A tour up and down Wheathampstead high street in Hertfordshire showing old and new views. The old photographs have been contributed by residents and organisations in the village as part of the High Street Project. The age of the photographs range from the mid 1880s to the 1930s.
FG Wootton is now a restaurant, previously an Antique shop. A little further right is a mens barbers, which has been there for a least 70 years
Thanks, very well done.
No greater tragedy could be imagined than the obliteration of those priceless liveable environs of old.
At 4:00 minutes, the shop with the yellow painted window frame near the fence, was once a toy shop. I must have been about 6 when I went in with my mother, and saw a beautiful doll in that shop which I desperately wanted but knew it was far to expensive. At 5:46 minutes, the post office used to be Timberland, kitchens /bathrooms and diy store in the late 70's. I worked there part time for about a year. Before that I worked in Murphy Chemicals factory which was directly across the road.
Looked nicer back in the day. Too urban these days
Great to get a broader and deeper insight into Wheathampstead, where my friend Jamie lives.
