Wow... to be a fly on the wall in a place like that and in that era. Should be a historical warning to the future but we humans never heed history especially in these days...
That place must been really "rocking!" in those days! The depression hit , 1930, and the hotel was losing money. It is suspected that the owner set it on fire to collect the insurance money. So many of those historic wood structures burned down in the past.
AWESOMENESS !!!
Clicked on this because I thought it was a song, stayed because I saw that you're probably new at RUclips. I'm happy I learned something new.
My great great grandfather and his brother were in G Company, 20th Virginia Cavalry, CSA. They were called the Wood County Greys, since most of them were from that area. Both are buried in the Bethany church cemetery on New England Ridge, south of Parkersburg, WV.
My great grandfather Lewis Henry Wentz was in the 3rd cav. He wrote down what he remembered like many other vets. He was from Upshur County
the videos are very beautiful and I congratulate you a lot 📸 have a nice day!
Robert E. Lee raped his horse.
A MAN OF men. 😊
God Bless them. RE Lee is the best person this country (countries?) ever produced. Traveller saw most of the War of Northern Aggression. Amazing.
My Mom, Lorraine 'Simmie' Bryant was born in the home above the Bryant General Store.
some one at the richwood post office has been opening my mail i have the proof im going to file a complaint with the proof see if the criminal pigs know anything in this town im gonna start and go to all their little criminal gatherings at city hall monthly i ask the post office they dont know nothing as usual i have to file a complaint the shit they opened i cant take so they owe me at least 75 bucks
While not liking the computerized voice, I appreciate your posting of that great CHRISTian Patriot and his famous steed.
Do you have the original video with sound?
All of these modern-day pictures make traveler look like a modern day quarterhorse. Hr was a much better looking horse than that.
Wonderful man and wonderful horse!!!!❤❤❤❤
I read the book TRAVELLER by Richard Adams. The Civil War from Traveller's point of view. The book is actually an antiwar book. Innocent animals perishing in a war they did not understand. I cannot remember when I either saw or read the importance of horses in wars. As a narrator said, "they carried the future leaders of the US on their backs." "The cloth on the stick." What Traveller thought of the confederate flag being raised on a pole. I also read when Robert E. Lee's funerial took place, Traveller walked behind the coffin with his head down. Though the statues of Robert E. Lee's have been pulled down, I wish his beloved horse would have remained. Also Cincinnati the beloved of President Grant was greatly beloved.
The horse is a great steed, his owner was a traitor.
Not very knowledgeable about secession, are you?
John suffers from cabbage disease . Stalk to weak to hold the head up !
Lee was not a traitor.
Now that’s a cool war horse
Interesting post war sign. West Virginia wasn't a State until June 20th 1863.
My brother pat lives there mhs rebel class of 69
Lee was made a generous offer after the war by an insurance company for the the use of his name only. The honorable and noble General replied : " I cannot accept payment for services I cannot render", thus politely, but, firmly, turning down the offer. They could not use HIS name...but , there IS a large insurance company in Hartford, CT that was founded many years ago called : "Travelers" Insurance Company........hmmmmm ??
Lincoln's name is used repeatedly for insurance and financial companies.
Onore al generale lee grande generale e uomo .conoscerlo storicamente e conoscere la sua vita è stato un onore.
I hate robot voices. If you are going to do this, do it correctly. Use a human voice idiot.
Beautiful !
I want to give a MASSIVE SHOUT OUT and commemorate with adoration for the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 27th, and 33rd Virginia Infantry regiments and the Rockbridge Artillery Battery... Will always the Immortally remembered for there Dauntless Intrepid and Valorous Deeds in the Field... Proving they were prepared to Engage and Endure Suffering Harm and Injury while Brandishing Courage under conditions where Belligerences were Waging War with Extreme Violence....😊❤️💯🙏
Would always drive through Richwood on my way to trout fishing in Pocahontas County. Beautiful area and Thanks for preserving this special part of West Virginia!
The pronunciation of Bolivar; Catoctin; and Loudon by the computer is killing me. The content and accompanying music along with the photos are excellent.
The information is excellent! The delivery is very monotone.
Lee had to take out Harpers Ferry. He could not leave 14,000 Union troops in his rear, while he attacked Sharpsburg.
I think this was one of Lee's great mistakes of the War. Stonewall Jackson had completed the Capture of Harpers Ferry along with its entire garrison, and tons of Supplies and Cannons. Lee with Longstreet in Maryland could have redeployed to the South and joined Jackson at the Ferry instead of forcing him to double quick all the way to Sharpsburg that set off the bloodiest day in American History. The Maryland Campaign would have then ended with Harpers Ferry and the Valley once again firmly in Confederate hands. Lincoln would have been once again depraved of the victory he was desperately seeking in the East.
Devo did a better robot voice in the 70s.
Traveler was just as great a horse as Secretariat , Man O War, Seabiscuit, Sgt.Reckless and Dan Patch
a man to be admired by 11 year old boys....but not after age 13
That was a nice a story Ted but the grown ups are talking right now

@@tedosmond413 good one.
@@scotfarquharson6836 Thank you. It is good because it is accurate.
The U.S. Postal Service killed the Canvas General Store when they removed the Post Office from the store and built a separate Post Office on Rt 39. Not only did they kill the store, they increased the cost of the Post Office at least 20 fold - and for what???? Is the service any better??? No!!!
One thing about Robert e Lee he was a great southern Irishman and the confederate rebel general of them all I was just wondering if anyone has seen the movie of God and general's Robert Duvall
I don't know if he was of Irish decent, but God's and General was a great movie. I liked it better than Gettysburg.
it 55 and 39
My 5th Great Grandfather, Richard Trotter, was killed in this battle. His wife and my 5th Great Grandmother, Anne (Hennis) (Trotter) Bailey, became a local legend as a result of his death and is buried very near to the Battle of Point Pleasant Memorial in Tu-Endie-Wei Park. She eventually earned the moniker, Mad Anne Bailey, for her later exploits.
I have a figure that I purchased from the Stratford Hall Gift Shop of General Lee and Traveller together. Lee is standing by with Traveller looking over his shoulder. Glad I was able to get this.
God Bless Traveller! This Virginia boy named my horse RELEE
Nothing I despise more than that robotic narration. I have a few words but I’ll take the high road. One thing I can say is Donald Trump on his best day isn’t worth Robert E. Lee’s worst horse on their worst day.
For 20 years I portrayed Gen.Robert E.Lee for the American Civil War Association and road a beautiful dappled Grey named" Lady Hirus" I know what Traveller ment to the General 'cause The Lady ment the world to me! Two years ago I laid some carrots on Travellers grave stone in honor of that beloved horse! Lee until his death was the only one who ride Traveller because of his uncomfortable odd gait...God bless them both! Jim Mrsh American Civil War Association!
They need to contact you to do the narrating, this pics and info are spot on, but it would be so much easier for my imagination to enhance this with a human story teller.
Lol General Lee sir you and that damn horse, not as good as my Little Sorrel, but a decent horse nonetheless
Both Horses were Great and Beautiful General Jackson because gracious and honorable men like yourself and General Lee rode them.
I guess the Ashokan Farewell playing in the background was better than the 1980's era voice synthesizer. If anybody actually takes the time to read Lee's Lost Order for themselves, you may note that nowhere does it direct Stonewall Jackson to Harper's Ferry. Jackson was to take possession of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, capture the garrison at Martinsburg, and intercept escapees from Harpers Ferry. Having accomplished those tasks, he was to rejoin the main army at Boonsboro or Hagerstown. The order directs McClaws and Anderson to take Maryland Heights and endeavor to capture the enemy at Harpers Ferry. Walker is directed to Loudon Heights and to assist McClaws. Loudon Heights and Maryland Heights give artillery command of the town of Harpers Ferry, but the garrison on Bolivar Heights was not under those guns, so you can't capture the place without investing the position from Schoolhouse Ridge, which was the position Jackson took when he arrived from Martinsburg. But who ordered Stonewall to take Harper's Ferry? It wasn't General Lee, according to Special Order 191. It's a very curious thing that usually gets glossed over by park rangers and historians. They focus on the cigars.
This would be so much better with a human narrator.
Pretty area, I always remember seeing that sign when on my way to North Carolina as it is unusual. Now I'll think of this video next time I go, Thanks for sharing.
Summersville loves Trump❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️2020
Woman !! Get to the point already !
They might have fired the first shots at Ft. Sumter but you need to read your history, the Officer in Charge of Sumter was given every opportunity to surrender before the shot was fired. By the way there is a clause in the Constitution giving States the right to succeed. Just sayin.
Truth.
which clause is that exactly?
Forget your argument. Presenting facts to idiots is a waste of time.
You mean secede.
I had plans to go down there and see Cornstalks grave, the battle monument, and of course the Mothman statue. But covid happened....😔 Oh well
I hope you reschedule that trip. It is very interesting, especially if you know the history of the battle and know what you are seeing. When I visited there were no park personnel there to answer questions, because it is a small day-use park. But, I think you can feel the history if you know what occurred there.
