Ard Schenk speaks Norwegian very well in this video, and Bart Veldkamp speaks Norwegian when he receives the medal. The Dutch are very linguistically gifted, it seems.
No, Norwegian is simply very similar to Dutch. I am Dutch I was always able to just read Danish, Swedish and Norwegian without a single lesson. First it takes some effort, because same words are written a bit different and a few are completely off. But within minutes I'd say they become clear. Spoken it is more difficult. Still this year without any Norwegian lesson and without ever having been to Norway I met Norwegian from Stavanger. I suggested he spoke Norwegian and I would try to reply in Norwegian and it went just fine. We had zero miscommunications. A Danish woman asked us where we cam from. It was not Germany since she said she could not understand German but she understood us. And she as correct. I know two Norwegian who when on holidays here simply talk Norwegian to Dutch. I was never there but they told me it went fine mostly. And finally a funny anecdote from Norwegian students who were mocking people on a bus in The Netherlands. Some people grew more and more angry with what they were saying and one went to them and said: "be carefull of what you are saying because we DO understand you!". They went completely silent and felt embarrassed for the rest of the trip....
BTW 2 I understand most of the commentary here too. During the race for exempel the reporter is already sure that Koss is going to win gold and he is also already talking about Kjell getting silver. Karlstad reminds him that there are some other skaters that might be a problem there. Etc. It is all pretty simple. And a very good OL for Ritsma with silver...the commentator forgets Ritsma was by far the best in that season until these games, whereas Koss was a wreck just three weeks prior. So Ritsma content with silver...no.
The most memorable moment of all gold Olympic games...so many painful moments in many years..and then.. finally GOLD 🏅 for Dan !! I was cheering, crying and so happy for him.. It's 2022 and i stil get emotional. God bless Dan !! Best regards from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

Two minor slips and a big slip and still broke the world record and in the event that wasn’t his best. On this day, it was.
