Welcome to Canis Major Fishing Adventures!
Braid main line. Floro leader and if you don't wanna wast a bunch of braid put mono as a backer
Agree! This appears to be the choice of the more experienced commentors. Cheers!
Braid to Fluoro leader is elite 🤌
Probably the combination that I use most often. Cheers!
Braid I just throw a leader on if I need anything else
I’m the same for most of my bass and I shore fishing. Cheers!
I use one of those all the time and I have never. I had a backlash on that. Hello Only ones I do have a problem. Learning how to use is a bait. Caster never could figure out how to use that damn thing without messing it up. If you're just starting try a 202 or 404, i've had one since I was fifteen and now i'm fifty the same one. They have a lifetime warranty on it if it breaks centerback😊
Cool. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Never done this in my life and my reels never have any problems..
Glad to hear it. Cheers!
Mount the reel's spool on an hand drill and feed the line on the spool at 90%. No twists, just direct transfer. You're welcome.
That’s an awesome tip. Thanks!
Mono is great for bait fishing because its stretch means you have more margin for error when playing fish. It’s no good for lure fishing though because the stretch makes you unable to feel the action of your lure and leads to poor bite indication. Fluero is only really good as a leader for easily spooked fish due to its invisibility in the water. In conclusion braid for lures, mono for bait and fluero for some leaders
Very well said. Thank you!
If you fish bass tournaments in the north during winter, you probably feel me on this. Cheers!
Mono is actually much stronger than floro. Watch salt strongs mono vs floro testing! I was amazed! Great vid 👍🏻
I have seen that video. It’s fantastic. Thanks for sharing!
At first i thought braid was the sham but its fluro. Theres not a chance in all hell im paying that, mono or braid to mono leader.
A lot of people would agree with you! Cheers!
Needs to loose his boater license, people would think twice about that shit, drives me crazy every time I’m out in my boat I pickup as much trash out of the water as I can
@@ClayMcneely-pk6kr agree and thanks for cleaning up. I do the same thing. Cheers!
Use braid
@@たろう808 cheers!
I live on big farm I spool them up then go let it all out in field them reel it back in it’s exhausting 😂
lol. Soaking the spool in warm/hot water does help.
Wow there’s so much to learn in fishing… other people make it looks so simple and easy but there’s a lot of prep work to do before actually going out and fishing
Yeah. The learning and progressing can be o e of the most enjoyable parts of it! Hopefully these videos help. Enjoy the process!
@ I have no experience or any knowledge at all about fishing and but I’m starting get into it. Any advice or tips on what to buy for a easy fishing kit to fish with in Hawaii? I’m really interested in catching and eating big ones. What would you recommend for that? Gonna be fishing in salt water by the shore cuz I’m a broke young adult just getting into fishing so I don’t have a boat or kayaks haha.
@ any help would be helpful and if you could kindly break it down for me how it set it up. Or it could be a video idea to make it for beginners and noobs haha
@ sure. Have you fished before? Freshwater or saltwater?
@@CanisMajorFishingAdventures none experience at all. And neither but would be doing it in saltwater in Hawaii
What about the new Sanofi line from Berkeley? It seems to be the best but I use a leader for trout.
@@harti81269 Interesting. I am not familiar and did not find it either a quick search. There is a 4th category of copolymer fishing line. Most are more or less nylon. I left them out to keep this video short but will cover later. My experience with ones I have tried has been mixed so I am still learning. Would love to hear more. Thx!
Braid main line, with floro leader. Light mono for rig, so break it if you get caught on rocks or logs.
Agree. That is 80% of the time for me as well. Cheers!
If it does lay out half the spooled line behind your boat without any tackle as you move to let the twist out.
That’s a great tip. Thanks!
My dad would always have me walk it down the street
Sounds like your dad had it figured out. I’m sure mine would have done that too if he thought of it. Cheers!
Mono is the best
Depending on where you are, what you fish for and what fishing techniques you use, I agree!
does this worm get good bites going at a kayak speed? or do you go extra slow with this style? Thanks!
Great question! I slow down a bit and relax. Maybe between 1.5 and 2 mph. This was summer though so fish were at peak metabolism. Let me know if it works for you. Cheers!
Maxima Ultra Green is the best Mono there is. We use it for leaders for salmon and steelhead here in the PNW. Braid for the main line. Flouro is a joke. You don't need it for salmon or steelhead even in gin-clear water. You are giving fish too much credit thinking they know what a leader is. Flouro is weak and WAY too much money
Agree. You noticed I showed that Maxima first! Interesting to hear about the lack of utility for Flouro on your fishery. It makes sense. There are a few scenarios where I fish where Flouro is worth it. Mostly bait finesse in crystal clear over-pressured lakes. Otherwise, I am with you as a braid-to-whatever is needed guy. Cheers!
Also it depends on the line. If you get cheaper line it's no bueno
True that! Cheers!
Use Braided line, and you don't have to worry about it.
Hey All. Here is Part 3. Improper spooling wastes line and can ruin a day of fishing. Here is how to avoid the most common mistakes. Some people soak a newly spooked reel in warm water to release the tension. I usually do both to ensure smoother and longer casts. Please subscribe for more line tips!
Living the dream brother!!
@@arrandy7731 Cheers!
I've caught thousands of brown trout on either mepps, blue fox or panther Martin inline spinners, as well as rapalas. Brown and gold rapalas, and silver, gold, brass or brown trout colored spinners. I've only caught maybe 20 small mouth bass though.
Nice! Whereabouts do you fish?
@CanisMajorFishingAdventures diamond fork river, Provo river, Ogden and weber rivers, scofield reservoir, Utah lake Spanish fork river, joe's valley reservoir, and high elevation lakes in the uintah mountains and boulder mountains occasionally. Utah has good fishing. But I often travel for work so I've fished Wisconsin and Texas quite a bit. I caught a few massive large mouth bass in a private pond in Texas, like 13-14 pounds massive. And I caught a smally in the st. Louis River that was the size and shape of a football. Biggest smally I've ever seen in real life.
@CanisMajorFishingAdventures white bass were the only bass id ever caught until 10 years ago. So they are new to me and excite me a bit.
@ Very nice. A few bucket list spots for me on that list for sure. Cheers!
@@CanisMajorFishingAdventures This guy's recommendations are pretty soling in Montana as well.
Browns eat trout colored Rapalas and worm colored jigs all day.
@@jacobmccandles1767 cool! Where do you fish?
@CanisMajorFishingAdventures Montana. How about you?
@@jacobmccandles1767 Nice! Massachusetts. Not quite the equivalent of Montana. Hope to get out there one day!
@@CanisMajorFishingAdventures I'd have to think Browns would eat a minnow anywhere...although I rarely target them in lakes.
@ they do. People drag minnows very slowly on the bottom to get them. Have not yet tried that myself but will do!
I have a brown trout. I'll leave it in your toilet upper decker. 😉
Ive been looking for that flashback mini in stores for months. Nobody in my area carries it. Gonna have to order some asap
I think they are on sale at Tackle Warehouse. Cheers!
can you catch crappie in it?
I suppose so. Not many crappie in the lakes I have been fishing lately but I have had crappie hit it in the past but have also had crappie hit everything from spinnerbaits to full size chatterbaits! Let me know if it works. Cheers!
Ive had zero luck for weeks. Ive tried nymps on a fly rod, inline spinners, live woms, lipless crankbaits, tubes, and all downsized. Haven’t tried a chatterbait yet. Any tips for retrieval technique?
Sorry to hear that. What are your water temps? If very cold, I let the bait reach the bottom and then I give it a tug just enough to feel it chatter for a second or so and let it fall back to the bottom. I do this for the entire retrieve. I think it imitates a dying baitfish pretty well. Good luck! Hope to hear you have a good catch soon!
4 pound 4 test for smallmouth? LOL
This time of year? Sure! Will take any hits I can get. Cheers!
The water is VERY clear in the winter with all algae and vegetation desd
Braid to a fluoro leader for most applications. I wouldn’t ever recommend spooling your reel with fluoro.
Mostly agree! I do like straight 6# Flouro for my BFS setup. I sometimes run 12-15# Flouro for highly pressured super clear water. Going to talk about braid to Flouro or mono in an upcoming video. Thanks!
As someone who spools with fluoro, I have never really had it fail
@ Me neither. I use straight Flouro for a few specific rods and applications. This thread has been fascinating though as many folks appear to feel strongly against Flouro. Pondering a video on this. Thanks!
Hey All. Here is the Second Part of the New Fishing Line Series. Fishing Line May be the Most Important Part of Your Setup!
I need to get back to fishing. been so much going on in shit hole Obiden land that fishing got away from me my mother use to say fish tremble at the sound of your name Paul. RIP momma. I'm going to catch a huge cutty for her .
Sounds like a great time to plan a fishing outing in remembrance of your mom. Go get em!
@CanisMajorFishingAdventures thanks I think so that's going to be a good day . And that a great .
Great videos! I'd love to see one that goes deeper into your thoughts on how wind and wind current effect positioning in the winter and throughout the day.
Thank you! Great idea! Will think on that for sure. Cheers!
Tons of tiger trout are in just about every pond around where I fish
Very cool! What state?
@ middle/upper part of utah
@ very cool! They can probably survive the summers up there? Here in MA they stock them, usually around 2,500/year out of the 500,000 fish they stock so it’s 1/200 but lots of those fish get caught quickly by humans or birds so still a rare find here. Most won’t survive the summers if they survive the predators. Would love to fish there one day. Cheers!
@ I think it’s because the conditions were just right, I dont think they were stocked because it’s a reservoir from a natural river and it’s quite far in the mountains and small. It’s about 3 tiger trout, 1 rainbow and 1 brook trout every 5 fish
I have two that I really like… when there’s little to no wind, a Zman 2.75” Coppertruesse TRD on a 1/20oz Jighead-Ned rig. I’ve had a blast catching huge numbers when more reaction style baits, and larger plastics, weren’t getting the job done. I’ve also landed blue gill and yellow perch over a pound on them and it’s a very simple lure to work with. My second might not sound “finesse” at first but I consider the blade baits a finesse version of the lipless crankbaits… I like the BPS Lazer Blade. The 1/2 oz still has a small 2” profile and the 1/4 oz is a tiny 1.5”. I caught my first, and only, 10 pounder last winter on the larger size and still caught good numbers of quality on the smaller one too.
@@mike2687 very cool. I am going to try that exact combo Ned rig! When we lived in PA, I could get winter Smallies on a simple 2.75” tube but that doesn’t work in the winter here. I find I get nothing with soft plastics but looking forward to trying your combo. I am with you 100% on the small Crankbait. The smallest Berkeley warpig in copper black would be my #2 as well. Cheers!
Very excited to land this yesterday!
Worst beer ive ever tried to drink
@@spencerbrown3140 lol!
Nice size brown
Thanks man!
It's huge, i've only every seen dinks in the mountain streams where i live. 😅
@ Thanks! This particular lake holds some huge ones. I was lucky that this one was so shallow and hit like that. People troll deep for hours trying to hook one. Cheers!
Hey All. As promised, here is my favorite winter finesse bait! What’s yours?
🎣😎🎣
Cheers!
At 2:06, what if the source that im using makes you buy it?
@justinmcilwee1255 I use the free ones. I do know most of the paid ones are subscription based and need to make money to support their business. In Massachusetts, most count our maps are fee online for the larger ponds and lakes.
Oh okay thanks
Cold water, like 40-30 degrees? Or higher
Low 30’s. Nearby lakes are iced over
