This clip is from the 1997 Disney film production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. The song was actually written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart and was originally in "The Boys from Syracuse." I don't own any rights to this video, but was disappointed to see that it was missing from RUclips.

I've always appreciated the addition of this song. Not only do we get to see Bernadette Peters sing, but it also gives the stepmother backstory. With this song, we learn she's not merely evil, but bitter from heartbreak.
I loved this movie more than the original, because I love how individualistic each and every costume was. The sisters weren't unbelievably "ugly", and I love how historically ambiguous it all is- but I guess this is just my childhood experience with it. So don't be too upset with me lol, I just like the whimsy and fruity costumes.

It’s a good song but I would have enjoyed the movie more if the score was entire Rogers and Hammerstein instead of just the two Rogers did with other partners. No offense

@@manuelorozco7760 they are amazing songs that fit very well into the show. If you dont know they werent originally in the show you wouldnt know. I certainly didnt. The way you phrased it though you made it seem like NONE of the songs were there when all of them pretty much were. So why quibble over two songs that are so seemlessly put in.

People can say what they want but she was kinda dropping straight facts tho lol.... maybe a bit extreme, but I think its important to not fall blindly in love. Have a reasonable amount of trust but trust yourself and your gut more, and always be prepared to do what's best for you.

I keep reading in the posts about how they saw this movie as a kid and feel in love Bernadette Peters. If you grew up watching Animanaics you also got to hear her amazing voice as Rita the Cat!

The stepmother def had a problem with love. You can just tell she was angry and she took it out on cinderella cuz cinderella kept talking about true love exists and stuff. And the stepmom wasn't having any of it.

This was my favorite song in the movie. And it sounds like the stepmother has a really interesting backstory that would have made an interesting prequel. Also, I could not hate her properly as the evil stepmother. She's too fabulous.
