Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham development footage 1950's
Brilliant old footage 👍
What made it one of the great educational centres of the empire? Or is that just hyperbole?
Amazing piece of film
Ii still think It is a Super Town to live in.!!! Proud Cheltonian.
During the building of Hesters Way I used to pedal my Philips Kingfisher to there from Windsor Street to Go "" Lorry Spotting"" as the building materials were delivered.... Better than school at Dunalley.!!!! Happy Days... Douglas Vick Cheltenham Spa.!!!!!!!!
Hi Nik, I'm working on a film for the BBC. Your archive footage of Cheltenham is amazing. Would it be fine for you to email me. Simon@simonorman.co.uk - we'd love to hear if you own it or might be interested in licensing it?
Thank you, it's amazing.
Glad to say it was saved!
Jason Belne is a friend of mine. I, along with one of Jason's friend and one of my friends, also used to go autograph hunting with Jason back in the day. We got to know Noel Edmonds quite well and we met so many famous people. Happy days! xxx :-)
This was my husband's favourite pub for years.....Jack mayall
I had a copy of this without the timecode over the screen but never backed it up sadly before the tape went bad.
1:05:19 If you want to destroy a Klingon spaceship...please dial "one". If you want yet another view of Uhura's underwear...please dial "two".
28:11 Noel fancies Maggie!
Thanking for sharing, seems like yesterday that I was watching this!
wont beat tiswas
I used to flick between the two every 10 minutes..But, yeah, ur right
Really enjoyed this, thanks so much for uploading
The following week, the very last episode of Tiswas was broadcast. In the space of 7 days an era of Saturday morning TV really did come to a close!
Noel has always involved himself in clean cut positive ventures and I for one think he's a great bloke.
Space Cake for a beer? Swapsies?
I loved this show as a kid and honestly, i don't think I missed one episode. It was a terrific idea in the first place and a wonderful way to get kids involved ... and get us up on a Sat morning. We didn't have money to splash around, so it was a way of getting our hands on new or old, exciting toys an other stuff besides. Now as for Noel Edmonds, he's come in for a lot of stick over the years, but whatever you may think of his beliefs today ... and lets be honest, they're not for everyone, I think you have to concede that he was a terrific host on this show. Just watch and listen to the way he talks and interacts with the kids on the phone. He doesn't talk down to them, he's not making fun of them, in any snide kind of way. He's engaging, polite and completely professional ... and entertaining. The whole team, Maggie, John and Keith ( much missed) worked so well together and were a joy to watch.
Can't forget that phone number...
R.I.P Keith Chegwin. A legend lost
Very Sad News about Keith Chegwin Used to watch Swap Shop and Cheggers Plays Pop R.I.P Cheggers
I’m with you his lovely larger than life generous personality was infectious and love how he fell in love and married his co star Maggie(they share a daughter). Loved Cheggers plays pop too
I used to also like Chuggers Plays Pop
Irony with Columbia
Ice skates with blade guards spelt G U A R D S !!!!
That's how you spell it. How else would you spell it?
Saturday was ours........ at least until the old man took over the rest of the day with grandstand.
I miss the old $WAP $HOP back in 2007 now in 2017 it's more... boring... over here in Fort Lauderdale Florida
David Bellamy, "gwapple my gwapenuts" brilliant, happy days indeed.
I went to the very first Swaporama in 1977 with Keith Chegwin.
1982
Ahh, the nostalgia. amazing no to see what kids had to swap and what they wanted, such simple things....a queen tape. Thanks for the upload.
That theme tune is awful!
Now we have dull cooking programmes
Well yes, but that's because kids have a BBC (and ITV) channel all to themselves now.
on a postcard lol
Was ok but compared to Tiswas it was utter crap
used to flip over during the ads
Maybe, if your idea of fun was chucking things at people. Mine wasn't.
I don't remember this theme....which means my brother and I had turned over to Tizwas some months or even years earlier. As soon as Tizwas started lots of people changed to that I think. Swap Shop had become a little dull.
Tiswas started in Jan 1974 whereas Swap Shop wasn't on air till Oct 1976. However Tiswas was only on ATV in the midlands for the first few years and then gradually other regions picked up on it, I think HTV was the first.
Tiswas started two years before Swap Shop.
Someone bothered to record this moronic program, but nowhere on RUclips can I find an entire episode of Channel 4s philosophy program Voices from the 1980s.
yeah coz this was great for kids
You can watch it on More4 here: www.channel4.com/programmes/voices
You must be even more moronic for seeking out such a programme on youtube that you describe as moronic and then comment on it.
Weird thing is, Noel hasn't changed all that much since then. Still looks much the same.
Its called looking after yourself.
Yeah, half his face is beard.
Looks much the same, but rapidly heading for the full David Icke.
eBay's Great great granddad I liked it better than ITV
cant figure out maggie philbin's words on b a robertson's song spring has sprung. reminds me of 1982 1983 sunny weather and before mobile phones killed so much of the life we used to have . maybe people are happier without sex drives that modern day tv's and mobiles take away
I've got the same 'phone as Penelope!! Mine's in dark green and still works. My two nephew's think it's a hoot...especially when they try to dial out and have to turn the dial...
Absolutely wonderful to see! Thank you so much for sharing.
Vintage Saturday morning tv such ashame isn't the same anymore. Swap Shop, Super Store, Going Live and Live and Kicking were different in their own way whichever era you grew up in. Saw Swap Shop towards the end but my memories were more Super Store and Going Live.
Thanks for the upload!!!
Dam I was after size 5 ice skates
I lived in Ireland at the time time of swap shop, what pissed me off was I could not call the show, like the UK kids could.
Thanks for posting this. I have been trying to get hold of this for years! I was told the BBC had erased their copies. I am however somewhat mortified at how shy I was at 14 years old!
Just watched this for the first time since it actually went out live. Used to love Swap Shop. Did you get Paul Newmans autograph from his secretary ? Do you still have them all?
Paul Newman apparently refused to sign autographs (as a result of someone asking him while he was going to the toilet), which is why I asked for him. I got a beautiful 10x8 signed photo, AND a very nice letter from him, both of which are treasured possessions. I still have all the autographs, and photos of me with the celebrities I met. I only did it for a couple of years. I found other ways to amuse myself in my later teenage years! But I have some great memories, met some incredible people and have wonderful stories. Here is a link to an album with some of the pictures: facebook.com/media/set/edit/a.49344252395.72868.579127395/
That's brilliant. It brought so many memories back watching that last episode again. Have you seen or spoken to Noel since then and reminded him of that day? I bet your autograph collection is quite valuable now 😀
platty1967 I saw Noel a couple of months ago. I was having dinner in The Ivy Club and he came in with a group of friends. I considered saying hello but it was so long ago, I wasn't sure he would remember me, plus unlike my teenage self, felt bad interrupting him in the middle of a private dinner. Not sure how valuable the autographs are. To be honest I don't think I'd ever want to sell them so it's irrelevant.
No I agree. I wouldn't sell them if I were you. It's a shame you didn't go and speak to Noel, I think he would have remembered you being the last show! Take care Jason. Nice speaking with you 😀
Much as I like BA Robertson, his theme tune wasn't a patch on the original.
Did you know BA stood for bloody awful?
What p****** me off is the fact the original recordings of these were wiped! Why? I was born in 1974, remember Swapshop near the end of the 70's. Everything onwards from the 80's, 90's etc. What do the kids have now? Nothing but weird cartoons that seem to be made by people who are on LSD or something lol. I miss the old days so much :(
Yeh, what do kids these days do without light entertainers rummaging in their pants?
