Focused on my adventures of learning off-road motorcycle MX/Cross-Country, trail and track riding with a recap of each day out on various tracks and bikes that I either test, service as a hobby or ride for fun. I am an amateur who rode small mini-bikes around my parents house as a child and owned a few street bikes in my 20's and early 30's. Yet there has been no feeling like the feeling I experience each time I now ride as an adult. I am thankful and blessed that I am healthy enough to continue to do this in my 40's and enjoy sharing my mistakes as well as advances in riding skills with others as I progress trip by trip. I currently own and ride a KTM 300 XC, KTM 350 SX-F and KTM 350 XCF-W Six Days all 2016's. I also briefly owned a YZ250 and a KTM FreeRide 250R while trying to find the best fit for my experience and style. Two videos in this channel show the FreeRide in action.
Drain Ram 2500 Diesel Fuel Tank
I made a really dumb mistake today and pumped 93 octane gasoline into my 2016 Ram 2500 Cummins. Keeping in mind that I am not a mechanic (do this at your own risk) here is how I drained the fuel out of my tank. The only tool you will need is a jumper wire that is about 12 inches long and a transfer tank or buckets to catch the fuel. Yes I know, this was dumb but hopefully my video helps someone.

This short video shows the layout of what I believe to be called the River or Sand track at 3 Palms as of October 2018. 3 Palms also has a main track, GP Track and a couple other smaller tracks in the back. 14:07 for Loctite 2701- TLDR you can use 263 or maybe 271 as substitutes but neither are exactly the same as 2701. Thanks for the vid, got my engine sprocket installed with 44 ft-lbs of tourque using the rear brake to hold it in place.
Instead of 2701 use 263 WOW bang on about where it is used and heaps of other trivial crap. I appreciate that you did this but you could have made a 5min clip. Cheers

I bought the 243 for the fact that it is medium strength. After this lesson, I made the right decision without knowing it. It is even applicable on pneumatic fittings. There is so much information about loctite that I ended up confused. The exact point is deep into the web. Thank you for this guidance.
Thank you for creating this video! Worked like a charm! Saved a lot of time and headache. I filled the whole tank, (30 gallons) with gasoline before realizing it wasn't diesel! Had to drain it in the Gas Station parking lot. This is what I did after watching this very informative video from Jason.... Had someone take me to a local auto parts store, where I had to purchase (See bleow for Parts and Supplies): 6 = (5 gallon gas cans)(or something that will hold at least the estimated amount of combined fuel in the fuel tank). Some soft hose to connect from fuel filter drain down under the vehicle and out to the gas cans or containers. (Make sure you have a good idea of the outside diameter of fuel filter drain hose. Locate the FUEL PUMP Fuse location inside the Fuse Panel Lid or refer to the vehicle manual, pull that fuse. I then purchase a minimum of two Alligator Clip Test Leads, and connect one Alligator Clip to a standard paper clip opened up so you can insert one end into one of the fuse reciever holes, you will have see which hole is the positive side by alternating between the two until you hear the fuel pump running. Then attach the other end of Aligator Clip test lead to the inline fuse holder that I purchased, then take the other Alligator Clip Test Lead and connect to the other side of inline fuse holder with fuse, and the other to the positive side of battery. Now the fuel pump is pulling fuel from the tank into the fuel filter and running out the filter drain into the gas cans or containers. (Make sure to open the fuel filter drain before turning the pump on.) NOTE: Once you connect to the battery the pump will start running, disconnect from battery and the pump will stop. After draining, do not start vehicle, change the fuel filters becuse they will have gas in them. Parts and Supplies Needed: - Fuel Containers, (Gas Cans, 5 gal Buckets, Barrel, etc) - Rags or Paper towels - Optional: Depending on where you are draining the tank, you may need Oil Dri Oil Absorbent or use cardboard or plywood under the drain and under the containers. - Hose that will fit over Fuel Filter Drain - Paper Clip - (unfold paper clip and insert one end into FUEL PUMP Fuse holder) - Alligator Clip Test Leads - Usually comes in a pack with multiple colors - Inline Fuse Holder and Fuse - connect between paper clip and positive side of battery. - New Fuel Filter or Filters depending on the year and model. - Fuel Filter Cap (socket or wrench) to remove cap and put back on. See your user Manual for socket or wrench size. - Container for Diesel Fuel to put back in after draining tank and replacing fuel filters. - Optional Addatives to help lubricate the seals if gasoline has run through the engine already an it started to rough idle or shut off. Hope this information helps!
did you recover from the crash and was able to ride again?
Yes I recovered pretty much 100% and was in good enough shape to go on and break a lot more bones LOL. I jumped back on the bike in late January or early February of that year, I believe. It wouldn’t have been very long after learning about my cast induced injury. I had to have venous ablation (RFA) or radio frequency ablation, where they insert a device into one’s veins and using radio frequency, they heat the vein up until it collapses and fuses together so blood is no longer returned to the heart through the ablated pathway. This stopped the significant swelling that remained far longer than it took for my fracture to recover. Such swelling is the result of small valves inside of the veins which act like a check-valve and prevent blood from flowing backwards in between heart beats. My valves were permanently damaged as a result of swelling inside the cast. I had a nerve velocity test done which showed only minor differences compared to the opposite lower leg, but it’s so negligible that I haven’t noticed it.
That ankle injury was the first of many injuries that occurred during my first 3 years of motocross and it was the least invasive of all. I would go on to break my left wrist, have my right shoulder ripped out of the socket into a posterior dislocation that ripped two ligaments of the bone and though not nearly as severe, I tore up the opposite shoulder which along with the right shoulder and left wrist, required its own surgery. All of which came from a single crash in Colorado you can find on my channel. Another gent hit me from behind at a high rate of speed and ended up knocking him out cold. I then made it quite a while before the most lame crash gave me the worst injury of all. I fractured three of my thoracic vertebrae and would go on to have a 5 level fusion that drove two screws through my spinal canal and required two more surgeries to a) remove those two screws and b) re-do the entire fusion for a total of 10 vertebrae. That surgeon made his own mistakes, including using the skull clamp to move my body (a big mistake) that ripped the clamp off of my head and left three deep gashes that required something like 9 staples. You could say I have had a lot of bad luck with orthopedic and neurosurgeons. I could start a channel on spine surgery alone. It’s been a tough go but my ankle doesn’t bother me in the least bit.

Accessory is the position where your key is turned but does not engage the starter and the vehicle is not running. In a keyless vehicle you usually just hit the start button once and you will hear the dinger going off telling you the keys are in the ignition.
Just watched your video. Did your nerve damage resolve? I’m asking because I fractured my ankle and had surgery about 4 weeks ago. I’m currently dealing with what I think is nerve injury symptoms.
Yes, it resolved about 99.999 percent. I can’t tell a bit of a difference, however it is very slightly slower on the nerve velocity test. Considering I have neuropathy in my hands and feet badly, I’d say that’s more than I could have hoped for. I moved on and graduated upwards in the energy game by breaking there vertebrae in my thoracic spine and had a surgeon drive a couple screws through my spinal canal. Believe it or not, that was just the start of it. This back injury is going to be that one injury in my life I may never recover from. 4 years after the fractures and I am still in intense pain. Makes life interesting 👎😂
Great video, I learned a lot. KTM builds some great motorcycles but they are also frustrating. Compared to the Japanese bikes it seems like they have problems with things coming loose and their use of hard to find thread lockers is extensive and not consumer friendly.
Sorry for the late reply, but to your point they definitely publish thread locker part numbers that are challenging to import into the USA. I’m a huge proponent of the torque wrench. I use it on nearly all fasteners I touch if not for just applying even force over the head bolts or those in the fork tubes but because I have a problem I like to jokingly call “over-torque-itis” LOL . Like the times I skipped the torque wrench on the bolts that hold the clutch and front brake levers in position and snapped the top side of the half circle that clamps over the bottom half.

Hey I’m a bit late in reply, sorry ‘bout that. The shelf life is going to vary between products but I’ll tell you that it’s not nearly as long as I’d hope it to be. I bought a rather sizable supply of the one that led to me doing this video and looked at the shelf life which I don’t think was more that two years out from when I received it but it could have sat on a distributor’s supply for a while before I got it. I’ll say this, anytime you buy it from your local big box home supply or auto parts stores, make sure you look for that date before leaving the store because I’ve seen expired tubes before.

Hello, I’m not sure how I missed your reply so I apologize for taking so long to respond. The good news is that my foot recovered and has remained recovered 99% where I only say 99% because a nerve velocity test showed minor slowing on the peroneal nerve that’s responsible for foot drop. Back when this happened I jumped right back on the bike even though the foot dropped had just been diagnosed and the swelling was bad. Each time I went riding I noticed the swelling dropped dramatically for a couple days. As it turns out, the pumping motion of the calve muscle helps to push blood back toward the heart and also help reduce other fluid retention. However, I had to have ablation of the major blood vessels (veins) because the valves in the veins that act as a check valve, were permanently damaged from swelling up inside the cast. This swelling is really the only true leftover issue from that injury that still rears its head to this day. If I am on my feet 18 hours a day for a week or so straight I find that I need to wear compression socks to prevent swelling that can actually become quite painful. My big struggle these days is the pain leftover from a bad crash in 2019 where I broke my back in 3 places and then in 2020 a surgeon drove 2 screws into my spinal canal and I had to have another two surgeries in 2021 where the third one didn’t go so well either. Hope your recovery is going well. How is everything going for your own injury?
Really appreciate this video. Made the same mistake. One note, I almost gave up on this solution and stared to disconnect the tank so I could run my siphon. I switched the jumper from the battery to slot 70 to a 14 gauge single strain wire from a coil of Romex (I'm a home builder, not a mechanic). The 14 gauge provided enough juice to run the fuel pump. The two testers / probes I had tried initially didn't provide enough current. After draining the tank, I filled with 2 gallons of fresh diesel. Truck started right up, and stayed running for about a 1/2 mile to the nearest gas station. I topped of the tank, went to start it and no dice. I went thru the priming instructions (turn to Run for 15 seconds, back to off, back to Run) but still no luck. Not sure if I clogged the filters or if the fuel pump went out. Towed to my house and decided I will troubleshoot when the sun is up. One other note... if your new to the key fob stuff, pressing the start button on the truck (without foot on the brake) will cycle thru from Off, to ACC, to Run. Silly that I never knew this. Never took the time to learn as I hate the whole fob concept. Constantly loosing the thing, while I'm in the truck driving! Yes... I'm turning into my father! Don't like change! Another note... I would suggest against attempting to siphon the fuel from the tank. Again, not a mechanic. But if you were born before 1980 and your a custom to the old school siphon technique, your in for a long day. Evidently, there are inline safety features (valves?) that are designed to seal the tank during a roll over. Good luck getting your hose by those.
Hello, I am sorry for the delayed reply, its actually late now and I was on RUclips searching for information on how to do something unrelated and saw the notification from your message and another. I am curious what happened to yours such that it would not start. You mentioned possibly burning up the fuel pump and hopefully that was not the issue. The fact that you drove it to the gas station makes me have a gut feeling your fuel pump was fine. Maybe you had air in your lines? I believe it can be a pain in the tail if you run it out of fuel. Anyway, thanks for saying hello and letting me know it helped. The day I did this, I was already running late for the motocross track so recording and sharing the video was more time consuming but I had a feeling I was not the only person waking up on the wrong side of the bed putting gasoline in my diesel. By the way, the truck is still running great after all of this time and has never broken down on me, knock on wood. Though I'm sure a mechanic wouldn't appreciate my method, it was much cheaper than what they would charge (unless I blew the engine, LOL).

Hey Jason, I love your videos and It's a walk down memory lane seeing you ride on all the tracks that I grew up on like Village Creek, Nocona, Swan, etc. I'm now in the Austin area and find myself wanting to possibly get back into the sport after a 20 year break. I'm 6'3" & 37 years old and remember never quite feeling comfortable on the bike due to the spacing issues. Are you still riding and if so, do you still recommend these modifications? Thanks!

Thank you for the research and presentation. Another KTM owner here, 2022 300 XC TPI. I bought off eBay the 2701 from India. To throw some more fun into the mix, I discovered Permatex Threadlocker Orange, a newer product. I have been using it a bit on the bike but do not have enough hours on the bike to be able to provide a conclusion of the Peramtax. Permatex describes it: "High Strength Removable Threadlocker Orange. Hand tool Removable. 1/4" - 1". Prevents Vibration Loosening." "3X Stronger than blue." As I understand it is like a red high strength Loctite or Permatex in relation to holding power (bolt not backing out) and resists vibration but yet can be hand removed easier, similar to say a Loctite 242 or 243, or ther Permatex blue midstrength threadlocker. I have applied it to the mounting bolts of Cyrcra handlebar wrap around guards. I know many riders who had them vibrate lose but mine have not. Have installed it onto the kickstand's mounting bolt (screw) that often vibrates out if the bike is ridden without placing the rubber kickstand holder, strap around the foot area of the kickstand when it is in the up position. We all forget to do that times and then as the bike vibrates and jiggles over bumps and jumps the kickstand is free to do as it likes with only its spring trying futilely to hold the kickstand in place. The movement of the kickstand will commonly unthread the single mounting bolt. So hoping the Orange will assist the bolt to stay put! www.permatex.com/products/thread-compounds/orange-threadlockers/permatex-high-strength-removable-threadlocker-orange-36-ml/ I learned equivalents: www.permatex.com/contact/cross-reference/ Loctite 242 - Permatex Medium Strength Threadlocker Blue. Loctitie 243 - "Permatex Surface Insensitive Threadlocker Blue is ideal for fasteners 1/4″ to 3/4″ (6mm to 20mm) that have a with a slight oil film. Surface Insensitive Threadlocker Blue is an oil resistant formulation that also prevents against vibration loosening. Removable with hand tools for easy disassembly."
Thank you for sharing your story. I’ve been watching so many video on this. I broke 3 bone in my ankle on the 12th , surgery in the 17th and basically just wanting to know what is normal. The bottom and top of my foot is tingly and numb. I can feel and wiggle my toes. I know this is going to take a long time. I just want it to heal the right way. This video was 2 years ago. Do you have an update?
So after they took the cast off and I realized my foot was paralyzed partially, I had to find new doctors because my insurance changed. This delayed my treated nearly 3 months from the time I learned I had paralysis so after a month of waiting I decided to get back on the bike and continue riding motocross as a method of recovery. I fully recovered, have no ankle pain today and I credit PT and me pretending as if nothing was wrong and using the foot as much as possible. I did have to have veins ablated because the cast pressure damaged them and was causing severe permanent swelling (though every time I rode the swelling dropped for a couple days because the heavy use of the calve muscle pumped blood out of the lower leg back upwards). Since this injury I had many more including breaking my back in 3 places, having 3 back surgeries in 9 months because the first one sent 2 screws into my spinal canal and fused me hunched over. I also had left wrist surgery and both shoulders rebuilt plus an ulnar nerve transposition since this ankle fracture which was actually in 2016. I can say that numbness is a normal part of the healing process. Out of all of my injuries and surgeries I began using the broken part as soon as and in several cases sooner than when the doctor said “go” with exception of my back. The back injury is the only one that continues to haunt me, cause me severe pain daily. I truly feel that using the leg asap is the key to full recovery along with PT and trying to pretend as if nothing is different about your leg. They wanted to give me an orthopedic shoe to help me walk and I thought it was silly because even though I couldn’t lift my toes and foot upward, I could compensate with my knee and eventually it came around (might have taken 6 months or so I can’t remember exactly). The body is absolutely amazing at healing. Our bones can even heal without casts and surgeries though it’s safest to use them to prevent misalignment and permanent arthritis. I have zero pain in my ankle when I walk. Two EMGs after I fully recovered did show minor slowing of the peroneal nerve but I don’t notice it at all. I have a 12” plate in right femur from 1990 and knock on wood never have issues and that sucker was about as numb as numb can be after a complex surgery. I had two ulnar nerve transpositions since 2015 (one since this video) because it was pinched at the elbow and caused severe numbness and loss of muscle in my hands and I made a full recovery from that even though I have chronic peripheral neuropathy going against me (pain from that too). So out of all those injuries and more, my back is the only one still causing issues but it’s only been 10 months since the last surgery (talk about numbness, my back is missing feeling in a very large area but somehow it joins in on the pain with the rest of my thoracic cavity). Your going to heal up great. Follow doctors orders, don’t be afraid to question them, especially if things don’t seem right because my paralysis was caused by them not listening to me that my cast was too tight. Jason

THANKS for sharing. Very frank no drama explanation. Very fit 54 yr old Viking endurance race sup paddler and now extreme mtb enthusiast....but first time break in 50 years. 5 weeks since mtb bike accident on sidewalk curb side jump fail at speed riding to work; I know. Wearing steel toed sneaker. RHS bimalleolal fracture and I think partial metatarsal sprain as ball is quite stiff. Very successful surgery = plate and screws rhs and screws lhs of ankle. 3 weeks post and top big toe still quite numb but I can move it approx. 30 % up down but not bend middle joints of toes; just base. Doing Gentle mobility abc... feels so good, until physio next week and 0% weight bearing orders until 2nd followup. I also have crutches for later to weight bearing train and currently an iWalk3.0 and 4 wheel aterrain scooter. Have a long boot for outside but in home no way. Luckily I'm a back sleeper anyway. Yes I will make a full recovery but I need time probability 6 to 9 months full to ride aggressive. Taking easy day and week with lots if rest and positivity. So it was refreshing to hear your story; don't right yourself off ever running again...keep self talking positive thoughts and keep gently mobilizing ankle and toes and gentle massage. Everyone is different. This is so frustrating; I really do get it. Thanks again buddy. PS. I realize it's about 6 years ago for you; let me know how your injury healed up?
This injury feels like yesterday for me but sadly in hindsight it was a piece of cake recovery compared to the fight I have been facing for the last 2.5 years after breaking 3 vertebrae and have a surgeon send 2 screws directly into my spinal canal while fusing me on an angle classified as a deformity. Two more surgeries after that and I’m still struggling but fighting and I can still walk 🤣. I shouldn’t laugh at that as I have gratitude but between this paralysis, the back fractures and two of three surgeries jacked up and a 10 level fusion and I’m still freaking walking. So hearing you benefited from this old video actually helped me realize how I need to keep fighting through this. The ankle injury was a 100% recovery and zero pain or problems since. However, I did have to have deep veins ablated because this damaged those and caused massive swelling for a long time. Now I’m good though. Sadly the back injury has been impossible to recovery from. BTW the iwalk pirates 🏴☠️ peg leg is awesome! It’s amazing at how well nerves can recover. Half my back is still numb though because I’ve been sliced open so much. If only the damn pain would go away. It’s rough man, the pain is so intense and unrelenting every morning I wake up my chest is on fire. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger even if you didn’t want to be this strong in the first place!

You have to keep getting up... i intend to recover 💯...just need time so I'm patiently impatient meaning I'm the driver not the passenger in my recovery. it's a little hard to rely on my family so much to drive me places etc. I'm used to being independent like that. oh well. i don't think my teens realize how much I've recovered or what really entails breaking bones? So, yes ...keep pushing indeed. Never give up. Everyone is different and depending how strong and stuuborn your will power is may determine your healing. Right cheers brother.

I agree fully. I miss seeing you and your son, I miss smelling the dirt in the air, feeling the enthusiasm that I felt on the way to the track and while gearing up to ride. I miss experiencing adrenaline pumping things I never in a million years thought I’d be doing on 2 wheels and believe it or not I even miss slamming into the ground hard enough to caution me by just shy of being out of the sport while recovering. I had a bad luck window between June of 2017 and Sept 2019 with injuries that led to 6 significant surgeries, plus a torn MCL/Quad, Broken Ankle and broken ribs that put me in timeout too. Until Sept 2019, not one injury made me second guess jumping back on the seat until I spent time in the ICU watching other people recover and I decided to quit to save my parents heartache. Yet after a couple months I was already wanting to return and then the sudden and serious pain that began late December of 19 or early January 2020 took the thought out of my mind while leaving the chance on the table to return. Then nothing drove the nails of not returning deeper than the treatment I have received from January 2020 through to present day. I never thought western medicine would lead to such complications in two of three surgeries where some could have been avoided. I never thought it would be so tough to get help based on the fact that my injury was risky for a surgeon to repair. I always felt that a doctors duty was to help patients. I understand that they want perfect surgical records and outcomes, but it every surgeon had that philosophy, only patients with marginal pathologies would be treated. I have been trying for one year to have a muscle biopsy performed as requested by multiple physicians. I even switched insurance to make it happen, finally got on the appointment books with the neurologist and they cancelled indicating that the insurances referral was no longer valid when in fact a call to them indicated it was. That reminds me. They hadn’t responded to my patient portal message, I better give them another call and see if I can scurry this along. Never in my lifetime would I have thought an injury 6 days shy of 2.5 years would still be holding me back. I can walk and act normal so nobody would ever know how much it still affects me. I have recovered from countless serious injuries in my lifetime, yet this one has been a real challenge. Somehow I am confident I’ll get back to “normal” or maybe I should say I have blind faith I’ll not live in serious pain daily, once they figure out why my back, ribcage and stomach burn like fire with such intensity it dwarfs any myalgia I felt in the worse workout recovery from my prior ex-NBA trainer who kicked my tail in shape. Something is seriously off; I don’t know if it’s just damage from the 3 surgeries packed into 9 months or my muscles ripping on the three rods you can easily feel under the tissue. Back to riding, I really miss it, miss seeing you guys, but the medical care I have gotten / not gotten is what I fear the most should I ever fully recover enough to where I second guessed quitting the sport. I never say never though.
Great video, super helpful. KTM 1290 Superduke owner here, just did f and r brake pad replacements. Front calipers call for 243, but the rear calls for 2701, which is odd since the 2701 data sheet says it's for "permanent locking" (as does 263). Can you confirm you were able to unfasten bolts that used 263?
Thank you for the nice compliment, I’m always relieved to learn there are other people who care enough about proper maintenance to dig into this. Indeed, I can confirm I have been able to apply enough torque by hand (without any sort of cheater bar) to overcome the bond that both of these products offer. I can also confirm that nothing I have used these on broke free on their own; i.e. they do their job so long as directions are followed. I ended up breaking my back and had three surgeries over the last 2.5 years. I bring this up to note that my memory of all of the fastener sizes and applications I used these products on (both on my KTM and with other unrelated purposes) escapes me at this moment. What I do remember is the relief I felt when I needed to break the fasteners free and realized that my prior taught fears of “red” loctite was without justification. With that stated, I could see the break-free torque needed to bust a fastener lose being greater than the force needed to twist the heads right off some fasteners where the size of the bolt is small and the metal is soft. Since it’s been a while since I watched this video and produced it, I don’t remember if I mentioned that I used the stronger one on my breaks as well. I figured that I’d rather risk a nightmare fastener removal than taking a trip over the bars due to breaks coming lose. On a side note, you have one amazing bike in that 1290 Superduke. Back when my garage had 4 SX/EXC models, I figured that those provided so much fun in my life that adding a 1290 would top it all off. Enjoy that bike John and have a good weekend.

Hey Jason! I watched your videos on your ankle It surprises me that there is not much information out there compared to how you laid it all about - between video and in the comments. 5 weeks ago I had a hiking accident and experienced an ankle fracture. From the doctor: There is a minimally displaced fracture of the medial malleolus with extension to the ankle mortise. There is no evident widening of the ankle mortise. There is a small curvilinear calcific focus posterior to the posterior malleolus on the lateral view. There is overlying soft tissue swelling. An ankle joint effusion is present. No evidence of dislocation. There are minimal degenerative changes of the midfoot. I have been in a boot on and off using crutches all the time, but working to keep it moving with PT exercises. It seems like the bone healed pretty fast, but when I try to walk on the boot during the end of week 4 I get this pain that goes from my heal up my ankle a bit. I have also noticed tickling in my toes and my arm went asleep a couple times at night unusually. Sounds like some nerve stuff going on.. By way of your comments, it looks likes its going to take a bit longer... .just keep moving and stretching? I was afraid to walk with that pain.... Thanks all all your help man. It doesn’t drain every last drop, but pumps it about as dry as you would see letting your truck run out of fuel. I figured any remaining gasoline in the tank (already diluted in my diesel) would be further diluted by the additional 30+ gallons I added and remove my concern of damaging my engine. It worked out and I’ve never had any issues with this truck.
@@jtbrower i poured diesel from a pump and it contained a lot of water. Truck was not happy, and ended up being in limp mode. I plan on doing this without dropping the tank and hopefully it will drain most of the water out.

My ankle recovered pretty much 100%. I never have ankle pain, it is strong and even though a more recent nerve conduction test shows slight slowing of the nerve, I don't notice any issues. That said, this injury was quite the learning experience. My leg remained swollen entirely too long after the cast was taken off and they identified that the valves in my veins had been damaged caused venous reflux leading to blood pooling. I had to have those veins ablated with a long catheter they inserted at my ankle and I believe they used a radio frequency to permanently "fry" the vein so blood would take a different path back to the heart. I think one of the keys to my recovery was physical therapy along with the fact that I went right back to using my leg as soon as they took the cast off. Technically I was using it before the cast was removed because I recently saw a video I had shot where I was rowing and walking on the treadmill in the garage. I am now recovering from a much more serious surgery. I have had 3 spine surgeries in the last 9 months with two of them being fusions. The second fusion and both the second and third surgeries were to correct issues that happened in the first surgery. I am now 36 days outside of a 10 level spinal fusion that went from the bottom of my neck through 75% of my thoracic spine. It makes my ankle recovery feel like a walk in the park! I promise you that the human body is amazing and when it comes to your ankle, I am willing to bet that you make a full and swift recovery. I really do think the key is PT and even at home exercises. Also, I went right back and started riding the bike again shortly after they removed the cast. The firm boot protected the ankle while the motion of my calve muscle moving through bumps and jumps pumped the blood back to the heart and actually reduced the swelling for a few days after each time I rode. I am not saying that this is truly good advice, its just something I did.

This is very humbleing I really hope I can walk fine because the bone part that broke is so little I feel like it won't glue. I believe it was September 8th of 2019 I was riding at a local US based track in the state of Oklahoma. I was actually training for safety that day and having the time of my life. I hadn’t slept well the night before (typical back then) and had been riding for about 7 hours in the near 100F temperatures. Needless to say I pushed it a bit hard that day because I was having so much fun. There was a simple roller section in the track right out of a 180 degree left hand turn that was sandy, had one wet spot between the rollers and the edge of the track had been washed out due to rain. I had actually pointed to that spot in the track earlier that day and told a local pro, “if I go down today, it will be there”. Not because the track was bad, just because it added a bit more challenge that we expect when we ride some of these great practice MX tracks. So, there I was deciding to do one more Moto. Just having fun as an amateur and sure enough I spazzed out and was off balance when my front tire hit that wet spot. I began to lose control of the bike due to fatigue and let’s face it, I’m no pro. Trying to save it from crashing I headed off track where I hit a drop off from the rain that washed out the sand. This catapulted me head first into the ground like a lawn dart, cracking the top of my helmet where the Garmin camera was mounted and causing compression fractures to my T3,T4 and T5 that had about 30%, 50% and 70%-80% height loss to the anterior side of the vertebrae. I sat on the ground for about 15 minutes, then walked back to the RV I owned at the time, took a shower and friends helped me load my RV Toy Hauler up. I then drove back to my home state in Texas, 1.5 hours away, unloaded the trailer, got something to eat and walked into a local emergency room telling them “I think that I broke my back”. For obvious reasons they didn’t believe me but multiple x-rays and CT scans identified the seriousness of the injury so they transferred me to a local university hospital that was better equipped to handle the issue. I spent two days in the ICU, was doing so well that they discharged me to head home to heal. It wasn’t until a doctor cleared me 4 months later did I realize how bad the injury was. I have been in intense pain since about December of 2019. This led to 4 injection procedures, two rounds of PT and 3 surgeries all in under 2 years (with the 3 surgeries happening in the last 9 months). I’m far from being healed up, now just over 5 weeks from the third surgery and 10 level fusion. I have decided to permanently give up riding motocross as this injury and the difficulties obtaining a health care provider to help me even while having insurance have made it not worth the risk. I use to think that the medical system would always be there to help me. Instead I learned that even when the system makes mistakes and harms me, it’s even more difficult to find someone to help. I had to become my own healthcare advocate. Even though I was in that intense pain, fatigued from fighting it and lacking proper nutrition because I hurt too bad to eat, I had no choice but to push on and keep fighting for my “life”. That’s what it felt like to me, I was fighting for my life because in the long term I couldn’t have lived in that much pain. It’s too early to tell if this third surgery will reduce the pain. However, it did correct issues from the first surgery which would have caused me more issues as time progressed. My story is unique, I don’t want it to deter anyone from enjoying the sport. I played really hard and rode a lot. Although it’s dangerous and can have life changing consequences in a split second, I had a lot of bad luck that didn’t help me once I became injured!
@@jtbrower oh my god! It's allways the last go isn't it? You seriously feel like a good dude I hope so much for your recovery! As we do the stuff we do I feel like we don't really care about the future and until the consequences hit us. If you have kids they must be very preocupied but u must win this even if you don't. You broke or back and still did all you did that day must have gotten worse after that. But it does not matter. Just be a little more chill. And probability stick to the asphalt roads from now on or even if you do the dirt bikes forge about pushing it! Even cats have only 9 life's!. For me I am a delivery driver for an app here in Brasil called Ifood. It was the first of the day the app gave me 10 minutes to get to downtown I knew I shout have not been going plus 60 kmh on the city yet I was. A lady came though a crossing with out looking. To make things even worse I have an old Honda with out break discs, I have the old breaks. And they were All used up. I used my hornes but to no effort, she wasn't paying attention. I took to the left the best I could but did a front collision on the back of the vehicle. My left foot got stuck and I was propelled to the other side. Broke a chunk the de medial malleolus. 25 days pós surgery. After hearing you break you stuff again after what happend it makes really thing: take things slow. Slow. Or else. Any way. When I get better I will tell u. And u if you want tell me too. =D About the doctors. Yep, they are humans just like you and me. They fix us just like we fix the bike it's just a little more complicated. Get a good doctor if you can. Like a good mecanic work wanders. Here in Brasil we have universal healthcare. But we don't choose it's just hand out. Best thing is never to go to the doctor any way. Am right. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I really hope I run again and u stop feeling pain. Amem

What I wrote before was much more detailed, but I wanted to let you know that I am glad you made it out alive from your crash and that you too seem like a great dude and I am glad you are not injured much worse. I promise you that you will heal up and make it through this. Just know the more you begin to walk, run and etc, the more you will notice things that are concerning. Whenever you are at the point where your doctors are confident that the fracture is healed enough to begin applying more force, EXERCISE is the common denominator among all of my injuries that have healed up without permanent consequences. It doesn't hurt to eat healthy, but I admit that one time when I tore my MCL and Quad I was partying with friends a lot and my diet was not the best. The surgeon (I didn't have to have surgery) told me that I healed up as well as what they would expect out of an 18 year old football player and that knee has never bothered me. After about 8-10 weeks passed I went back to riding bikes again and maybe that exercise is a big reason why I have had no issues today. My back is really one of the only injuries that hasn't recovered. YET!

Your actually supposed to stand on the balls of your feet. The reasoning is to allow your body to actually flex, if you on the arch, your ankle has no pivot. It’s hard but stay on the balls of your feet, don’t put your feet down in corners, and you’ll be aight

@@typrall9028 no problem, some English speaking ppl just automatically expect the entire world to speak English too; I wish I knew more spoken languages. I know a lot of programming languages but that doesn’t count lol. It’s been a long time since I made this video and my personal preferences changed dramatically along the way. I stopped making these mods to get lower to the ground and it helped my cornering a lot. I didn’t get there overnight though. Trying to remember back, more than likely I did either use lower pegs or just slid the KTM pegs to the lower position (I haven’t watched this video in years). The KTM just feels like a more compact machine to me compared to the Japanese bikes, but once I got use to it, I began reversing these mods.
Glad that You've put this video. It is hard nowadays for tall riders to find comfort. Is this the tallest seat from KTM Power Parts +35mm or +20mm?
Its been quite some time since I used those tall seats but I do believe that I was shooting for the tallest one they had at the time and assume that is what I had here.

I eventually stopped using those tall person modifications as I gradually became comfortable feeling cramped into the bike and no longer was willing to sacrifice the way it made the bike corner “top heavy”. I really noticed it on motocross tracks when I bought a new bike that didn’t have the mods yet and after being too excited to wait to put them on, a one day trip to the track made me corner so much better. Of course, I wouldn’t have been able to do that until I just got use to feeling cramped in place. Out of all modifications I did in this video that were the worst, it was how high up I had my handlebars, but I had to do that to match the seat or else I felt even more uncomfortable. It summary, it worked for me in the beginning but eventually I rode a stock KTM completely comfortably.
@@jtbrower thanks for shraring Your experience. I've got Husky which is suited to short riders in stock trim. I've already put higher handle bar blend and are aiming for taller seat. But might go only with 20 mm taller. I saw that many pro riders are using taller seats at Husky. Best regards and have fun on the track!
