David Austin Roses: How I decided my 2021 Order!
I know this video is 3 years old, but I still hope to get an answer for my question. Can I plant small autumn joy sedum in Fall? We are in zone 8A, November. It’s kind of warm around noon, but chilly at night. I have small Autumn Joy Sedum delivered to me in 3” pots. Still don’t know what should I do? Plant? Keep in the basement? 🤔
Love watching u garden
I like the cardboard idea.
Sweet little granddaughter and flower bed!!! ❤❤❤
You are so kind
It’s a shame about the annoying music which made it difficult to listen to, what otherwise would have been, a very interesting project
Thank you for your feedback. I will try to do better with my editing in the future. Thanks for watching.
I couldn’t really hear you. The music was so loud. Was there a dress code for dinner?
No. You go down to the basement "pub" and order. Sometimes they do hold special events with a dress code, but not the weekend we were there.
Can you do an update on the clearance hydrangeas you planted a few years ago, especially the Limelight!! Thank you!
Yes. They are doing great!
Yay froggie, RUclips recommendations can't get more random than this
That is a sweet little spot you have there. I love how you mirrored the Heuchera colour to match the tulips. Did you do a follow up video later showing what it looks like? I’m not sure if you ended up finding out the name of the hostas. Here in Australia they’re called Hosta Francee - they have lavender to lilac flowers in Summer.
Yes, I can do a follow up video. Thanks for the idea. The Heurchera don't seem to do as well as the hosta though
Don't know the name of the hosta. My kindergarten teacher friend was Dividing hers from around her pool and most all the teachers in our school have hosta from her. I've divided what I got from her several times.
Gorgeous!❤️

Merry Christmas lol! So exciting to get new plants! 😊
Thanks a lot , very useful video.
How is the fat Albert doing?
Recovering from bad case of bag worms...made a different video about those. Staying smaller like i wanted but still putting on growth each year.
Beautiful! Thanks for the great idea.
how are the hydrangeas doing three years later? thriving??
You could use some plumbers putty strips on the pedestal for leveling purposes because the dirt sinks even with the bricks you have it on. I use a patio stone and some wooden wedges you can place under the concrete for leveling when needed. The plumbers putty is not an adhesive and is pliable even with cold weather so it allows for leveling of gaps and stabilizes the water bowl. ALIEN TAPE DOUBLE SIDED in canadian tire and box hardware stores can be run flat side down around the pedastal base and will work very well. Removable and a little pricey. Again it does not glue it to the bowl...it just makes it more secure and also promotes leveling adjustments. Water bowl does not jiggle if a squirrel jumped on it etc. You can take top off as you would with no problem and it stays on base and I use it over and over from season to season. This is how I do it. I have a vintage large concrete bird bath so lifting and making adjustments are a pain ....the adjustments i have made in the beginning have not required any readjustments.
what to do to prevent the buried portion of the trunk from rotting over time?
You can tar paper the poles or use tar...or set in concrete. we used locust trees which are a hardwood and will last a long time. Since it was for grapes, we didnt want any chemicals near food source. Hope that helps!
What is the best fertilizer for heuchera??
Plant tone by Espoma🦋
Thank you. So beautiful!
Very nice!
Can we see updates on this after it has been planted for a while now?
sad to say...bag worms ate most of Fat Albert before I figured out what was happening. see my video about what happened to my spruce trees...
Can we see updates on these after they have been moved for a while now?
I'm really struggling where to start with gardening and this video was a great help! Thank you.
:) thanks, can you post which company you bought it from.. for the rest of us looking.
Thank you for your comment. I ordered the arbor off of Amazon. here is the link. 1. GO Steel Garden Arch, 7'2'' High x 3'11'' Wide, Garden Arbor for Various Climbing Plant, Outdoor Garden Lawn Backyard a.co/d/0v6QvwZ
Rats! I’ve been saving dryer lint all winter!😔
Put the lint in toilet paper tubes to make fire starters!🔥
@@RosebankFarmGarden Great idea! Been saving those rolls for seed planting too!
There’s a winter heath that blooms in Jan-April. That’s the one I want.
We’re they Rounded Up ?
I planned to get one of these thorn-less rose vine in coming spring replacing existing one with wild thorn in our garden-arbor. I enjoyed your video thoroughly,
Thank you for your lovely comment. I hope your Zepherine Drouhin roses do well for you when you get them planted.
@@RosebankFarmGarden One more question:does it grow well in Zone 7 (Chicago area)? I am worried whether it would handle negative temperature during winter.
I am zone 6 so those temps are lower than a zone 7 and mine are doing amazing. One thing I do to winterize my roses is to pile Maple tree leaves around the roots and crown of the plants. You can also buy rose collars ( got mine on Amazon) or use stakes and burlap around the roses. Hope that helps. Good Luck!
Loved it !!
Thank you for your sharing....It's so helpful! I've a question. My plan is to use branches pruned from the Cedar and Fir Trees. Is it necessary to take all the bark off? My structure will be to support a tarp throughout Winter.
If it is a temporary structure you can leave the bark on. More permanent structures should have the bark removed for a variety of reasons: bark beetles, last longer, it will just crumble and fall off anyway... hope that helps. Good luck!
Good👍
such funny...and helpful kids .
Good👍👍 🙏🙏
Best wishes for your trees! Thank you for sharing this informative video
Thank you for showing the process multiple times!! Every other video I have to pause a few times to make sure I'm getting it right.
I had fun making the video but I really made it so I could remember how to fold my beach towels after a long winter of not using them...lol.
Do you fertilize these every year after planting? I put 3 of these in my front, right along the front of our porch but they’re struggling. 2 are yellowing and not producing much. Not sure if I should fertilize or water more?? Thanks! Oh and they get full sun until late afternoon/ evening.
I fertilize mine with rose tone by Espoma every Spring. for the yellowing...that can be caused by overwatering, poor drainage, or a nutrition deficiency. If you think it is nutrition, try nitrogen and chelated iron to green up the leaves. Hope this helps. I really love the compact shape and color of the mini mauvette!
@@RosebankFarmGarden ok I’ll try the nitrogen and iron. Thanks
I love all the color varieties of Heuchera, but I don't care for hostas because they always seem to get damaged by slugs.
True, I apply slug bait when I remember to. and I love the Heurchera for shade plants! Happy Gardening!
It doesn't work I thought it did but 2 copper heads were in my yard after spreading it and they ran into the bushes were it just was spreaded!
Wow! Scary, especially poisonous copperheads. I used it last year, reapplying after rain and I didnt see anymore snakes the rest of the summer. I havent used it this year and have only seen one black rat snake, outside. lol.
They are beautiful plants!!!
Thank you. Found out the slugs like them too! Have to slug and snail bait around the one that is left!
Calm down there buddy, it's a push fit not a twist fit. I put the hose and some ice water for a minute and it popped right in 👌
Great tip!
Why would you put the hose in ice water instead of boiling water. Do you want it stiffer or softer?
Thank you for sharing this! Great video! Are there any sprays we should avoid? I was thinking of spraying my bird houses to help protect them from weather. I don't know what sprays will be harmful to birds.
Thanks for the video. Glad to see you teasing the roots out, so many people don't that. I bought 9 of these at 60 dollars each and planted them along a chain link fence line 4 feet apart. Used Espoma Bio-Tone Starter Plus mixed with dirt on the bottom of the hole and added it to the back fill dirt also. I may plant low growing perennials between them in the near future.
Thanks for the comment! I can just picture how beautiful your fence will look as they fill in! I am trying sunpatients this year between boxwoods near the flowerbed in the video. What plants are you going to use?
1:17 is where it starts
That is beautiful Clematis, purple I have the pink, new Subscriber here. Super cute helper as well.
Thank you! I've been working on training it better this year. The clematis seems to want to grow and tangle in on itself instead of growing up the arbor. So many more buds this year!
Hello, may I have the link of the curly Q pigtail, I am looking for it to tie my arbor but I can’t find exact its name. Thanks
It is a spiral anchor or ground screw anchor twist stake. They can also be found in the camping section. Sorry I dont have a link, they were old tent stakes we repurposed to hold down the arbor. Hope that helps!
@@RosebankFarmGarden great, thank you
I love how you are showing your grand babies how to plant and also making great memories.❤ Great video. #new subscriber.
Thank you! They are my ❤!
how much was fat albert?
I believe it was $114. from our local Lowes.
@@RosebankFarmGarden thanks! I just went to local nursery and some were near $300, sticker shock !! I like the fat albert idea, nice!
@@bigredd1574 Wow! We planted Fat Albert before Covid...everything seems to cost more now!
@@RosebankFarmGarden I was stunned! I will look around other places but looks like definite big price increases.
I just bought a PW Wildberry Heuchera today and planted it under my catalpa tree, but it’s just now waking up so there is quite a bit of sun there right now. The catalpa tree is the only thing I have left in my flower garden from the previous owner and I can’t say that I love it.
Catalpha trees are messy with their white flowers dropping everywhere. We have our trampoline somewhat under the canopy so the grandkids have to sweep all the time before they jump. But I really love the Wildberry heurchera and hosta around the base. Best of luck with your garden. Thanks for commenting.
thank you so much for taking the time to show us this
