Taking a Weaving off the Loom
Ending a Weaving
Просмотров 99Год назад
This video shows how to secure loose ends at the end of your weaving. I recommend at least 3 rows of twining at the bottom edge of your weaving and ample warp left to knot when you take it off.
Rya Knots/ Fringe

This is a great way to end your weaving. The length and amount of layers is up to you, just remember to lock your rya in place with rows of twining or plain weave to secure them.
Soumak Stitch

Soumak creates a braid design. Here, I use two different thicknesses of fiber. Always make sure to reset your warp but weaving some twining or plain weave at the end, and sometimes between rows.
Part 2: Creating Shapes

In part 2, I show you how to fill in the empty spaces, making sure to do as many rows as were left empty. I like to think of it as Tetris, making the pieces fit in to each other.
Part 1: Creating Shapes

In this video I use tabby/plain weave to begin a triangular shape. I use two less warp strings to weave between to create the diagonal edge. This will leave some warp strings empty, that I will fill in in Part 2.
Tabby/Plain Weave with Roving
Просмотров 72Год назад
Using the the basic tabby/plain weave stitch, you can use roving to create bubbly, fluffy texture. Because the roving is a much thicker fiber, going over 2 warp strings and under 2 warp strings will help it fit without messing up your warp strings. Don’t forget a couple rows of tabby or twining to lock it in place.

This is the most basic stitch of weaving and can be used for a large variety of purposes. It creates the strength of the fabric created by weaving, can be used to build up areas to create shapes or designs, and there are many varieties of ways to use tabby/plain weave.
Twining Stitch

Twining is a good stitch for beginning and ending your weaving to help the edges stay strong. It is also a great stitch for creating curves, adding structure after a loose stitch, or beautiful on its own for anywhere you’d like to put it.

I hope that you can show us some different items to make using weaving. Most channels do mats or rugs. Be nice to see baskets, for example.

G’Day from Australia. This is a nice stitch. I use strips of old sheets to make pet beds and mats for animal rescues. I think I will try this stitch for my next mat.
