Inspiration to Get Better Synths for Your Songs - Pro Producer Session
For the synth nerds or anyone wanting some synthy content… here’s me waffling on about the synths and bits on my new latest remix banger. Showing off yes, but also hoping to inspire and share ideas. It can be hard and mysterious finding, creating and combining synth sounds so they support & enhance the mood of the song. Here I used era specific sounds & focused on space, contrast, mysterious & tense melodic elements and syncopation between 16th & 8th notes and the vocal & bass line grooves. #musicproduction #musicproducer #productiontips

Zero plugins were used in the production of this track. Just my Teenage Engineering OP1, Korg Minilogue, Fender Mustang and Korg Volca Sample for instrumentation and my 'vintage' hardware - Alesis Micro Limiter and Yamaha REX-50 for outboard compression / limiting and spacial effects. I'm producing a whole track without using any plugins. No EQ, no compression, no nothing. Selecting the right sounds, arranging them well and using my old, weird Yamaha REX-50 vintage digital effects unit from the 80s for some effects. Bit of a weird set. Not much coherence, structure or pacing but a few great tunes when she let them breathe.
Totally agree. She has some amazing music and the latter section had some brilliant moments but the set was too restless and erratic and that seemed to prevent any real atmosphere or connection with the audience. I love experimental stuff but when it goes to dance-music territory, it's wise to play to the dance-floor, even just a bit. The curse of having all the knobs in front of you - you're compelled to twiddle them!

As an accomplished keyboard player, I’d really hope you’d be utilizing inversions to maximize the stepwise motion in the bass, but what do I know
If you also want to be an accomplished keyboardist, you must interfere with the other instruments as much as possible.

Cool trick, I’ll have to try. But, I just wanted to point out that the original nor delayed rhythms are triplets. Not trying to be rude.

what is it called when every quarter note beat has three notes in it? In a shuffle rhythm. 123,223,323,423. The delay is set to do three repeats every two quarter notes. I thought it produced triplets. But yes, it's a fun technique I've used a lot over the years.
