Why did all little kid singers have that odd way of singing? Was it just "the times"? None of them ever sounded like they sang naturally. Even Shirley Temple had an odd way of singing. Alfalfa did too now that I think on it.

Yeah, the song was pretty weird, especially with the lyrics, for a kid to sing.
Because even though it’s a love song they wanted him to sound tough as he sand it.
Are you ruining the charm and comedy of it? That was part of the magic. Off key, pitchy and natural. Were you guys hoping for a Hollywood version with perfect happy children singing on key? You know little about the genius of Hal Roach.

As nice as your guitar playing is...I really just wanted to hear him the way I originally watched it as a kid. No disrespect.
It's hard to believe that offscreen, Tommy "Butch" Bond and Sidney "Woim" Kibrick were the chill ones and Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer was the sadistic hellraiser who couldn't get out of his own way and whose twisted sense of entitlement, combined with anger from aging out of his signature role and financial desperation led directly to his demise at 31. Sad.
I was so surprised when I watched Alfafa’s ‘E Mysteries whe Scandals’. He was a real asshole as a kid, and it continued to adult hood, ultimately resulting in his death!
@@DeeNice681, I saw that, too. Child actors in the days of Hal Roach had very little recourse when they were wronged. Switzer became the sole breadwinner in his family. That wasn't fair for a kid his age. He could have benefitted from pediatric psychotherapy. Also, child labor laws were still a bit lax then and now certain politicians want to roll them back.
Yes Alfalfa was really the bully of the group. He played some really nasty gags on the rest of the kids. He cut Darla's hand with a razor blade and peed on the stage lights during lunch so they would stink when they turn them back on. They were filming a movie and he would last up every take because they were hanging onto the back of a truck going down the road. Finally Darla got so sick she passed out from the exhaust fumes.
You play a fine chord melody rendition of this beautiful standard. That modulated middle part can be difficult, and you did it well. Some people don't realize how much practice and dedication it takes to play like this -- but I do! I have an Eastman AR580CE-HB that I love. Eastman guitars are impressive for many reasons.
Hi Waldo, thanks for the kind words. I have always been fascinated by chord motion on the guitar and try my best to make sensible arrangements. I'm really happy with my Eastman. The AR580 is a fine instrument. I know some traditionalist look askance at Eastmans, but they are great guitars.

Excellent playing. I feel the same way and I'm from Canada. My friend Richie Havens was from Bedford Stuyvesant and I spent a lot of time in NYC and then touring the Midwest in the 60s.
Why does it keep cutting in and out? You can not listen to music that way.
Thanks for commenting. It cuts in and out because I originally recorded all of this for Instagram posts and I just edited all of the videos together, you'll see I mentioned that in my description.

@xXSwizXx WO HOP . i've been going there since the 1960's. there are two of them. one is upstairs & the other one is downstairs. they're located on 15 & 17 MOTT ST. between mosco st. & chaham square. i usually eat the beef chow fun. things have changed for the worsr since then. worst of all the movie theaters have gone. enjoy.

beautiful vid. filled with good ny humor. a true tribute to one of the great historic sites in ny chinatown -- violation ridden, to be sure, but the only place to go. i've only been to the new place just once, right after they opened. their baked bao (roast pork bun), which was always the main attraction for me, was atrocious. just a sad, sad reminder of the formerly great, and aparently gone forever, king of the most delicious baked bao of all time. alas! looking for recipes to make my own...
