Helicopter Ride Doors Off - Kauai, HI with original music
My wife and I have had a trip to Hawaii and a helicopter ride on our to do list for a number of years. We finally did both! I was not originally intending to take photos or have any video. But, I just got a new phone, booked a doors off helicopter ride, and nailed a seat on the right side - outside edge - no brainer for videos! I haven't surfed in a really long time so I booked a lesson and it did not disappoint! I'm going to recommit myself to getting back into surfing this summer. Hope you all enjoy the ride and the music! Aloha

Santa Rosa

Although I have composed quite a bit of music I have never written a waltz. Dominic and I decided to write one for this concert. There's a beautiful road in Camarillo, CA called "Santa Rosa" that was the inspiration for this song. We also wanted to have an interesting chord progression and melody that would provide the emotion and journey that "Santa Rosa" represents.
Music for the soul. Over 30 minutes of music to chill by , also great for meditation and healing.

For now please enjoy the mellow tunes and I hope it provides some peace and healing in your life today. I left out "The Seventh Reflection." I felt like it's vibe and key center may interupt the flow of this particular collection. You can hear that piec...

I've started working on this tune and thought it would be nice to extend some mellow monday vibes. It's such a happy and peaceful song. My main acoustic guitar has silk and steel strings and it's super difficult not to bend the lowest string. This is a guitar that my wife won in a raffle so I'm experimenting with heavier gauge strings.

Awesome view 😎
I am so grateful I found this video, it solved my issue, would have never figured it out on my own
This fixed me.. now how to get the latency usable 😁 thank you!
Great news! I don't know a lot about trouble shooting other peoples rigs due to the fact that there are so many variables in terms of interfaces and operating systems etc. But, a universal treatment for latency - which you may have already considered - is to increase the I/O Buffer size on your audio devices menu. Regardless I'm so glad you got the plug in to work and you're almost there! Maybe someone else will comment on possible ways to treat latency within the framework of this issue. Cheers have a great day!
@@thedavereynoldsproject7091 - Yep, the latency effs up the feel big time.. gives off a compressed, honky horn type undertone. Hate it. The buffer is at 64, so I think it’s either my interface (the Helix floor unit) or my iMac is just not up to snuff. Anyway, thanks again!!
Wow, pretty sure I fixed my latency issue.. seems when I slapped together an empty Helix preset (USB out) for running straight into the DAW, I didn’t realize the noise gate (input block) was set to on - and the settings were squashing the signal. I have turned it off and the latency is fine.
that's great news! Thanks for keeping us posted and please keep us updated on how you're doing with recording!@@sboy1955
How do you play chords on it
I'll be more then happy to make a quick video demonstrating the chords on the vihuela - please look for that mid to late next week. Cheers
Thanks Dave! I’ve been messing with my helix native plug in all week trying to figure out why I wasn’t getting any audio when trying to record 🤘
So glad it helped! I 'm not great at software solutions and don't normally post videos like this but once I figured it out with help from a buddy of mine I thought someone else might have the same journey - so glad you're up and running!
which OS are you running? I'm still getting the banner at the top of helix native that says "device has not been initialized..." what's the fix for that?
This started when got a new computer and upgraded to ventura 13.5
Hi Robert - I’ll be able to check the operating system for my main computer when I’m back in my studio next week. I usually keep my computers updated so if I had to guess it’s Sonoma but I will check and will get back to you soon - I'll also take a look at what I did to initialize the helix etc.
Hey Robert - I hope you were able to get your Helix native up and running. My operating system is Ventura 13.4.1
Hey Dave. No it’s not.
Great review as I just purchased Bose S1 Pro plus AND I have a Pod Go! Just happens my name is Dave Reynolds, play guitar and have a music studio. Currently living in Germany…Small world 😊
That's fantastic Dave and thanks for the kind words! I'd love to hear some of your tracks sometime. Have a great day
The part that kills me: "It's a great beginner guitar and also gets people to an intermediate level." Yeah. Marcel Dadi, Maury Muelheieen, Al Di Meola, Larry Coryell, Glen Campbell, and Tony Rice used them because they were "a great beginner guitar." Right. Whatever.
Robert Fripp was also a great beginner! 😉
Can Helix Native mirror my Helix Floor and all of its custom presets and I.R’S? For example…I’d like to bounce around through my presets in Native as if I’m on the floor unit…but for someone reason it seemed like I had to transfer in each preset one at an time. Am I wrong about this?
I'm not aware of this being a possibility. I haven't used the helix pedalboard with the native plugin like that. But, I really like the idea. I'll check with a few friends to see what I can find out. My feeling is that's it's not possible but who knows! I'll get back with an answer soon.
@@thedavereynoldsproject7091 Thanks so much !
From what I'm gathering you can mirror your pedal board with the Helix Editor, but not the Native plug in. If you're in your home studio - with some room to work with - then I'd plug the Helix into your interface, use the helix pedal board editor and record with it that way. Also, you can copy and paste your plug ins from your Helix editor to your native editor. You might consider saving the patches from your pedal board to your desktop on your computer and dragging them into your native editor. Hope that helps!! @@R0BL68

Question why does it say acoustic guitar but your using a Electric guitar and sounds great
Thanks so much for viewing and commenting. I'm not sure where the acoustic guitar reference is in the video - please let me know and I'll be more then happy to answer that question.
@@thedavereynoldsproject7091 I’am saying in the manual on the Bose s1 the button it’s self says Acoustic Guitar so to me I felt a Electric could not be used ! Or possible not as good maybe as a acoustic guitar ?
@@holmes1978 okay that's a great question. I think what you're referring to is the tone match switch on the back of the speaker. If you plug a guitar in you can switch it to the guitar icon and a preset EQ will be engaged to enhance the sound of your guitar. I don't use that setting. I leave it in the off position and I get my EQ and tone from the pedal board. But plug a guitar directly in and see how it sounds - you might really like it!
Is it loud enough for rehersal with a band?
Hi Guillermo - that’s a good question. This speaker is plenty loud for many situations - it’s great for singer songwriter gigs and for smaller group and smaller venues. But, if you’re turning up the volume and playing in a rock, or pop band situation, or on a church gig then I would use this speaker as a monitor - use the line out to plug into a sound system for those situations, or add another speaker. You can also put the speaker on a pole to get it off the floor so you can hear it better. Maybe some other musicians here will post some of their experiences with the volume. Hope that helps Guillermo!
Great!
Dave, thanks for posting this. I tried a few FRFR amps with no luck and just picked up a Bose S1 pro, it sounds fabulous with the PodGo. Just curious, can you share the preset youre using for the Pat Metheney tone?
Hey David - so glad you've got a rig that you really like! I would be more than happy to share the presets with you for the Pat Metheny tone as soon as I'm back in my buddy's studio - my PODGo is there. I'll be able to post the settings within the next couple of weeks. Contact me again if you don't hear from me by 16th or 17th of this month. Cheers and thanks for checking in!!
Hey David - I've got my PODGo and the patch that I used for my Pat Metheny style sound is based on a patch that I purchased from Michael Britt - he has a suite of patches for $15 that sound really great and you'll need the IR's. Let me know if you purchase those and I can share my tweaked Metheny style patch. I can also tell you which IR to use. Definitely check out his patches at mbritt.com/product/pod-go-up-and-running-pack/ Cheers!
Very hard to hear the guitar, but again thank you for the information.
Thanks for the lesson, you may want to turn the guitar volume up a bit in future videos.
So glad you enjoyed the lesson. My microphone set up is much better now - just need to make more videos - cheers!
Got the line 6 pod go, sending the signal from main outs to the mixer. Can I send another signal from amp out to the Bose as a monitor for the stage?
Hey David - Thanks so much for your question. The amp output will most likely not sound good with the Bose S1as it’s meant for guitar amplifiers as opposed to full range speakers. For the best results you might consider getting a direct box - passive radial stage bug for instance. Consider running your PODGo in mono if you’re using just one Bose speaker. You would run mono out from the PODGo into the direct box and then out from the direct box to the mixer. Then you would run a cable from the thru of the direct box to your Bose speaker. Lots to consider, but the direct box will help maintain the purity of your sound to the mixer and your Bose S1 Pro. I hope this helps David!
Hello! Do I need a trs to xlr cable? Or a trs to midi cable in order to play a guitar?
The Bose Speaker features 2 XLR-1/4 inch combination jacks so you can use either type of cable when connecting a pedal board, or microphone, or guitar direct to the Bose speaker. With the POD Go you can connect with a regular 1/4 inch cable from your guitar to the pedal board - it does not have any XLR jacks. Thanks for viewing and I hope that helps! Have a great day.
@@thedavereynoldsproject7091 thank you for the answer my good man! Have a great day!
I have one and it's been a learning process. IMHO opinion it is a great playing guitar and I play expensive Strats! I use it with a POD HD 500X. I also replaced the medium frets w/ medium jumbo frets. Once again, don't expect plug and play for the models but, as a stand alone guitar, it is really nice.
Absolutely awesome 👌 brother!
Hello Mr. Reynolds. I am currently finishing building this same model guitar, but even though the plans detailed the sizes for the gut frets there is no indication of the string sizes. The scale length is 69mm. Could you please let me know what material you use on your instrument ( nylon, nylgut, or gut ) and what their sizes are. Whatever you are using they sound very nice as well as your playing. Thank you.
Hello Earl, thanks so much for your kind words and congratulations on finishing your build - that is impressive!! It's been quite a while since I've ordered strings for that guitar. But, whenever I need strings for my period instruments I always contact Olav Chris Henriksen at bostoncatlines.com He is a wealth of information and will ask you very specific questions about your instrument - you will get exactly what you need. Having said that the strings that he sent for this baroque guitar were Alliance Savarez early period instrument strings. I would highly suggest just contacting him - you'll get expert advice and strings!
@@thedavereynoldsproject7091 Thank you very much for this information. I will contact him
@@abbottart2000 the other brand of strings that I’ve gotten from Olav are out of Germany called Pyramid strings but I think you’ll really enjoy whatever you get from him Earl - enjoy your baroque guitar!

Can I stream a song with the Bluetooth tooth channell And sing thru another channel at the same time or is it one or the other
yes - you can connect a microphone and sing at the same time that you stream and you would still have an additional input for another instrument or microphone. There are two inputs that can used for instruments like a guitar or a keyboard, and/or vocals plus an additional channel for streaming
@@thedavereynoldsproject7091 thanks 🙏

BIG thanks to you for posting this video. I've been trying to find how does this set up work. I recently got an Mx5 with the goal of getting a portable PA system for small shows. This is an excellent reference for what I'm trying to achieve. I play using backing tracks but I have only found videos where they use Acustics. Was afraid that the electric guitar might cause an undesired distortion or some lack of clarity.
Thanks so much Sergio and so glad that this helped you with your solution to keep getting your music out there!
Hi, great video. So you can plug the pod output line level into the Bose #1 input? For metal tone, it is working fine?
thanks for the kind words and yes you can go from the left/mono main out of the POD Go into either one of the first 2 channels on the Bose. Be sure to test the tone match switch on the Bose to see if you prefer how it sounds with tone match on or off - it's an awesome but powerful little rig. Most all of the tweaking will happen on the POD Go - enjoy!
@@thedavereynoldsproject7091 thanks for sharing…. On my side, I don’t have pod go, I have headrush mx5 but I’m sure it’s the same thing
@@bertssuggests I looked up the headrush mx 5 manual and yes you have a quarter inch left mono out - that's perfect.
@@thedavereynoldsproject7091 hi! First off great video. Do you prefer the tonematch on or off? Going in with a quad cortex I find it sounds muffled and boxy with the TM off. Do you use a cab emulation before going in?
@@mungstrosity Hi Sergio - Great question. I might use the tone match for an acoustic guitar plugged directly into the Bose and for vocals as well. I could also set up some nice acoustic guitar patches and vocal patches on the POD Go and may not use the tone match if I'm happy with my pedal board tones. My POD Go sounds really good on its own so I don't usually engage the tone match with that pedal board. I do have an amp and speaker cabinet and some effects engaged on the POD Go. It's wonderful to have the tone match option. A fun and productive challenge would be to turn off the tone match on the bose and to tweak your pedal until you have a sound that's not boxy or muffled and sounds like the tone that you like when the tone match is engaged. You'll most likely be using your pedal with other peoples mixing boards on gigs and maybe on some recordings as well so you want that great sound whether or not you're playing through your Bose - then you're sounding great all the time and you'll sound great through the Bose whether you use the tone match or not. The point is to have a great sound before you go into your speaker and then let that speaker enhance even more and of course the fact that the Bose is battery powered and light is a huge part of why I like it so much and it's a great idea to turn the tone match on and off before you begin playing to see how you're sounding - it's all a lot of fun! Cheers Sergio and please let me know if you have any further questions.
Dedication to your art. I appreciate this. Bluegrass is not my preferred genre, but they all deserve a bit of study to appreciate them. Thank you Dave.
Thanks Roland - and yes there are so many great players of equal talent and abilities and accomplishments in so many styles of music with bluegrass having musicians like Mark O'Connor who plays with Yo-Yo Ma and and all styles of music and is one of the greatest violinist and guitarists and musicians and session players of all time and then there's Jerry Douglas and Brent Mason and the list is very very long - so fun!!
Awesome lesson. Thanks for this.. is that a Triple 0 12 fretter? Do you feel limited using a guitar like that versus using a Dreadnaught ?
Thanks for your kind words! This guitar is a replica of an 1890's Martin 0040 guitar that was hand made with steel strings as opposed to nylon. It has silk and steel strings because the bracing is light but I absolutely love playing it. I don't feel limited by it at all - it's definitely a different sound and the guitar does require a lighter touch because it's easy to bend the strings out of tune. I also enjoy playing dreadnaught guitars and it's nice to have a guitar with a large presence for bluegrass jams.
where's the 8 hr long sound track? Waiting.
Hi Bob - that's quite the compliment and would be a fun and rewarding challenge - I'll keep it in mind! You can probably get at least a few hours out of my spotify channel but a long soundtrack would be sweet and I'd love to get some of my tracks on a movie or tv show. I'll keep composing and recording for sure.
What cable you using from pod to bose? and do you select guitar on bose channel?
Hello Jok - I use a quarter inch guitar cable from the left mono out on the pod to the Bose. I'm leaving the Bose channel instrument selector off for now, although I'm constantly tweaking my sound so you'll definitely want to audition that to see if you like it on or off for your patches. Thanks for the question, and have a great day!
