I can’t believe there’s a video about clan wars in 2024 ! Damn I loved this game and have ,dragon, crab and a small yoritomo alliance army, great work on the content.

Where can I buy some of these miniatures?

Scorpion are the Underhand of the Emperor, though. Crane and Lion are the Left and Right hand of the Emperor. I love these guys a lot. I wish I could still find a lot of these models or similar ones to proxy.

Kachiko looks so good.. I am envious. I do have an O-Ushi and Matsu Tsuko though, but I posted my tiger-themed Tsuko. If I can ever find a Kachiko, I will have all three of the OG badass women!

I've watched this a few times already, I still love the scorpion the best. I really like the colors that you used as well.

I about fell out of my chair when I saw a video about Clan Wars!! This is fantastic! I picked up the game about ten years ago, but haven't played it yet. Looks like so much fun! A battle report would be epic!

You’ve definitely got me interested in Clan Wars! I have a hard enough time getting people interested in in-print, supported games that aren’t GW, but I’ll definitely be seeking out more of the AEG models and the rules.

Scorpion are the best!

I love the Scorpion, very fun to play and very annoying to play against! Shosuro Spies are a MUST. By the way, you can create stats for Living Shoju by using the character conversion rules in the back of the 1st Edition rulebook along with the stats and skills from the 1st Edition RPG Way of the Scorpion book. I like that they went with only Undead Shoju, though, as it ties the game to the Clan War era really well… the Scorpion are definitely in their "backfoot" period in this game, barely stronger than a minor clan. I know it is kind of demoralizing to be the only one putting out these videos, but you should know that it is greatly appreciated… this is a great game that deserves more discussion. By the way, who made the hill in the middle? It reminds me of this company that sold hills like that in the early 2000’s (I cant remember the name, but I remember their website had a black background and they also sold other kinds of wargaming terrain).

Man, I really have to get my Crab figures painted up. You've done a nice job with the paint scheme. I feel you about lack of Clan War discussion online... this is really a fun game and I am always surprised how people so quickly move onto the "next big thing" and leave behind classic games like this. Eventually those folks have to get sick of the churn and buying every new game that comes out and reflect on which games they played that were actually worthwhile. Clan War is absolutely on that list for me and I am glad I still have all my minis. In a way, I am even glad that the L5R franchise has finally gone out of print as I never really liked the stuff they came out with after around 1999 or so (and I started with the very first release of the Imperial Edition of the CCG). More people should look back at these classic 90's games and bring them to life like you have. Thanks for the videos.

I would love to see a 1e Crab Expansion review as well! 1e had more units and more options for unit leadership packages as well.

Im working on an army right now; Im mostly using newer plastics for the Samurai since some of the old figures are really hard to find/IMO not quite as nice as the newer models created today. I would love to see this game get an update as Ive lost my old models for the game

Kaze do unit is a good low cost unit for Togashi Yokuni with tattoo liké tiger / lion. Just put it a Shield unit if there are mass bowmen

The Dragon Clan has always been my favorite, ever since I picked up my first deck of L5R cards in 1995 on a trip to Boston (an Imperial Edition Dragon Clan Deck). You should review the Dragon Clan Expansion for 1e as well; I liked the treatment of the Clans in 1st Edition Clan War much more than how Daimyo Edition handled them. One house rule I always use is to give the Agasha Fireblossoms a special rule where any target they damage with the Fire Eggs automatically becomes unformed (disrupted by the sound and smoke of the grenades). Otherwise, the limited range of that unit makes it kind of useless. Dragon Clan also have the best and cheapest Fire shugenja in the game… much better than Phoenix, believe it or not! Lots of really low-cost, decent-Fire Ring shugenjas. The army has a great feel on the table.

1st Edition is better, but DE is a fine game. You didn't mention that the four scenario books follow the timeline of the card game, so you can play the storyline events at the same time with both the CCG expansions and Clan War. There are also a few more minor expansions in the Imperial Herald, but nothing as substantial as these books. Great video. A good solution to the slow movement issue is to double infantry movement in the reserve phase and triple cavalry movement in the reserve phase. Works perfectly and doesn't interfere with any other rules.

Living the dream, I swear. A little advice about table set up, putting terrain in the center of the table like a curtain causes a lot of headaches for movement later on. The best battlefields are wide open in the center… historically, generals would choose their battlefields very carefully, preferring open terrain for maneuver and so that different regiments could support each other's flanks.

Re: Blood Fury The base dice would have been 4. It's *equal* to the Maho Skill or 1/2 Magic to reflect that regular Shugenja are not as skilled in the Maho arts 👍 (You just calculated the Maho wrong in your excitement 😜)

Great video, I've got half a mind to do some Clan War 1e videos to show the differences between that and Daimyo Edition.

I realized I forgot to specify: a full 10 points of damage is needed to inflict 1 wound. Hence 20 points of damage=2 wounds, but 27 points is also only 2 wounds.

Your armies look great. I've only played the CCG, but always wondered about a tabletop wargame.

Excellent video quality, although the sound balance with the music in the beginning was a little off 🤔 I'm commenting as I watch it, so there might not be much after this: 1) The Crab who did a Left-Face shouldn't have had a -1" movement since the Free Simple Maneuver doesn't require a test, correct? 2) FEET! 😜 (during the melee demo) 3) I love that I can feel your excitement while you're clashing the two units together 😌 Overall, a great video; reminiscent of the classic bat-rep videos I fell in love with a little over a decade ago and a good refresher on how to play before I see you across the table 🙂
