I just moved here from Tampa Bay, FL (St. Petersburg). Newburgh is cheaper than there too. At least for rent...I'm in senior apartments. Right now trying to figure out the WATS system and how to get around without a car. Great video.

I knew a guy in the 80s in Florida that lived in Evansville for a spell. He said the atmosphere was too "domestic". I guess compared to a beach town in Florida, that might be true. But I didn't like Florida much personally. In the 80s I lived on both the east coast (Merritt Island) and the west coast in Tampa. I thought Tampa was a high crime s-hole to tell you the truth. I am from Indiana originally but much farther north. Grew up on a farm. I enjoyed growing up there. I've never been through Evansville because it was out of the way a bit. Now that I-69 goes all the way down there it's probably a bit more accessible. I-64 east to west passes to the north so that helps too. Maybe one day I'll pass through.

Was very cool to see a clip of my hometown of Mount Vernon in this video. I spent my growing up years there and I can tell you that I grew to despise Evansville because of how close it was to Mount Vernon. Concerning Evansville, one of the worst things is how the local government officials try to promote the city as if it were Louisville or Indy. Just not sure that Evansville can reach that level, Another issue is getting around the city. I can still remember when US 41 was upgraded through Evansville to a four lane highway back in the early 70's. Instead of making it an interstate grade highway, they cut corners and put in stoplights at most of the major intersections hence the nickname "Stoplight City." When work began on a better east-west route through town in the 1980's and 90's, the same mistake was made with not making the route a full interstate grade freeway and adding stoplights at odd locations. It has gotten better but is still messed up. There are a number of attractions in the area that are pretty interesting - Angel Mounds, The LST exhibit, W Franklin St, The Evansville Museum and Wesselman Woods. A good day trip would be a visit to New Harmony, Newburgh, Vincennes along with Holiday World and Lincoln National Boyhood Memorial. One good factor is that Evansville has a relatively low cost of living.

What I hate about Evansville. The stink bugs drive me insane My water bill is around $150 every month which is asinine. Especially when the stench downtown is still there There are no homes for rent under $2000 a month The crime rates have gone up. My car has been broken into, my things stolen. People are now getting murdered left and right Its just getting old. Ive been here for maybe 10 years and im just about done with it. Lol The people aren't that bad, there's some cool stuff like the fall fest and Franklin Street is cool. The skatepark, the airport we can't take for granted. There's a bunch of work for tradesman.

OMG I lived in Vincennes, and on the weekends, we'd go "to the big city" of Evansville for fun..because Vincennes closes at high noon monday-sunday. Some weekends we 'mix it up' and to Terrible Haute, city of 4 million stop lights.

Also, drivers don't respect the posted speed limits in Evansville. A lot of people love driving 15 mph over the speed limit. I've lived here for about a year and I've only ever seen someone get pulled over once or twice for speeding. What's the point of having speed limits if they're not obeyed or even enforced?

Crap passive aggressive people, crap injury prone jobs. Junkies everywhere. No one knows how to drive around here anymore. Just dense hicks that give off bad vibes all around. And why it’s so damn expensive down there? Centerpoint bills, sewage bills, apartments on the far southside that go for $1000 and up? And most of these were spiking well before Covid. Jesus, get a grip. Evansville ain’t shit and hasn’t had a thing going for it for well over 40 years now. I’m moving out of this dump for good in 2025.

As someone who has lived here for nearly 60 years I can attest to what you are saying as far as the bugs and the heat yes, it's bad you get used to it as for traffic I suppose you could always live someplace where the roads are less congested, such as, oh I don't know, Los Angeles? They have good traffic flow, right? Evansville has always had a lot of watering holes and that includes places for the LGBTQ folks to get their freak on as well we ain't as backwards as people would like to believe what we don't have is daily riots, buildings being burned to the ground every other week, rampant crime and violence yes we have crime and violence but not constantly when I was a kid, Haynies corner was nothing but hookers and addicts They have done a nice job of cleaning it up Back then you could swim in the Ohio to cool off, and we did We fished in it too Today I wouldn't go near it One thing you forgot to mention is that there are parts of the city where the centuries old sewer pipes have finally given out and much of those areas now smell like crap..literally Isolation? Have you looked at the Lloyd between Evansville and Newburgh lately? Non stop construction Soon Evansville will just swallow Newburgh up like they've been trying to do ever since I was a kid We used to have corn fields as far as the eye could see Now there are for sale and coming soon signs and nary a corn stalk in sight Yes, we're laid back Since when did that become a bad thing?

This is an entirely unrealistic "reasons not to move to Evansville"... As someone that grew up in Evansville, moved away, and came back, there are some reasons to/not to move here. Pros: Affordable, friendly, big city with that small-town feel. Central to so many places (1-3hr drive). Cons: Crime has slowly been on the rise. Jobs pay substantially below the national average. Limited industry. Not a lot for kids/teens.

Born in Evansville, Indiana 1990 Saint Mary's hospital. Had a awesome childhood growing up there. Went to Culver Elementary, Glennwood Middle School, Bosse High School and Harrison High School. Then moved to Seattle, WA in 2009 and enrolled into a High School there. I do miss Evansville except for the low minimum wage. Used to make $4 an hour as a teenager while at Harrison High School.

I moved here in April 2023 and i love it here❤😊

Evansville at one time had a strong proud heritage of racial segregation and division. A strong hold if the kkk in the past,but i think all of the cross burners and sheet wearers finaly died off with the changeing of the times.

The elderly walk in groups of 30 or more people at a time downtown. Whats dies that tell you about the safety of citizens.

I moved to E'ville in 1973 - I find it affordable and safe. If I want to go to a larger metropolitan area - it's a 2-3 hour drive, not bad. Our house in another city would be about double. I can find about anything I want here. There are two good colleges here, I graduated from USI.

This sounds amazing! What happens if we are married and applying? Is the annual income requirement 50k per family or for 50k for each of us (100k?)

The only thing i liked is the kitchen and still need paint.

There is not much here in evansville indiana. Just a few wall marts ,lowes,and home depot. The freeway system is constantly worked on year round and it is terribly inefficient . The down town area is tight and restricted in adequate parking for businesses and public patrons just ridiculous. Ask any 18 wheel driver from coast to coast and they will tell you to avoid evansville indiana,better known as stop light city,and that's a fact,you will see. The crime task force is not large enough to handle the criminal load and there are shootings at least two times a month or more,and dead bodies turn up on a consistent basis through the year. There is alot of meth abuse and trafficking due to local cyndicated distribution. I only go into town to Wal-Mart or Sam's. I like the exstream west end of evansville,its like pleasant country side with scattered small german townships and communities. They spent all of their there money on ww2 monuments to planes and navy vessels. I mean that is fine but so many aspects of the essentials of effective and efficient roads have taken a last place priority ad compared to city riverfront and beautification projects,and there is no parking. Personally i would not want to be in evansville if there was a major emergency evacuation effort. I think it would be a major failure. It is the states southern most city and a gate way to the south.
