The Only Accurate Test of LizardSkin on YouTube

This is the first of multiple LizardSkin Ceramic Insulation tests we are going to do. An infrared thermometer is not an accurate way to assess this products performance. I hung a bluetooth thermometer in the coated and uncoated tanks and checked the ambient temperature inside the tank as opposed to a surface test.

Power Rake/Harley Rake: Are You Doing it Wrong?
all bullshit. cat doesn't build their attachments and I have had cat stuff and it broke.
I have ran 259’s for years just upgraded to a 255 i never had a set of tracks run less than 800 hours a lot has to do with operator and enviroment you pick
Good video
Might can pick up more just move in lil closer more leverage
mulching all day and my ac stops after i just fixed it
oddly enough if i were trying out a machine, a rental or used one would give me a better idea of what the machine would be... though new is always nice...
4000 hrs out of the 287 Owner operator and three point turns Tracks like that come back to operator
First thing I did was grease those cab bolts. Made it so much easier!
Honestly do any oil will work with you don't have to go buy off those specs what they say you'll be fine just proper maintenance and also you don't have to cut the oil filters either if you have good intervals like at 12 k or 15 you'll be fine
Painting it black, makes no sense. Measuring outside temp, also makes no sense.
Wish it was so easy here in Sweden. I would not mind doin the ol changes but how things are setup here in Sweden, and many countries within the EU. Is that you have to come into a certified shop (dealership), to do the oil changes and service or the warranty voids. To add to that, there are many things one can do to modify, but most of them will void warranty. Really sucks. Thank you for good video.
Good video. I love the 5X. Have had several bike racks for the five of us and when the last one bent outside Sequoia, finally ordered the Velocirax and couldn’t be happier. We camped in Yosemite for a week with it on a Honda Odyssey with the largest Thule roof box on top and it worked great.
How do you keep the bottom of your truck so clean?
First 100 hours on my 299D3 XE Land Management and I agree it tips forward especially on a small down hill grade with my mulching head on it. My questions are does anyone feel like the front door is very cheap and flimsy? I wipe the windshield off with paper towels and my wife said my hand was coming out the bottom. I can stick my whole hand out the bottom of door. Also I only get one station on the radio. Anyone have problems with the radio?
Yeah I really don't like the cup holder and I'm either can only fit a 16 oz water bottle in there I cannot fit my coffee cup in there if you don't have a fire extinguisher though you have to package with the fire extinguisher holder you can get it 40 oz and nalgene bottle with a source tactical hydration straw
We were the couple from Canada with the red miniature bull terrier
I bought the Can Am pre maintenance plan for $2800...48 months of all recommended service because of this video!
Wow! I hope you get your money out of that investment. I'm glad you found it helpful.
@@theMTNman just noticed a typo...$2800 but still expensive
Lmao!! 😂
Did I see you at teddy roosevelt national park north unit july 2023
Yes you did! Thanks for watching and say hello the next time.
Wouldn't it be a more valid test if you used a thermometer to check the temperature of the liquid inside the tanks? The tank itself will heat up in the sunlight. Is that temerature getting through to the fuel? Please get a thermometer. You are concerned about the fuel temp, not the outside of the tank.
You might have a valid point. There was a thermometer in the tank, but it was only checking the ambient temperature. I figured if the ambient temperature would correlate with the fuel temperature.
@@theMTNman only one way to find out for certain. Hope you see it throughl and make a video. If no different, it would make me rethink my suggestion. The sun is powerful.
After spending 42 years operating heavy equipment, and now retired, I will say that Cat went from the pinnacle of equipment to almost trash. I've had younger operators argue with me about that, insisting that Cat has the BEST SUPPORT, and I would answer Yes and they need it. You pay for a name with Cat.
I do get excellent support from my dealership and I have 800 hours on my machine with essentially no issues. I plan to make a video soon reviewing the problems I have experienced, but the tracks were by far my biggest disappointment. Everyone says you pay for the name, but I have compared most of brands either by renting, demoing, or owning. I initially didn't want a CAT but ended up with one and I've been happy with it. CAT gave me a better price than practically all their competitors. Watch my initial review video if you get a chance and I explain my entire experience with CTLs and how I ended up with a CAT. Thanks for watching.
@@theMTNman Thankyou for the reply. Stay safe
The UV is much different now than it was. Indrect sun will take longer to tan, but once you have a little more color then you can increase exposure. My neighbor just passed and had skin cancer cut from him a few times before he died. Please take of your skin if you don't want that Florida leather skin damage. Sorry for the Daren moment.
I've had skin cancer and appreciate your concern. We were at the lake and she wanted some vitamin D.
So are the blades reversible with two cutting edges or no?
They are reversible. It's a very easy process and I couldn't believe the difference after turning them over to the unworn side. I had forgotten how good this thing performs. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video man!
Thanks for watching, hope it was helpful.
Nice
Thanks
Love this MACHINE 299D3,=CAT SKID STEER., JOHN BUY❤❤😂😂
I've been happy with it, hope to do another review soon.
pro tip. you need to b able to do light grading with it FIRST. Use the bucket tilt function to shave areas and get it to grade First... Wasting time otherwise skimming a ungraded area. With a Seasoned operator are a Very Efficient finishing tool
I agree with your comment; this area wasn't intended to be a lawn, just a natural area. Just trying to demonstrate another option other than the float function.
Also if you're in a Dusty environment it could get full of dust and you have to do some compressed air to get that dust out on a mulcher head that I would just prefer to leave the front locks on the head unlocked because they get filled full of dirt and then you can't unlock it
good point, thanks for watching.
I have a 306 and a 317. Just picked up a 310, planning on removing the blade this weekend as it doesn’t real ply add any to the lifting capacity. It is also is in the way to dig over your idlers. Forcing you to dig over you sprockets…and that’s rough on the pins. Has any one done this yet?
That is only oil that I use on 2019 Volvo , usually change oil at 20k , 675 k Miles doesn't burn any oil
It's the only oil I have used and I'm changing it at 10k mile intervals or less. That's impressive your truck doesn't use any oil. Mine used close to a gallon in about 10k miles. I thought all the modern emission laden diesel engines were designed to use some oil. I've been concerned mine might use more because it's never loaded heavy enough to really break it in. I'm never heavier than 40k.
Damn , it does take a long time to clean spent 6 hours on mine the other day, i use mask with filters and pool googles. It keeps out of my mouth and eyes.
ha ha, I be you looked hilarious, but it's a good idea. I get filthy when I wash my machine. Thanks for watching!
Multi - Tasking Excavator💛🖤
Oh my EFFING god! The only reason I searched this bumper install is because the damn nuts wouldn’t start on the mounts. This is absolute FUBAR on the part of HERD. I guess I have to grind on mine as well. 😡🤬😡 I’m glad I found your video. I was beginning to lose my mind.
That's disappointing that you had the same issue. I figured it was a fluke with mine. Looks like quality control needs to be improved. The guard has been awesome so far. Everyone thinks it looks great and it doesn't rattle. I like that I can see it from the drivers seat to know where the front of the truck is in tight areas. I hope you enjoy yours and you never need to use it. I thought I was going to test mine on a deer, thankfully he got out of the way before I hit him.
The lock on the window, is to hold the window open at the point you open it.. My 330G John Deere has the same two way windows, and the window lock.. I too can hook up hydraulic lines with the machine running.. The 330G has lots of options like high flow or standard flow, auto bucket leveling, the option of changing the controls from ISO or H pattern auto reversing engine fan, the option to slow down the travel to snail movement if you are doing something touchy.. There are so many more heat/AC vents on the 330G or the 332G, which is a track machine.. The Deere machines are so much easier to service than the Cat.. Changing the oil and fuel filters on the Cat is fairly tight being back in that hole.. The Deere has automatic idle if you stop for like five seconds, then when you touch the control again it comes back up to where the throttle is set on the control.. The 330G and the 332G have ride control that lets the loader arms float a little when going over rough ground.. The Deere machines are equipped with a back up camera and a blue tooth radio.. (not all are so equipped) The Deere machines are also rated to pick up more than the Cat.. Thank you for the great review of your Cat machine.. I hope it gives you many hours of service..
Thanks! I'm glad you like your JD. I chose JD over CAT when I purchased my first CTL, didn't work out this time. I don't recall how thoroughly I covered the features on mine, but it sounds like they have the same features other than auto idle and I'm not sure if I can change my controls. JD will definitely lift more than CAT, but servicing the 299 is super easy. Watch my service video and let me know if yours is easier. I think the smaller CAT machines are tighter.
Boil a big pot of water, turn the flame off, drop hose in for 5 minutes, remove and hold straight.
What happened to the next video of your bed build?
I'm asking myself the same question 😳. I have been slammed recently and haven't had a chance to work on it. I appreciate you watching and I hope to have an update at some point. I've got a lot of dreams for this truck, just going to take a while and the economy needs to improve. It's incredible that stuff cost 4x as much as it did 4 years ago.
I charge $150 to clean every time a customer brings me a dirty SXS, it takes a long time to really clean SXSs, especially a Can-Am. To do good quality work the machine needs to be very clean. I’m sure no customer would appreciate dirt getting into the front differential when the axle is removed for replacement. Also, a deep clean regularly is a part of any good maintenance plan.
Watch my oil change video and you will quickly see that I'm a firm believer in things being clean. I clean the machine regularly and I avoid mud and dusty conditions if at all possible. I'm glad you can get $150 to clean a machine, but I will promise you their $150 wash would be nothing more than a spray down with a pressure washer. It would take 5 minutes to wipe down the areas surrounding the dif and they would be cleaner than if you used a pressure washer.
Change all to Amsoil...Thank me later. Defenders are very short lived here in New Zealand. We claim around 67% of all world warrantys but sell less than 1% of B.R.P's world production. Gearboxes self destruct, gear shift cable breaks, gear shift lever gating weld failure (just weld or replace), Engine very prone to dusting, steering racks failure, front diffs blowing, Timing chain tensioner failure leading to oil leak (around 300 hrs) All this and more within 2 years. Beyond that chassis crack, Engine dusting. The speedo cluster dies after hrs exceeded. Get rid of that filter and plumb in a Racor Snapp water trap sediment filter... thank me later.
What brand do you guys have the best luck with there? I'm a huge Kawasaki fan, but at the time they didn't make anything with the features of the defender.
333g try that one let us know.
I hear they are strong machines. Used 332 for a bit and liked it, but not as well as the CAT. In the early 2000's CATs were the dog of the bunch, and now I believe they are the best overall machine. Other brands are going to do certain things better, but when you consider everything it is definitely one of the best.
Man great video!
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful.
Thanks for the info. I am currently in the process of closing on 145ac north of Knoxville. Looks like you’re a couple years ahead of me on your project. I would love to pick your brain and on your experience thus far.
I'm not sure how we could connect. RUclips won't let you put contact info in the comments. I tried to sell something on here and it was a nightmare.
That oil filter is why I will never own a can am
Engineers clearly aren't mechanics.
Looks good, i need to put something on my hot ass camper truck and regular paint doesn't do shit. This might be the best stuff available.
Your application is more what it was intended for. I think they make it in white too which should be even cooler. I spent a lot of time discussing this project with the manufacturers and so far I have been satisfied. We just took a trip out west in 100+ temps and the truck ran flawlessly.
BRP was definitely not thinking about the customer on this. Oil change one thing, removing the panels behind the seat completely stupid. I just did mine, not knocking your video. Any advice on how to keep dust from coming in the back doors? I know it's not a Ford pickup but there are gaskets around the doors, they just don't do much.
I have had to adjust my doors several times to get them to seal sufficiently. They are pretty tight now and I don't notice a lot of dust entering the cab.
It's a rubber compounding issue at the Camso factory, I'm sure of it. Every single Camso track I've had, has split on the *inside* of the track right around 500hrs. That's across 4 different machines of different brands. I replace them with Bridgestone tracks, and never have a problem again.
I will keep that in mind when I buy another set. I recently learned CAT has 2 grades of tracks. I'm sure the cheaper version comes on the machines from the factory. I'm curious who makes the higher end version because my dealership offers by one get one free occasionally.
Cat excavators are great with plenty of technology and engineering but the skid steers are the opposite stuck in time, bad engineering and no advancement. I recommend John Deere skid steers. 😊😊😊
I hope this thing pulls good because the engineering of the install process is completely thoughtless. Paper instructions are useless past the inventory, and the install video from the manufacturer is completely different. Gotta know now why they have their comments turned off.
I think it's a solid hitch. Have you had a chance to use yours?
Petty things imho….
I agree, that's why I posted the video. 1st world problems are typically petty.
There is a reason that tank is a shiny silver color, keeps the diesel cooler!
Yep and I'm trying to create a better mousetrap to achieve a particular look. Spent a lot of time researching this process and discussing it with the manufacturers, and so far it's performing well.
Only can am would make it this difficult to do a basic oil change. I’ve had several Polaris and can am machines and Polaris is by far superior for DIY maintenance.
In your experience which brand is more reliable? It is most definitely a thoughtless design feature, and I feel confident that most dealerships don't remove the panels. Because the dealerships I asked said some mechanics remove them and some don't.
Here is a document from Prevost which is a Volvo company that provides you all the info on the oil requirements for the 2023 engine.
