Yep, definitely makes the fuzz sound more like a Tubescreamer. More impressive is the placement of the Tuner. You have it all worked out!
Sweet thing as well when boosting a high gain amp. Instead of just a boost, throw in a fuzz with relaxed settings and it will do magic to your tone.
I just tried this with a tube screamer mini into a Mxr 108 classic fuzz into a nobels ODR, really a great way to stack!
Basically all sounded clean to my ears!
Need those mids.
You want the fuzz going into overdrive, not od into fuzz like you have it. Better yet, ditch the overdrive pedals and use your amplifiers own overdrive. It will sound better.
I think the reason this combination isn't talked about very often, is that it won't sound this good with most fuzz faces. The Band of Gypsys Fuzz has quite a different circuit than your typical fuzz face, and it has an entirely different input stage, which probably makes it play much nicer with the pedals that you put before it. Most pedals in front of your typical fuzz face will make it sound kind of awful, which is a common problem with fuzz faces (with a lot of fuzz pedals actually). So that's why it's often recommended to put your fuzz pedals to the front of the chain
Ts is an od ,so your stacking them, one or the other may have subtle differences but they are designed to push the amp into od
Bro wtf, the fuzz face fuzz control needs to be dimed, I think more people need to realize that the fuzz face is a FUZZ its supposed to be dimed after being boosted still
I really hope the tone knowledge got better since this was posted
Man ,I do the same thing ,but I use a sd1 boss gain down volume up ,It works good with a big muff too,Itstheonly way to use those fuzz pedals,on the big muff I dont go past 10 oclock on sustain knob Its a gorgious sound ,even better with a m x r phase in front of the sd1
🍀 Promo'SM
I feel it...Great arrangement ..Lot's of fun and ways to work with this i like it alot ...Thanks
Thanks for your feedback, it's really appreciated and I hope it inspires you to write something great too!
Great track, easy to play over and practice.
Great backing track, easy to understand and play over.
Thanks so much
Great track, thanks for putting it together!!
Great practice track, catchy but not over bearing. Thanks for the awesome song.
Hi! Are you concerned at all about the buffer from the TS interfering with the Fuzz pedal? It is my understanding that buffers and fuzz pedals don’t work well together.
It wasn't an issue, so long as you have a noise gate it seems to cut out on any fuzz from the 60 cycle hum. Also, I just like tinkering around so it might work with my setup but not for all
I'm sure it's be said before in this comment section but this is the Band of Gypsys "Fuzz Face" which is NOT a Fuzz Face internally. It is the driver circuit for an Octavia and thus doesn't behave or interact like a traditional Fuzz Face. Imo the best way to use the BOG to get those Hendrix at Woodstock and BOG tones is to run into amp already breaking up/distorting, then run the "Fuzz" setting around Noon to 3 o'clock and push the amp with the pedal's volume knob. I didn't really think the BOG Fuzz Face sounded accurate to Jimi's but realized I was trying to use it like a traditional Fuzz Face. Watch the BOG footage and you'll see Jimi switch it on and off throughout songs instead of riding the volume like he did with Germanium Fuzz Faces. It's a different animal than a silicon or germanium Fuzz Face.
Most informative video, Dude! Never mind what some rude comments say. I’ve had TS9 and I don’t own distortion pedals. My Fuzz Face BOG’s just arrived today and I haven’t had a chance to add on my pedalboard. You’ve certainly answered all my questions with this clear and concise video. And, yes, I’m putting the TS9 feeding my fuzz face. Trust your own instincts. You should do what sounds good to you. Keep up the great videos. Peace & Love. Greer from Georgia.
It has been said that the Fuzz Face sounds best with nothing before it but the guitar. It needs to interact with the impedance of the pickups (especially if you want to clean it up with the volume control on your guitar).
People say that, but jimi hendrix always ran the wah FIRST. ALWAYS. People say a lot of things, doesn't mean it's true.
Just because Jimi Hendrix did it doesn't mean it's the correct way to do it. Stevie Ray Vaughan did it the other way just like I said and he was much better than Jimi Hendrix and most of the guitar world says that's the right way to do it. You need the fuzz pedal connected directly to the impedance of your pickups to operate to the optimal level and to give you that volume clean up that everyone loves. of course you can do it the opposite way it's a subjective opinion but don't think everything's perfect because Jimi Hendrix did it! Stevie Ray Vaughan was much better than Hendrix. Next level 💯 👌
Fuzz straight into guitar. Crank settings pretty high. into ts9, or any drive, and use it as a small signal boost. Just barely.
My Vox wha acts as a good buffer before the Fuzz. Then my compressors into Boss 7 band graphic eq next is my very old TS808 into various other od's and distortion then MXR Micro Amp into the Big Muff then the spice rack of chorus, flange or whatever else takes your fancy then my Carbon Copy and finally Reverb. Been putting my MXR Univibe towards the start of the chain and I'm pretty happy with the tone. Into a 1974 Fender Super Reverb. Lovely ✌️ @@rebeccabailey527
I use my OCD clone after my Fuzz Face. Works very well!
it's funny, my first two 'drive' pedals were a bad monkey and a silicon fuzz face... I thought they sounded good but I still sold them and tried dozens of other dirt pedals. what did I eventually come back to? a tube screamer and a fuzz face.
works great with a big muff + boss super overdrive as well
I do a SD1 into a big muff. Such a good sound.
Gotta max out the fuzz!
One wrap over the top and the rest below, or all wraps below?
I usually do all wraps below
Andy - can I come to your place and try YOUR Dunlop mini FF? Why? Cos I went to a store today to try one AND try the fully CCW (counter clock wise) setting on the fuzz and it was terrible. Fully CCW it sounded like it was fully CW - . . . . twice around the clock! A heap of souless muddy crap!! Disappointing to say the least! (And yes I am quite comfortable with my playing ability and my ear) But truly - it'd be great to see or at least get more info on everything you did for this cool little demo. What guitar? What amp? Amp settings? What was between the output of your guitar and the input of the amp etc etc - How about for grounding, constantly comparing the affected signal to the "dry" signal? Or maybe it's true that two germanium transistors can sound worlds apart and that perhaps I need to try a heap of them. Does it really have to be this hard . . !!??
Sounds like there was a buffer between the pickups on your guitar and the fuzz pedal. Wireless connections count as a buffer. That means the fuzz circuit is seeing a very low impedance instead of the roughly 10k impedance of the guitar pickups.
Wow! at last! A fuzz demo where the demoer is not afraid to start with the gain 100% wound ACW (anti clock wise) Unlike 99.9% of all other fuzz demoers!! Listen to Hendrix Band of Gypsies (Gypsys?) Live at The Fillmore East and tell me Andy isn't on the right track to achieving that sound. Arguably still the greatest use of fuzz to this day! I personally find the Tube Screamer typically too notchy. Brutally cuts off top & bottom end but the whole idea of using it to volume boost only is definitely the way to go, with whatever pedal.
You should run the fuzz with volume and fuzz all the way up
👎
idk why everyone is complaining in the comments. Nice demo, good sound
try putting the fuzz in the effects chain first. Then mix them again and let me know... Obviously you have to start from a great basic sound, not like the one you have in this video! fuzzes are designed for tubes that work at a certain volume, otherwise you'll never get the desired effect.
John Squire from Stone Roses had that exact setup too
I was surprised how fuzz pedals open with a booster, and I was like, wait, there is tubescreamer! This is exactly what I was thinking it would sound, thank you
Good combo on pedals!!!
Get the super badass variac fuzz. It’s same circuit as BOG. But with tweakable improvements.
Very cool. My fuzz face is on the way and my tube screamer is waiting so I'm looking forward to combining them.
What about the blue one that is supposed to be like the one modified for Hendrix? And do you know if Leigh Stephens of Blue Cheer used one?
I have tried the blue fuzz face but I don't own that one. I'm not sure if the guitarist from blue cheer used one either. It's the one I have is The one Jimi Hendrix used with the band of Gypsies, I love it.
I get the ideal, but your univibe will sound much better 1st in chain,
the tube screamer literally will tighten any amp or distortion pedal its incredible.
Yes! People hating on tube screamers are wrong, fantastic OD!!
@@mikaelstensvold3199 it's the first overdrive I heard in video that doesn't make me feel like it's an imitation effect. I for the longest didn't understand why I didn't like overdrives. I love the tube screamer
Just ordered this can't wait for it to arrive !!
Weezer rocks !!
Great sounds you make !! Cheers
Thanks I always stack and boost pedals. Reversing the usual order too works well,eg- Tube screamer into a overdrive. I usually boost the TS with overdrive but they sound amazing swapped
The fuzz needs to see the pickups of the guitar. Put it first in the chain before even the tuner. Buffers and fuzz don’t always play well together. Your setup looks like a stacked clean boost as long as you enjoy the sound it’s making that the most important thing. The sound you’re hearing in the room doesn’t seem to come across on RUclips.
Eric johnson used a tubescreamer first into fuzz
bla bla
Personally I'd use the fuzz with more gain and roll back the volume on the guitar to clean up the sound. I wouldn't use the tube skreamer in this scenario but if I did it would have next to no gain dialed and just used for a subtle boost.
I gave a like. Experimentation is very important. You are granted free will to use your pedals however they sound pleasing to you.
are you using a master volume pedal in the fx loop ?
