Tom Petty went down swinging. He finished his 40 year anniversary tour with a hip that needed surgery. He was in a lot more pain than people knew. I saw outtake footage of him in between songs going over and leaning on the piano and stretching trying to get some relief from the pain. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers albums are top shelf and their live performances are really great. Watch their 30th anniversary concert in Tom’s hometown of Gainesville Florida. They are top musicians and have backed up many other artists and played on their records.🎵

Marty's Telecaster was Clarence White's (one of the B-bender prototype guitars) and Kenny Vaughn is playing a 12 string Rickenbacker that is "on loan" from Roger McGuinn. That means that these two guitars are together on stage again just like they were sometime in the Byrds' 1968-1973 timeframe. Kenny even plays a bit of the "Eight Miles High" opening guitar part in the beginning of this song to further nail the Byrds connection.

There’s no way anyone in that million dollar operation didn’t know what was happening to him. It’s a damn shame to lose such a good man to addiction. Tom was in trouble during this time frame and got himself clean, it’s just too bad Howie couldn’t get his act together too. R.I.P. Tom & Howie 🙏 ✝️

I am 62, grew up on this music and I love everything Tom Petty ever did. I like to take a day off, now and then, smoke a bowl and start the day with this song! Takes me back to when life was better, and things weren't so fuzzy around here.

Oh God I miss Tom Petty! It's still and always will be friggin amazing to watch all his performances. Every one has it's own unique feel. Now,a lot of bands can achieve that accidentally,,different equipment,boredom,or indifference from playing the same song so repetitively. But Tom had a way of applying his personal mood and having it come through in every performance. No wonder he's held in high regards by other artists. He's a true PRO!

I can’t say enough good things about this song and this performance. It may be my favorite TPHB song because of its feel, angst, and drama. Not to overstate it I hope. The one drawback of this video is that it missed some significant guitar that Tom was playing. There were times that Mike was the focus but other guitar sounds could be heard that were fundamental to the song. Don’t get me wrong-Mike Campbell is a brilliant guitarist but Tom could play really well. Unfortunately the video can’t be changed.
