Hmm i think good trick but there is a easier way to get infinite height with griffon. Hard to explain but there is a video called Advanced mount guide where u can see how the trick works.

Now granted should have it broke in 9 days...definitely not but you more then likely got a chain with a defected jump ring...not any real defect in the chain itself.
