A SPEARFISHING STORY
"This is a story from my 18 years of traveling for spearfishing and freediving. One of these adventures took place in Bali, where I met Mawa, a fisherman who is an expert in his home and the sea. Despite not speaking each other's languages, we were able to form a strong friendship through our shared passion for hunting and the art of freediving. Our enthusiasm for the sport allowed us to easily communicate and connect, despite the language barrier."

This is one of my favorite spearfishing shot. Hunting my favorite fish the Dentex one of the world most challenging fish to catch in spearfishing. Can i ask why ppl (seems to be mostly foreigners too) take up spearfishing solely for sport? It just looks unnecessary and excessive since its not for survival and seems to contribute to already overfished oceans. But maybe I'm wrong? Would love to hear your thoughts
Spearfishing is a bit like gardening or farming in the way that it reconnects people to their natural environment. When you take the effort to grow something in the garden by planting a seed, watering it, weeding the garden, feeding the soil, harvesting the food, preparing the food and then feeding your family, it gives you a deep sense of understanding connection to the natural environment. Spearfishing is similar due to the fact that in order to spearfish successfully you must learn about your body and how it works and train to freedive. Then you must enter the marine environment and begin to understand how fish feed, shelter, move and interact with the world around them and deal with predators (like man). The hunt then begins which has an appeal all of its own (and appears differently to the uninitiated). Selecting an individual target species, positioning yourself in order to have a shot opportunity and then shooting and landing the fish are all skills that take time and energy to develop. Then when you have the fish on your spear, you must kill the fish, care for the fish (bleed and ice the fish), fillet or prepare the fish for eating, wash all the equipment and then finally cook the fish. This is a huge time investment that exists in contrast to the supermarket/consumer instant food on the table process that most of us exist in in our modern day lives. With work, time, knowledge and understanding comes greater connection with the natural environment and therefore a far more sustainable and ethical mindset towards food. Nature does not exist in a vacuum and humans can be a healthy part of the ecosystem. Overfishing exists due to disconnection between people and the natural environment not the opposite. - Shrek

Beautiful imagery and spectacular diving! But the jump-cut edits bug the crap out of me. Needless, distracting and bothersome. Each dive should be shown in its entirety, uncut, from descent all the way through to the return to the surface.
