What Was That Whoop Sound The Titan II Rocket Made? | Vintage Retrospekt
so it's basically the starter motor, and the rrrRRRRRRRRRRp is the equivalent of the engine turning over?
Very close equivalent yes!
Interesting video!! In an interview Wally Schirra actually mentioned the "whoop" when discussing the first launch attempt of Gemini 6. As he stated..."We went through the countdown, 5, 4, 3 2...then ignition, the engines came up (and he made the "Whoop" noise), but immediately shut down and no liftoff.
So let me know down in the comments what you want part 3 to be!
I'd like to see more obscure details like that in this channel. But you have to skip *more than half* of the video to get the answer :) Good luck nonetheless, happy to know there was actually a retro burn on Freedom 7, thanks !
Underrated channel
Thanks for stopping by!
I am super stoked that I just found your channel. Good luck in the world of RUclips!!
Heads up Crew....Because of the nuance, a 3rd reason why they fired the retro's may have to do with testing the system before the same capsule was to launch an the more capable Atlas rocket, which of course was powerful enough to get the Mercury spacecraft into low Earth orbit. However, this is not totally confirmed so I left this bit out. What do you guys want to see in this mini series? Let me know!
I was going to go out on a limb and comment prior to watching the video; which I'm doing now. However, testing was the PRIMARY reason and making a controlled landing point was the secondary. I'll be interested into what you thought it was; now off to actually watching the video.
OK, I watched it. The "thermal load" issue was because the suborbital flights used a beryllium heatshield instead of the ablative type used on the orbital flights. That was mostly a safety factor issue not the prime reason.
@@robertarnold9815 Hello friend! Yes I had dropped that disclaimer in the comments where I stated I left that part out of the video because I could not confirm if it was primarily for testing reasons. But overall I do get that all the reasons played really well here. Thank for watching!
I also always assumed it was to test the equipment prior to an orbital flight. Good luck with your channel.
Good point, I don't how I missed that, It does look like 3 engines did remain and then the Ship decoupled. but I can't tell for sure with this clip.
Talks about full 33 engine thrust even though he then talks about the engines turning off before stage sep 😂
So do you have any demons?
The P-51 could mount *rockets* not missiles. The difference being that rockets are unguided, while missiles are. Also... I am suprised you did not include a P-51 doing the R2D2 scream. Certain configurations of the radiator would cause this characteristic sound. Lookup P-51 R2D2 on youtube.
I will check it out thank you! I guess my source on the 'missiles' was a bit off. I apologize for that
Totally going to remaster this in 2024. Stay tuned!
Want more plane videos on this channel? Let me know down below!
underrated channel, please keep making videos, you will most certainly reach success, the only thing i can think to suggest improving is doing multiple takes you can splice together so when you mess up your script you can simply splice the video to make it one long continues take without mistakes.
Hey thank you, that means a lot. Do you mean 2 camera angles? I just resume the second take by looking at camera #2? I do this on Orbital Edge News, check it out and let me know if that was the same thing.
Nice vid!
Thanks a bunch!
Had no clue this show was based near me and it was about spaceflight! Nice find
So what other tv shows about space do you find nostalgic?
So who do you think wins in a fight? The Soviet R1 or the American/German V2?
The Flight Termination System triggered on both stages appeared to be planned. The self destruct system had problems on the first flight. There would be no better opportunity to test the improved FTS than on this second test flight. Note that the starship fuel was nearly at zero at the time of detonation. Although it wasn't stated by SpaceX, I think the FTS test was a brilliant plan.
Thank you for adding that! Very interesting indeed.
The double booms at 1:20 were damn impressive. Thanks for providing this footage!
If you enjoy our space pods, please share to those who missed this glorious event.
Stay tuned for the Spacepod version of this!

Eargasm. 🚀
absolutely awesome capture sounds so good
Only sound on left Speakers
Thank you, I did use a stereo mic, but I choose the mono shotgun because it has a more rich sound. It was a tough decision lol
Damn the power of RD-180 shaking your tripod on the left !
SpaceX raptor engines make the same kind of noise, but at shut down.
Any Oppenheimer fans here? Let me know in the comments!
Let me know in the comments if you want to see more vintage spaceflight or Kerbal Space Program gameplay.
So what is your favorite vintage rocket?
I think the early Ariane rockets are really nice, but Atlas is cool too!
I love the Titan 2. The same rocket used for the Gemini program.
Love you vids
thank a bunch!
Apologies for Davinci Resolve corrupting parts of the final cut.
Very interesting
So what would you do to bring back missile row ?
Personally I hope the Space Force Museum keeps CX-14 blockhouse. I recently had my 60th birthday party there. What a spot
Great video, loved it. Brings me back to the 1950's when I was in grade school. Sure, I remember Godzilla and Drive Inn's and Car Hops and rents so cheap that you never saw anyone homeless. Now rents are so greedy and high that USA will look like India where half the folks sleep on the sidewalks at night. If I wasn't below the Poverty Line for a 74 yr old, I would send you some bucks if I had some. In the 1950's they didn't have much hunger. Nowdays we have hunger in the USA, but the government doesn't call it Hunger, they call it "Nutritional Insecurity." Well Hunger is Hunger, not Nutritional Insecurity.
Thank you so much for that! Its great to hear experiences people had during those times. I agree with everything you said. Cheers!
I'm going on a smoke break 💔.
Great 👍 production values 😊
Thank you, always trying to improve !
When doing a gravity turn you need to keep turning. You're basically just flying straight up, fighting against gravity, instead of using it to slingshot you out into space.
very good vid man, definitely looking forward to more of your videos! All the best from Germany!

Wrong title you guys don't speak of Virgine galactic.
Where is your rocket lab missions sticker 😊
A new series coming soon !
A very Kerbal ending 😅💥 +1 sub - the algorithm works!
Indeed! Thank you
