I have learned, from 15 years of intensive independent research, that the original co-authors of "A Christmas Carol" were Mathew Franklin Whittier and his wife, Abby Poyen Whittier. Dickens plagiarized it by hurriedly and disrespectfully turning their spiritualist redemption story into a "ghost story," for quick cash.

I have found evidence that Charles Dickens was not the original author of "A Christmas Carol." Rather, he merely commercialized the original--a spiritualist redemption story in which all the supernatural elements were intended to be authentic--into a mere "Ghost Story of Christmas," as he subtitled it. The original co-authors, I believe, were an American couple named Mathew Franklin Whittier and Abby Poyen Whittier. Abby was responsible for all the mystical and paranormal elements, as well as the spiritual power of the story. I can prove, from Dickens' handwritten draft, that he dumbed down Abby's mysticism in at least one instance.

After 15 years of independent research, I'm convinced that "A Christmas Carol" was originally written by Mathew Franklin Whittier, and his wife, Abby Poyen Whittier. Dickens merely re-worked it, within six weeks, into a "ghost story" for the masses, to make some quick cash. He pretended all his life to have been the original author.

I find this address by Abraham Lincoln to be a defining moment in American history when an American president rose to the occasion and defined and upheld the true basis of democracy and upheld American values and freedoms. Sadly, I draw comparisons between then and now. The contrast is startling!!!! I enjoyed the beautiful colorful descriptions & honest opinions of a seasoned & adventurous lone lady traveler. She is brave & capable, telling accurate first hand accounts of life in the US in the later 1800s. This recording is the 1880 edition read by a woman with a lovely voice.
