Im comanche my kids dont seem intrested on the old ways my dad taught us to make our bows and arrows war clubs spears we had no choice or we got our ass handed to us but im glad he did my kids are so caight in the modern world thry just want to buy a bow and arrows and start shooting off artows i told them thats not an art thats a sport these weapons were to kill and killin was our sport you didnt know how good your weapons were till you had to use them in battle and worked and if you made it you appreciate it more you put your energy into it for one sole purpose to kill well at least thsts what my dad told us if your weapon didnt have your energy it wasnt gonna work for you thats why he insisted we make our own so that it true to us and us onlyand it was bad to let to let a woman touch your weapons it gave it bad medicine it was taboo in our house if my mom was cleaning and they were in the way shed get one of us to move them but if none of us werw home shed skip over it till one of us came home to move it and you woul d have to clean that area wi h my mom just loved making us do lol

I'm just starting to get into archery and what a coincidence coming across this information. I'm a white guy, but, in my ancestry, one of my cousin's was Cynthia Anne Parker. She was taken from Fort Parker during a Commanche raid when she was a little girl, raised with the Commanches and gave birth to Quannah Parker that was the last dominant Commanche Chief until his death in 1911. He was honored by the U.S. Government for having deciding to avoid the extinction of the Commanches that would've taken place had they decided to have a final war with the Government. But before their surrender, did help organize a war that united different Indian tribes to ban together and fought for their way of life in a brutal war that took a toll on the Government troops and saved face in the eyes of the Indian Nations resistance to wrongly be relocated onto reservations. I'm not Indian, but I'm proud to be related to a Great Indian Chief, even if it's not related by my blood and his, but through his Mother.

My mom is Apache and Blackfeet... I love how he specifies that each tribe/nation had their own unique process and technique for making the arrows!

As a kid in Maine, I learned how to make a simple bow and arrow set. Funny thing is, I ended up doing a lot of what was presented here, almost the same way. DNA memory and practical "can this work?" mind set were the culprits, I suspect. Still are it seems. Thanks!

I make arrows from dowels, banging steel, turkey feathers, and an aluminum arrow as a collar for the tips.since the banding steel is free and the feathers are free, I only pay for glue and dowels. But, I also use epoxy, now the aluminum, and goes and epoxy are what is around the house . Might need to get another aluminum arrow, but if I get 24 arrows from one aluminum arrow its worth is . I pay literally $1.16 per arrow. Never had one break . Have lost some though.
