I can only go by what the retired detective said from who I bought it from. You are basically correct. The NYPD purchased the Diplomats. How this ended up as an undercover is a mystery And will remain a mystery. For what I paid for it, for all the joy and happiness it brings to kids especially at car shows and car meets? To me, it's not worth the research. If I ever become incapacitated and need to generate cash, I'll just advise the next owner to do his own research. For now, there is no price on this Fury.

@@styldsteel1 I love how the car is preserved and still loved! I didn’t want to come off in any type of way. I have my fleet of vintage police cars and have done significant research into NYPD vehicles during the blue and white era. Aside from the year this car has a few other things that make me say it’s not a department auto. Your car has sentina push bars. The NYPD used locally sourced bumperettes from a taxi meter shop called KGT, highway cars got locally made pushbars that were made from loading dock bumpers. spotlights were only used on highway cars. I wish you many more happy years with this car!

@@muckle8 thank Goodness for small miracles! No smog. I can see where the equipment was removed, hoses capped, and so on. A side, minor note, after 25 years in NY, cars are only required for a safety annual inspection. Lights, signals, all that kind of stuff, no tailpipe sniffers. All 3 of my M bodies have this same drivetrain. Let me tell you. Like you say, it's god-damned bullet proof.i enjoy them thoroughly.!!

Well, I'm happy to see someone's still producing autos with colors! Relief there for sure. Yes, this here is Coppertone mist/Black. Love the matching interior. This is still deep in the days where there were no government mandates to be found. The engineers were giving the freedom to "fire at will" That's how these products came to be. @@styldsteel1 that's a positive for sure, but not only after they sell it as 'exclusive design' for a whole lot of money extra. Back then two-tone came with the full price, from what I'm aware of. Coppertone mist looks awesome, tried to find similar car cosmetics but all I ended up with was sun tanning screen lol! Definitely will keep that in mind for future projects. No problem, I'm glad to discuss the passion among enthusiasts! Even though I have no classic myself, beside a 'youngtimer' (1998 Nissan Sunny Wagon; Y10 - which was the 'Sunny Traveller' in the American market)

So so true. And back in those days, say, the 1980s and earlier, I didn't mind silver so much. Because the design engineers knew how to mix colors. Look, silver is not a color by any stretch. But the cars had door mouldings and pinstripe to match the interiors. You'd have for example a silver car with a red or blue interior, matching pinstripe, and outside mouldings. So attractive. Now? Eternally boring. Silver with black interiors. No imagination whatsoever. Thanks for watching! Did you see my White 5th avenue? The interior is the richest, deepest cobalt blue velour.

@styldsteel1 I get what you're saying, today 'silver' (or graphite, grey etc) makes the car looks like the manufacturer forgot to add a coating to the primer. Boring and tedious, unlike the vibrant coloring back then. Besides that will chrome (pinstripe) top off the class itself, just what you were referring to. Chrome grille as well. I'll definitely look into the Fifth Avenue on your channel, you've got quite a collection and from what I can tell (and most of all SEE) they're in good hands! Keep up the preservation work! 👍 Don't let EVs kill the classics

@@DutchFunkenstein your a good man. I really appreciate that. And I do try like heck to preserve each and every one of them. I think I'm succeeding. I believe EVs won't be successful. FoMoCo has a shit ton of F150 Lightenings they can't unload. I feel hybrids might take this cake. The classics are in my blood. My dailys are a 15, and a 17 MKZ. In my garage rests a 1949 Hudson Commodore, and a 1975 Checker Marathon. That's where my soul lays.

I noticed that as well. The only reason Tesla for example is succesful is only because of the innovation it brings (such as autonomous driving), not just the EV part. @@DutchFunkenstein you're welcome! And thank you again! CMD (checker motor division ) had been making cars since 1922, but the one we all know and love are the A 12s. The A 12s started in like 1958, and kept that body for 30 years. They didn't have the money to retool. But, yea, Checker motors were pretty hip to their game!!!! They built wagons, Ambulances, and something called the Aero-Bus. But yea, the civilian checker was the A -11. Wanna laugh! It was available in 92 (ninety two) colors. Lolol!! Chrome was available.(Yellow was referred to as chrome)

@@markgiro8100 i think your points are very important. These cars albeit the Crown Vics, and the M bodies will forever hold a place in people's hearts. Also be it taxi use or FBI use, and police use, they are tangible pieces of history. For certain.

Definitely they are very hard to acquire. Not because they aren't reliable, but most have been just used up and tossed. Not that there's anything wrong with this per se'. But it's still rather sad.

@@GalaxieMarauder funny you should mention the station wagon. They are starting to gain traction with car enthusiasts. Namely the Vista Cruiser. Oldsmobile I think. It's even got my attention to be honest. It looks very cool with the glass forward facing windows on the roof. But it has to be in brown if course 😔🤔

@@styldsteel1 yep I filmed two Oldsmobile wagons last month. The Vista Cruiser roof was only available on the Oldsmobile and the Buick Sportwagon in the late 60-early 70s. The final featuring was on the Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser from 1992-1994.

Keeping an old car is fine if you have access to parts and a junk yard where you can get spares. Also the car is a beater or a secondary car. I would never keep an older car as daily driver as its character would piss me off in the morning

@@austinburgess9779 I think consolidation is a great thing. The single unit entertainment center will run on. Average $700. But any device that's "connected" others have control of your vehicle took. To me, this is disconcerning.

Thank you! I should have mentioned the wheel skirts are in the trunk, and actually are in fact stock. I believe after the restoration, they weren't put back because they are cumbersome and unwieldy, still a gentle teardrop shape. And the baby moons? It's just a hubcap 😉. I'll make a deal, I'll put them on, if I get negative opinions, off they come.

Yes, their history is very very rich. I understand that even after the company stopped cars, I understand they built airplane engines. So they have a most incredible legacy. I'm really honored to preserve a small part of the Studebaker Brother's memories.

Thank you for your input! I cannot say for certain what has been added or taken away in its 37 years. Perhaps the detective, when he retired and took the old girl to Florida added it then. From another perspective, whether you are right or wrong, the car is fun as all get out, the kids just adore it at car shows, older retired cops, share their stories when they were in the beat. It's funny you mentioned it's an unusual style. That's what attracted me to the styling in the first place. I said to my wife, if she thinks this car was designed by a committee🤣🤣. I really do appreciate the advice on the rust issues. Oddly enough, only one frame rail is somewhat compromised, but still solid thankfully. But now it's stored in a climate controlled garage, so whatever process is taking place if it stopped, at least slowed. But Im still going to look into these products you recommend. Well, I know we all have to make choices based on whats going on in our lives at the time. I'm happy it brought back memories for you. I admittedly had too lookup keystone classics. What a sharp wheel! On the Granadas with the sports package, it came with the magnum 500s. So it's very similar. Really sharp! ThBks for sharing and watching!

79 sure! Different header panel and sleaker taillights. Mostly unchanged from mine. Yes I feel Ford did a great job with what was an intermediate size car. Lots of Rubber bushings, sound insulation. And with the Lincoln Versailles, even way,way more rubber and thicker seats were added. It really was like sitting in a cocoon

Oh yes, sure, the President had the most body side adornments. This here is the Mid level, Champion. It's really good to know, Studebaker has a large following. Interestingly enough, Studebaker has an extremely colorful and extensively long history. Even though they ceased automotive production, pivoted to building army tanks. I read some where that the designers of the 1993 Dodge Ram that the Studebaker E series pick up was the main inspiration for their design. This is extraordinary.

Yep! 75, 76, and 77. No real appearance change for 1st generation Granada. My first Granada was a '77 4 Door, deep blue, blue vinyl interior. 302 car. . Oh God! Yes, very early Solid State technology. I kept one in my trunk too. Hell, I think we all did. In fact, this one here, the engine actually just stopped on the freeway. I freaked out at first but then I realized! Oh yea. Electronic ignition module They'd overheat. That was the problem. Pouring cold water over it would get you going temporarily. Since this car here is a California car, I learned that it needed a different module, and you can't just plug any old module in. The plugs are oddly shaped. So yes, there is a special California ignition. Lol. But she runs just fine now

@@styldsteel1 I owned a couple and they were all California cars. I didn't know the modules were California specific. I can honestly say my 302 never overheated. I did have an engine fire once because Ford mounted the coil on it's side. I guess it failed and leaked. I ended up needing to do a bit of rewiring and a new set of plug wires. Parts were cheap and easy to get in the late 90s early 2000s.

That's awesome! Without being or sounding funny, your brother was one of the 2 million owners of the Granada. My original one was a deep blue, blue interior, 4 door, but just a base model. But man, there was just something about the styling. 2 and 4 doors, boxy, sure, but no one minded, it was Handsome I know that color combo well!! I also liked the silver with blue interiors, that lacy aluminum rim I do believe came with all of the upscale Ghia optioned Granada's, and Monarchs as well! Thanks for sharing those memories! That's what this Hobby is all about!

And the 8 track cassettes sound great thanks to the wider tapes as compared to the cassette tapes. But, no matter, it's all analog. Much warmer sounds. Yes. You definitely nailed it. It's definitely all decked and prepped out for it's California home. It's got all the smog goodies and boy does this car wear them "proud" (jeez). Funny thing, the owner opted for the upscale Ghia option, has 4 engine choices, 200, 260, 302, and a 351. I sure for just a few measly hundred bucks more, splurge? Go for the 351? But, even if I do remove the cats, or hollow them out, remove the smog, it'll gain just a few more horses. Not much. But the old girl is driven maybe 800 miles a year, it's only my wife and myself, drive in movies, ice cream car shows perhaps, she's happy at about 65 to 70, and people go ape shit at car shows for it. 😆 Thanks for watching!
