I sailed out to New Zealand from Southhampton on the Southern Cross in 1964 to meet my father for the first time. I will forever be haunted by that trip being alone at 17 years old without any sort of traveling companion. I still have nightmares to this day and I am 76 years old. I am fascinated by the ship and at the same time horrified by my reaction on even hearing it’s name. I still hold onto photos and souvenirs from that trip. It’s a love hate relationship. I have been living in the U.S.A for the last 54 years.

I made it on here in the deck quoits scene. I have never been on SC but was on Northern Star twice.

We did this trip in 1970 but from NZ to the UK so this vlog brought back many memories thanks

I traveled to NZ on the Southern cross as an 11 year old in September 1967 but we went a different way Las Palmas Cape town Durban Perth Melbourne Sydney and finally Wellington they were still building the Sydney opera house. I can remember the cranes surrounding it what a ship it was every day seemed like an adventure to me and my younger brother, we spent hours down in the indoor pool where the lifeguard would play the guitar for us kids his favourite was when I'm 64 which to me as an 11 year old seemed a lifetime away, well guess what that lifetime away has already passed as now I'm 67, scary.

Wow awesome!! Me and my family were on this ship we emigrated from UK 🇬🇧 to NZ.. I was just 17 and never really wanted to leave my home town in Wales, and unfortunately never settled 😑 But that was 60 years ago and watching this video feels like yesterday.. It's brought back memories of arriving in NZ a world 🌎 away from home, and how I felt so alone 😔 add to the fact my 60 years in NZ have not been happy... Thank you so much for posting this wonderful memorable video, it's already helping me heal from such horrible homesickness...God bless 🙌

My parents and I joined the ship in Perth and came home to UK in spring of 1964. I still remember swimming across the little pool up front,and feeling something touch my stomach,and finding a little girl floating under the water.She nearly drowned but luckily they got her in time.I was only 9 and didnt know what to do, but Ive never forgotten it. Apart from that,what memories of my trip from UK to OZ and back at that age. I went out on Northern Star.

I can't really get it. Why would such a talent go unrecognized for decades on end following this song (and many others). I don't know whatever put an end to Robbie's carrier as a performer, some articles say he wasn't eligible to ......whatever he should have been eligible to. Bullshit. Next thing I saw here (on youtube) was a saddening video decades after his prime time where he was barely unrecogniseable. Only hope that he's found his way to stay in music business to enrich it, of which he was meant to, and it's sure as it is.
