GG-1 model, whereby each truck was powered by its own motor from Mabuchi, with drive shafts (no springs).

Though this real PRR 0-4-0 has a different boiler than the model, your thoughts are correct, it is a handrail which is missing from the tender, this is from a website which has a good photo roster of Pennsylvania locomotives, www.northeast.railfan.net/images/prr1332sa.jpg

And, just because, here's another PRR 0-4-0 with a fellow up on the tender adding water to tender, www.northeast.railfan.net/images/prr112.jpg

Good review and a nice loco. They were heavy freight locos so probably didn't run particularly fast, maybe 40mph or so? I remember really wanting one of these when looking through the Hornby catalogue in the early '90s as a kid, eventually got one, only many years later though! Hope to see more British locos on your channel

Great model train there my friend. I used to own a similar model that was 58025. If you find one, I would recommend getting a Lima Class 60 or the newer Hornby Class 60 models as they are great. I have a model of 60001 in similar colours to this one. This Class 58 was first released in 1988 and I do love the older Hornby model trains as they are still great models and robust as well :). All the best from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Peter.

I like the choice of British locomotives and coach liveries you have, I'm subscribing because I like the potential of this layout, and want to contribute ideas and suggestions if I may. I know with O, and G gauge that using the rolls of pre-cut astroturf from Lowes makes for a quick layout base, while adding to the sound suppression; I'm almost thinking there would be a lighter weight smaller ply grass that could help you out in HO/OO scale, without the markup cost of "Woodland Scenics". Might suggest a Masonite fiber board (most come in 4x8, but can be cut down to smaller pieces at the store, easier to place on layout in sections); it won't give the lively green puffiness of grass, but I've found that drawing roads, laying out towns, neighborhoods with primer Rustoleum grey can help highlight. "Meadow Green", with a light over spray misting of red oxide, or brown primer is a just my suggestion, but if you want ideas I'd be willing to learn more about HO/OO scale and get ideas with brainstorming sessions.
