Loved the video Amanda! I have done some experiments with the same technique and the variety of shapes is really cool. However, the color of the silver has turned grey and coppery. How do I restore the silver color without too much abrasion as I like the organic shapes and surfaces and want to retain them.

Use a fine stainless steel strainer with the handle bent up in the bottom of your water bath. It’ll catch most if not all of your silver and be easy to pic up…

Yeah.."sunglasses..their close enuff" ..probably true with silver because it returns to solid..not so much with other more fluid things..like lye...goggles keep things from running down your forehead into your eyes..even safety glasses are not so protective when it comes to these things..but a stylish pair of goggles or your favorite swim mask (and snorkel cuz you know you're the type that's gonna be all in for safety!) you can't go wrong there..and if you can make it look cool then you can never be too safe.. but if it can't be made to look cool then free yourself and party naked! Ouch!

Nancy, purchase a melting crucible,it is enclosed preventing loss of heat,as you pour keep the flame very close to the crucible,the crucible close to the water,and follow the metal w/the flame into the water. Be careful,and Happy Pouring.

When I did my first pour, I used a lot more silver and poured it fast. Try pouring it ALL a one time.

Yes, please do more of these. I know there was a woman helping a famous artist. Can't recall who. i came across that story many years ago. She was Italian, I think. Not sure if she was in France or Italy when helping this artist..

You can always ship them to me haha. If you buy moisture absorbent balls, leave them to soak in cold water for 24hours, they'll bloat to a grape size possibly, fill a tank with ice cold water and add the gyrated ball until they completely fill your tank. Heat your silver and pour away. You'll get some crazy amazing shapes. Almost corral like.

Add fine silver casting grains to the scrap to up the pure silver content. It's the alloy mixed with the silver that is flattening out the silver also giving it the copper color to some of the pieces.

Try using 80-90 wt instead of water

you need to use clean silver, or at least 50% needs to be unheated to get a good result. i thought the big ones looked good though

Seems like women painters before the modern era get ignored an awful lot. I can really only think of a few myself and just from exposure to pop culture male painters are everywhere. Turns out there were lots of women making a living painting portraits but they were thought of as commercial artists and not "real" artists I guess. I hope you do more of these kinds of videos! -Lisa

Liking this series a lot! I never was successful at water casting. You got some seriously cool shapes out of that. I wonder why it forms a bell, it would be neat to see slomo of the shapes forming as they hit the water.
