All tell of the past and may speak of heroic deeds, heartfelt emotions, or great tragedies. Personal histories often become forgotten, but some survive in local lore, a...

I’m 65, I’ve been here my entire life, save three years in my youth serving in our Army, and I’ve never heard tell of those little furry people. My mother is 87, and she has never heard of them. I can’t inquire of any of my older ancestors dating back to 1637 in NH, but I’m pretty confident…they’d not report any knowledge either. 😎 Most gracious of the Mrs., to add the blue lady to this story. 👍🏻

Really enjoying these sites you are so kind to bring us. Undeniably, NH is profoundly rich in the history of our republic and the sites are virtually endless…okay, perhaps that’s a stretch of reality. 😉 My wife and I did stop at the Marsh Massacre site to pay our respects and did so, on the eve of the attack and massacre, three hundred and thirty three years distant. I’ve lived in NH for all but three of my 65 years, the Army didn’t have a work from home program 😉, and my family in my mothers side, have been in NH since about 1637, still, I had no idea that site existed…in spite of growing up and living on the seacoast! And would never have known, but for your wonderful videos. Thank you gentlemen…Dr. Bartlett will not soon be forgotten!

Excellent episode gentlemen!! Let’s talk War between the States, War of Rebellion, civil war, War of Northern Aggression…and so on. The War for Southern Independence was of course, four years of hell in America. But gentlemen, there was no first day of the battle of Antietam.., because it was a one day battle. Remembered not so affectionately as, the single bloodiest day of fighting in American history. September 17, 1862. Battles during that war were documented differently by the federal and Confederate armies. Federal commanders tended to name battles after rivers of note. Confederates documented them based on major towns in the area. The south called it the battle of Manassas, while Yankees called it, the battle of bull run. Keep them coming guys!!

Thanks for your comment and your insight on the Battle of Antietam. Robert was a member of the 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters, 3ed Company New Hampshire. I have been unable to find any information on how he took down the flag?

I was hoping for a few shots of the mountain and the rock that divided the slide.

This was one of our first attempts at this; sometime in the future, we may go back and do it again. We wanted a shot of the rock; however, the path was covered in ice, and we were reluctant to make the walk. Thanks for your comment.

I find it fitting that a Paper Birch, New Hampshire's state tree, is growing from his resting place.

My mom lived by this for a few years. It was before they cleaned it up. It was super creepy, and didn't like walking past it when I would play in the marsh.

I have visited many times. The first time I went I found it immediately -- as if Minik was calling me. Read the book, "Give Me My Father's Body" by Kenn Harper. The Museum of Natural History should return the Peary Meteorite back to Greenland -- they took down Teddy Roosevelts statue but still keep this symbol of colonialism. Hypocrites! The grave is easy to spot -- its along the back wall -- look for momentos on the foot stone.
