I haven't seen what I'm calling the female since the 21st of January. This morning I noticed an owl showed up, but it's the other one (or at least a different one). In the past when he has shown up, if he enters the box he doesn't stay long, just like this time.

OK. I'm pretty sure now this is a mated pair of owls. Here's the male bringing a blue jay back to the box. I think he gave up trying to figure out how to bring it into the box and flew off again. You can see the female flying in just after he landed on the box.

Troll Calendar Day after Leap Day
Просмотров 1321 день назад
On Leap Day, the troll moves a stone and the day of week marker and then turns around for a day of rest. When he next wakes up, he is facing away from the platforms with stones on them (all 8 stones could be in a single platform). If when he wakes up he sees no stones, then he turns around to the leftmost platform. This could be a different platform than the one he was facing before he turned a...

Screech Owl Eyeball Update
Просмотров 9Месяц назад
As if to show off how the eye is healing, the screech owl perches at the entrance to the box and shows off the healing eye. The eye was injured some time between December 1 and December 4. For a few days, the owl kept that eye closed.

Bathroom Acoustics

The fan in my bathroom makes a hum and a whine. I noticed the whine goes away when my head is in certain positions/orientations in the bathroom. I thought I'd try to record the phenomenon, not knowing if stereo recording was required. Apparently not. Probably the phenomenon is primarily due to reflections off walls and such.

Yesterday this owl stashed a rat in the box to be eaten later. I suspect it ate most or all of it yesterday judging by its cleaning its beak after leaving the box. Here you see it returning in the morning. These days it returns around 7AM. Then the blue jays come to check if the owl is inside and then usually start alarming. I didn't notice much alarming this morning. I'm interested in this vid...

The link didn't work. I wonder if that's Google defeating my link. Let me try here> victorengel.com/trollcalendar/index.html
Where did you see this spider? We found ours near Salmon Arm, BC
This was in Austin, Texas.
We found one in Blind Bay, BC, Canada
Which zone you lived
Used to be 8b, then it got changed to 9. I think it might get changed back to 8 again since we've had 3 years in a row now with below normal colds. (Austin, Texas)
7:37 I pass a gravel train - when I turn onto Steck, exiting the freeway, I drive under this same train.
6:05 Although speeding by the VW got it way ahead of me, I'm now caught back up (I'm not speeding).
5:08 that VW cuts in front of me without a turn signal! It's interesting to watch our relative progress over the ensuing minutes.
I like going a different way home than the way I came, so, regrettably, I accepted the route organized by the mapping app. It suggested going over 290, which, it turned out, was a big mistake due to the traffic congestion.
6:17 I'm in Comfort now, and I realize I didn't have the GPS set to navigate to the Little League Baseball diamond, so I stopped to consult the map. Unfortunately, there was no service from this position, so from here I navigated by instinct.
About 4:33 sunrise
3:22 suddenly a great view over the way ahead.
0:14 I stopped to check the map. I was skeptical the suggested route would be taking me north. I should be going south. After checking the map. I concurred - this was just a fast way to get to 360. Had I planned the trip myself, I'd probably have taken Anderson Road to 360 instead. I generally don't like the intersection at Research Blvd. and Capitol of Texas Highway, but at this time of day, I was happy to take it.
The sound remind me begining of the song of Swedish House Mafia - One (Your Name) from Official Video
Excellent video of them in action. Congratulations on finding 2 together!
I love that man. Stan the man. The timbre of his voice brings back so many good memories.
Santa coming u guys
I forgot to mention that the bars show the available food in each of the food squares. Also, the size of the squares now gets smaller as the food reserves get used up.
Really what did that tell you uhh??????
Motor issue
Maybe try not hold it upside down for starters? HDDs are very sensitive to gravity you know, especially these ones. But yeah these are kinda shit I have 2, they work but sometimes for no reason they start making these horrifying clicky noises and stop spinning for a second and this continues for about a minute... And those are 4TB drives full of unbacked up data! What WD actually produces are heartattacks...
It is upside down, isn't it? That shouldn't make a difference, especially for an external portable device, but didn't even notice that. I'm currently using a 5TB WD Elements drive, which is super quiet and performs very well.
@@Brillig2 pick it up when it's working - it's a confusing experience as the balance keeps shifting while the plates inside it are spining. Like I said HDDs are very sensitive to gravity and these portable WD drives are not well designed on the inside so dropping it or having it experience extra strain as it's spinning due to it being positioned not the way it was intended could very well be causing issues like that - something goes off center and starts rubbing against something else the way it shouldn't. But these do have plenty of factory defects - my older 4TB one is much less fussy than the newer one I bought and the only difference is that half of the newer ones casing is made out of metal while the old one is all plastic. Does this loud one in the video even work? Like get detected by the PC and have the space available? Can you copy stuff to and from it?
@@Liiineeepiiieeeceee It seemed to operate properly. However, with that sound straight out of the box I returned it to the store within a couple hours of purchasing it. I did not move it during operation. I never do that on purpose with hard drives. You can see the cardboard packaging under the drive. It's probably oriented the way it was when I opened the box.
Upside down shouldn’t matter, as many PC cases have hard drive mounts of various designs and place them in all sorts of positions. This drive could even be upside down in the blue casing and you would never know. They are fairly sensitive devices compared to something like an SSD though.
Na man i have same one but it never sounds like that
Yeah, I figure I got a dud - I returned it and got something else.
How did you returned
@@Brillig2how did u returned
@@rugmakrishna5464 I bought it at Fry's when they still existed. Returned it either the same day or the following day.
How cool that they shared that with you.
Very cool, I'm getting dizzy watching these two twirlers!
I only use traps for rats. Never seen a one way door work for them.
It didn't work. Very successful, though, was a deadfall trap.
Man, those crows are so relentless. They can't seem to leave the Red Tailed Hawk alone. It tries flying in different directions. It could just fly in one direction. Surely that hawk is faster than the crows! It can prove that after it gets past the horizon.
did this end up working well? also what was the piece of metal you used? might be building one today! Thanks for the tip!
It did not. My most successful trap to date has been the one where I have a platform held up by magnets. The magnets are attached to the platform on one side of the fulcrum. The rats walk to the other side of the fulcrum. When the weight of the rat exceeds the force the magnets use to hold up the platform, the magnets suddenly let go, dropping the rats into a bucket of water. On the magnet side, the magnets are attracted to a bolt, which can be twisted to fine tune how close it is to the magnets. This adjust how sensitive the pitfall is. I've caught probably about 50 rats this way.
@@Brillig2 Ah ok, thanks Victor. So you don't think this would work as an "exit" for rats eh? Too bad. I may try this one. ruclips.net/video/1gNFdRPF-jw/видео.html
Here's a model of the trap I described. victorspictures.com/p850129420/hcdbb8041#hcdbb8041 The square items are two magnets on opposite sides of a rigid sheet. They serve to attract the bolt as well as to be a counterweight, which resets the trap after a rat is dropped. The rectangular item on the end of the platform is intended to be bait. I usually just smear peanut butter there. The nut is attached to the wood. The bolt is rotated through the nut to adjust the distance to the magnet in the set position. What I do to adjust it is to put a weight about equal to a rat on the platform and then screw the bolt until the platform falls. Then it's at just the right strength.

n other words, the left switch is a PAD, cutting the entire signal for recording loud sound. The right switch is a cut filter, that affects only certain frequencies. It has nothing to do with left and right channels. It is left and right switches.
There are two switches, a left switch and a right switch. One controls level. The other is a cut filter. Both are symmetrical to both channels.
How come you cut the Rode mic -10db left & no cut on right? would it be better to symmetrical level on it? like both -10db?
Dunno - as I recall, I was just trying all combinations I could think of.
Yeah. That's one of the reasons I wanted him to play this game. ;-)

I see. I don't think I've ever recorded them playing the full version.
Thanks for the note. I knew it's her fanfare, but just wondered if you'd ever done an extended version of that tune, as it seems to translate very well to a big band arrangement. As you may know, Maurice White, the lead singer for Earth, Wind & Fire had been the drummer for the Ramsey Lewis Trio on a few tours & LP's. Thanks for the great tunes on your web page. Looking forward to catching a show when I'm in Austin next.
It is just a way to introduce Courtney to the stage.
Great arrangement of Shining Star. Hoping to hear the full version, unless it's just a bumper for Courtney's stage show. Thanks for being a big band!!
Great sound demo, thanks for all of the detailed notes on-screen and in your video's side bar. Kat & trio sound great. I look forward to hearing them live or buying a CD. Info please!
Don't you hate it when sound or image quality is "auto improved" ..just when you wanted the raw suiting sound.
Yes. The sound is actually being transmitted through the lens housing and camera body to the internal microphone. If you use an external microphone, even one mounted on the flash hotshoe, the IS motor noise is usually not audible.
lol i don't think these people understand the point of the video. thanks for the vid.
The text isn't blocking anything. LISTEN for the motor noise. That is the IS motor. Also, when there is no text displayed, look for the image shifting suddenly. That is the result of the IS recentering itself. This was really a throwaway clip, but I thought it would be useful to show what happens when you use IS.
can't tell what it's doing
