    My advice is always to buy the best tools you can afford. Quality pays in the long run , cheap seems to be a waste almost immediately.

    I think the rake away is that for basic hand tools Chinese stuff is generally as good at this point as they are coming out of similar manufacturing equipment

    Neat! I have seen adjustable spoon mules where the head can be raised or lowered to an extent to improve ergonomics, but your solution is very good. The beauty of woodworking is that almost all tools can be modified, particularly if the tool has been made from scratch. Then the intimidating thought that your idea is not as good as the manufacturer's concept is not present. Btw, I really like the octagonal handle on your gouge. Very well done and thank you for sharing. All the best from Scotland.
