I grew up in Las Vegas all most every night unwound love listening to the radio station

I listened to this station on the Radio Shack crystal radio set I built when I was a kid. It was one of the few stations I could pick up on it in San Diego.

Still my favorite contribution to this special day, all these years later.

In early 1975 I built the Radio Shack three transistor P-Box shortwave receiver at the age of 12. There's never been anything else that could make me feel quite the way that little project could. I was so excited to show my parents that I was listening to London, Prague, and for gosh sakes Moscow (!) on a 3 foot piece of wire. That fall I spotted the Globe Patrol while in a hobby shop with my Dad and it became the number one gift on my Christmas list. On Christmas I spent all day sniffing solder flux to build it, and it worked better than I could imagine. With a 50 foot attic antenna I was able to start hearing all kinds of exotic places. (That antenna is still in the attic even after the house was sold last year. I'm sure it still hums with the 10 Mhz carrier of WWV). In the fall of 76 my bike was stolen so I opted to spend the insurance on a Radio Shack DX-160B that I had been drooling over. It was the 160B that allowed me to hear ssb and discover ham radio. Happily, the 160B is still in my possession. The Globe Patrol was a real gem and I wish I hadn't disassembled it for radio parts when I was in my teens. I just didn't realize at the time how many exciting memories were locked up in that little regen. AB0TA
