I sang this oratorio with my choir in the past. It took us a full two years to study it completely. I can attest that all these 7 songs are extremely difficult to sing. Long phrases with enormous sustain, high notes here and there and we had to forget about passaggio as there are many notes around the tenor passaggio. The 2nd and 6th songs needed lots of stamina..

Great conducting let down by a sub-optimal choir. The sopranos are consistently flat on notes above the staff. The bass sound is almost non-existent. Not convinced of Karajan’s choice for the choir’s formation either. The wide spacing between singers leads to a less cohesive sectional sound. He wouldn’t dare do that with his string sections, would he??

Das habe ich gehört, als mein geliebter Vater seine letzten Minuten bei uns hatte. Ich habe Ihn gepflegt und bis zu seinem letzen Atemzug war ich an seiner Seite mit diesem Requiem….es war so ergreifend und dieser Moment wird mir durch diese Musik für ewig bleiben!!!

Karajan ha sido víctima de sus propias limitaciones Esta muy lejos de Furtwaengler, de Klemperer, de Bohm, de Celibidache, Sus ejecuciones muy cuidadas.,se resienten de una falta de tensión interna, que suple con efectos y contrastes superficiales. Como botón de muestra con la musica barroca de , Bach por ejemplo, no alcanzaba el nivel medio de una ejecución digna. Eso sólo indica una incapacidad para manejarse en un espacio acústico de un complejidad creciente.y

Cuanta paz nos da escuchar estas obras maestras. El inmenso Johannes Bhrams y el grandioso Herbert Von Karajan, coros y solistas de primer orden. Amigos, escuchar y ver estas obras nos hacen creer que aun hay esperanzas.
