Hub Cast - Lightbulb Moments with Andrea Stratton
Great advice. Thank you. I’m doing my first project and very nervous lol. Trying to prepare
I'm sure you'll smash it... looks like you are doing lots of research so you'll be well prepared! Good luck 🤞
Very helpful video. Thanks from Spain 😊.
You are most welcome. We're glad you found it helpful :)
Were the 3d modeling examples you showed drawn by hand?
'Promo sm'
?!
Should I plan out for a few weeks etc?
Different people like to do it different ways. It's always a good idea to have a content schedule if you can, and to plan out in advance, but also to be flexible to change from the plan if you need or want to.
When you "get yourself out there", how do you go about networking etc?
Networking is just about getting yourself in front of people... think of it as making friends within the profession. Trade shows can be great for this, but also just contacting local trades, attending local events, holding a stall at local events and so on :)
@@InteriorDesignersHub thank you for your prompt response. I have trouble with what to say to local trades. How do I express how I can benefit them? I am a "extroverted introvert" & I know that my elevator pitch needs some work. Can you do a video on how to articulate your services to trades, contractors, etc to start establishing a working relationship?
Ah yeah, it can be tricky when it doesn't feel like it's within our natural skill set, but these are all things that can be learned :)Do check out our membership, Hub Insiders, if you'd like some support with your business: www.interiordesignershub.co.uk/hubinsiders @@nesshnessh1
@@InteriorDesignersHub thank you I'll check it out!!
This is soooo helpful. Thank you!
So glad it was helpful for you :)
thank you so much for your help! i would love to ask if its better to work on a single floor plan of a house and then detailing each room alone from that house ? or its better to work on different rooms and random things?
It depends what the client wants. Sometimes it's best to have a whole house concept designed, and then work on a room at a time.
@@InteriorDesignersHub thank you so much but I don't have clients I just want to make a portfolio for univ is it still better to do a whole house?
@@kaoutardergaoui9204 The more you can show, the better it is. But a few things done really well are better than lots of things done not so well :)
@@InteriorDesignersHub thanks a lottt ❤️
This video is pure gold‼️
I'm glad you found it helpful! :)
Love this‼️
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Emily I used to live in Wimbledon for 15 years! - before we moved to Switzerland in 2009 - great area wishing you all the best!!
I'm new in the industry and so much losing the business...but I'm just getting started and need new clients
It can be really tough when you are starting out, but keep going...there is lots of work out there, and you'll find your feet.
@@InteriorDesignersHub I'm in South Africa
Thank you so much for this. I have always known that I want to work in interior design but I always felt stuck when it comes to a portfolio. This helps so much!
You are most welcome! Do check out our website for more helpful resources. We also teach interior design, offer qualifications and help people to set up and run their own businesses ☺️
So good to hear Bryony singing the virtues of finding and connecting with your professional community as a designer - Its easy to feel like an island, and a worry about competition between businesses but what you guys said towards the end was very encouraging as a someone new to the field!
I'm really pleased to hear that, Lucy. Community is so much more powerful than people realise when running a business.
Catching up on the hubcasts finally - I loved Nici's comment about "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Thats how I felt a couple of years ago when I made the leap to interiors from IT!
Ha! yes I loved that comment too :)
Loved this episode Kate :)
Really pleased to hear that. What did you love about this one? :)
@@katehatherell4325 I thought Nicola's story was very inspirational...or maybe aspirational😁
Such an interesting journey Holly has been on. Love hearing everyone's stories ❤️
Even though everyone's stories are so different, there are always some commonalities. The fear of getting started, needing a community... lots of things that hold us all back at the beginning, but can be overcome 😊
Really enjoyed this, thank you!
I'm so pleased!
Fab episode!
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Loved this ❤️ great interview. Really interesting and inspirational 👏🏻
It's such a great story! Still laughing about the idea of Becks having fairy lights and decoration in her military tent in Helmand Province!
Love this!! So inspirational x
Glad you found it useful. Such a great story and journey! x
Thanks for this great vid 😊
You're very welcome! Hope it gives you a good start :)
@@InteriorDesignersHub I took a couple years of an interior design degree and dropped out back in the day so I'm working my way back into this. Currently I'm taking the Interior Design Institutes Certificate Program and that's helping to shake.off the rust. I work full.time though and don't own a house (rent a one bedroom in a quadplex) so there isn't a ton of flexibility with our space. I have made some design changed but the landlord was very specific about what we could change so I was very nervous about doing anything we would have to put back. Looks.like we're going to be here a while though so I'm allowing myself to make larger design decisions. Mostly I'm struggling with prioritizing my homework and design with my 40 hr work week. This month I'm buckling down and I'm going to get my floor plan lesson and sketchup course completed since that will definitely help shake off the rust. I'm going to use your tips about vignettes, testimonials, and creating fake projects from brief to 3D CAD mockup since that will definitely create a solid start for me! I had one free project I was working on before the pandemic but it wasn't completed and I'm not sure my friend still wants to finish it. I'm going to reach out about it though for sure. Thanks!
Nice talk, nice outfit.
great advice!
Glad you found it helpful :)
