It's cool how alot of cabooses didn't neccessarily get retired and removed from service. A certain amount of us know that any survivors were turned into shoving platforms for yards and local jobs. It's obviously still better none the less than being scrapped or awaiting that fate in some junk yard. It's interesting to see air horns being mounted to cabooses. There also is a few former MOPAC CA-27's still out there including SP/SSW C-40-3's. I'm curious if any UPRR CA-9's might still be in usage somewhere. Another prolonged purpose that Union Pacific did specifically to a certain amount of surviving CA-27's was repaint them into the dubbed "Puke Green" which was Missouri Pacific's MOW color. That scheme fully transitioned into Union Pacific within three years of the merge after former MOPAC management indoctrinated themselves into the system. Union Pacific's own MOW color was Aluminum Silver. Those specific CA-27's are only used for MOW and on work trains. Interestingly enough any of them still retain the red trucks of MOPAC originality.

I really miss that spot. 😢 I could railfan Amtrak, BNSF and UP on the same road.

Most train crews will have to deal with at least one pedestrian fatality in their career; often more. I’ve been a Conductor for only 3 years and have already experienced hitting someone, along with countless near misses. Don’t be stupid around railroad tracks.

Now. Do not try this at home because you would rik your lives in doing such idiotic accidents like that or could risk a very heavy fine + jail sentence

If my memory serves, the only nice thing about the MWCRV is that it's a mostly empty train. The MRVWC _formerly_ the QRVWC is an all-night drag that drains you of your will to live. Small edge to the WCRV then. Both suck. The real winner is laying sick and letting the extra board deal with it.

Natural Selection is a thing, and if your not careful, it will get you.

They should try this testing a high speed train like they have in Japan or China.

I worked for a short time as an intern in a railroad division engineering office while I was a college civil engineering student. Anytime there was an accident involving railroad equipment in my division, I was the one that got sent out to investigate and create a map for the inevitable court case. The Hogheads ( you call them engineers), aren't the only ones that get traumatized when people exercise their right to be stupid. One that I got sent on was a loader/backhoe that got hit in a crossing (flashing lights, no crossbucks because of isolated location). The loader/backhoe major part that landed closest to the point of impact flew over 200 feet. I got to the scene before law enforcement or medical. That's not something I'm wildly enthusiastic to do ever again. Another one I got sent out on was a loaded dump truck hit in a crossing in the middle of the night. The train won that one too. You wanna tango with a train? I'm bettin' against you every time.

I remember watching one of those old 50s/60s public awareness about railroad safety where some kids were walking though a rail yard with plenty of train activity... a train engineer spotted them and was able to stop on a dime then got out of the locomotive & engaged in a friendly chat with the boys educating them about railroad safety.
