First of all, the V band flanges were machined straight. Then you welded on them. That unfortunately is the down fall. We at GBE Mandrel Bending in Clackamas Oregon fell for these failing flanges as well. We bought roughly 20 of these and promoted them not knowing that they are really worthless. Here is a small video of my 355 Small Block Racing motor I built. Has a wild solid lifter racing cam custom ground by Oregon Cam Grinders. I wanted an old school look, so I installed the tunnel ran and dual quads.

This is a perfect reason why we got away with the V band flanges. They are perfectly machined, then when you weld on them, they warp causing a major leak. The copper colored stuff on the flanges is the copper anti sieze to help rotate the flanges, otherwise the rust on them prevents me from being able to turn them.
